Question Posted Tuesday December 28 2004, 5:20 pm

On new year's eve, I have to go to my grandparents for 3 days. I really don't want to go because they live a long way away from us and all my friends. The only way I will be able to keep in touch with my friends is through text message because they don't let me use their phone and I can't afford to call on mine. They don't even have a computer so their's no msn either. I know it's only three days but I am going to be so bored, what can I do to stay in touch with my friends apart from texting? There isn't any point writing letters because it's only three days.

Right you said it your self. THereisn't any point in writing letters. So don't. Take a littel break from your friends and focus on seeing your grandparents. You don't get to see them much so, start a conversation or bring a boardgaame to play with them.-~laura~

you may not have to go ask if you can skip it if not its only three days you will live.

Ask your grandparents if theres a library near by so you can chat with your friends. Texting is the best to do for the trip up there but maybe you can get to know some cool ppl around your grandparnts house and if they want to invite you over im sure they will have a computer and just ask to use theres. Hope it helped. <3 American Girl

When I went on a trip for a few days my mom gave me a calling card. You can use one of those. Also when my computer is down I go to the library. Ask your grandparents if there is one near their house so you can use the computer. Another option is to bring a lot of quarters and use a pay phone to call your friends. That's pretty much all the choices you have left. I hope they work. =)

Anyways, so you want to not be bored but still keep in touch with ur friends? well, if i was you i would meet some people your age that live by your grandparents! and hang out with them, that way your not bored, and then maybe they'd invite you over to their house and i'm sure they'd have a computer! so you'd be able to get on theirs to talk to your friends. i mean c'mon sounds pretty good right? new friends AND being able to talk to the ones back home? hope i helped. besta luck. have a GREAT new years. ask me nething if u need too. toodles Love <3 brittany xoox

If text messaging them is the only way you can reach them, then I guess you answered your own questions. Why not bring things to occupy yourself? Like old year books, or scrap books. Or maybe you do something cool for your friends like make them a cool little new years gift. Like you stated, it is only three days. I'm sure you can manage. Grandparents arn't that bad; you could make cookies! My grandparents always give me money, so theres a plus! Sorry if I didn't help.
Good luck.

Text messaging is a good idea. Maybe you can get your parents to take you to a libary near by there place. Cause Libaries always have computers so you could get on MSN. Maybe you will meet some kids there anyways and find a new friend

The way that I see it is you have 2 options. One, go to a local library and use their computers to communicate with your friends via MSN. Two, ask if you can stay home. If neither of those options work, explain your situation to your grandparents and tell them that you would appreciate their letting you use their phone to communicate with your friends. Im sure that they can remember what it was like for them when they were your age if they are reminded by you. Best Wishes!
