Shelbyjune answered Sunday January 23 2005, 3:05 pm: Medicine and science has now discovered that cardio exercise, whether it be on fancy equipment or something simple like walking (work up to the speed of 4 miles an hour), should be 45-60 minutes 4-5 times a week.
20-40 minutes 3 times a week just isn't enough. It doesn't give your body enough time to pump your blood through your system, thereby helping it to increase your metabolism rate and ultimately lower your blood pressure AND stress rate. And don't forget your 6-8 glass of ice water a day (some advice is warm water, I've read ice water because it makes your blood pump faster to keep your body warm). Hope I helped. AKSherma answered Sunday January 23 2005, 1:08 pm: The best answer for this is 3 times a week for at least a half hour, making sure your heart rate is about 125% of your resting rate. Depending on your fitness goal- say fat burning, you'd want to up that for about 45 minutes (the body doesn't start burning fat until your store of glycogen is used up which can be up to a half hour then it converts into burning fat). And make sure to drink a lot of water before, during and after. [ AKSherma's advice column | Ask AKSherma A Question ]
