Shoes are often good for the horses! My friend's mare got corrective shoeing and she goes so much better now! And she's happier, which is always top priority. The vet knows whats best for your horse often times so trust him. No, shoes are not permenant. My pony has had his shoes put on and taken off more times than I can count and all because our vet, farrier, and trainer said we should. Also, remember the 6 weeks farrier visit rule!

Don't be worried, it's just like giving an athlete special shoes after an injury. It will benefit your horse! Your vet knows best. Every horse has a problem once in a while (they are not strong animals really because there are so many things that can go wrong-that's just the way they are). And I'm pretty sure that shoes are not permanent. They are constantly taken on and off. If you are unsure about all this, ask your vet.

Well, shoes are a good idea if you go on any hard ground with your horse, which you probably do. Don't worry shoes aren't that big of a deal! Your horse will probably be more comfortable with them on, infact

Your horse doesn't have to have them forever.
Or if your horse was (for example) injured in a front hoof, you might only need shoes for the front hooves. That's what most of the horses at my stable has (except 2 of them- mine and another girl's horse). Well, I wish the best of luck to you and your horse.

Why are you freaking out? If your horse goes on ANY kind of road, be it gravel or highway, he *has* to have shoes to protect his hooves. + your horse WON'T have to have shoes forever, only as long as he travels on roads((or hard surfaces)).

Once a horse has worn shoes it doesn't always have to wear them.

They can help heal the hoof quicker if there is something wrong with it or it is weak.

Here in the UK we sell stuff by a company called Effol.

I use these products on my pony and her hooves are fine now (they used to be a little crumbly and prone to splitting)

You can get Hoof Lotion, Hoof Oil, Hoof Tar and Hoof Ointment.

In the short term maybe it is best you have her shoed but in the long term try using some of these products to get your horse back on her feet!! (Scuse the pun!!)

Take care!!

Mel

ok my neighbor has two horses and they have shoes in the summer but not in the winter (since we ride indoors) dont worry... both of them have very healthy feet... your horse wont have them forever if it has them for now... it might be a good idea but its not terrible... shoes are not permanent... the farrier comes about every 6 weeks(you might wanna check on that i might be wrong) to put on new shoes or take em off or whatever... dont worryy and shoes are good for horses! it makes their lives a lot easier... the reason for shoes is that they are hauling people around all the time so they just need some extra support... hope i helped!

Well, I don't know much about horses, but you could always go to google.com and type in "HOrse Hooves" It might have some info. Try some topics close to that!
Hope I helped!
