tryouts

Question Posted Friday December 10 2004, 2:41 pm

hey!! i have a chance to try out for my high school musical (i'm in 8th). It requires singing and dancing, so i definitely have a chance with the dancing part. but with the singing, i'm not bad but there are a couple of better people. does any one have any tips on what i can do... like projection, that sort of thing. thanks!

I was in choir and in theatre arts this year (goin to 9th) so i learned a lil about projection. When your singing you always need to take a good deep breath before you sing. The more air you have in your diaphram the more control you have of it which also means that'll help with your projection!Just do the best you can! and good luck!!

hey hunny! ..the key to bringing out the best in your voice is breath control. BREATHE FROM YOUR DIAPHRAM!!! this means when you breath in..your stomach should come out and when you exhale your stomach should come back in. Squeeze your stomach on the high notes and relax your throat. good luck!! x0x - teddi

Don't worry about it. When you sing make sure you smile and, that you sing loud. Don't worry about being to loud either, just go in there and sing your heart out! Even if you don't get a major role ask to do a chorus role or stage crew, that way it will show the director that you are really interested in this and then next year they may consider you for a bigger part.

For projection, focus on the back of the auditorium, and think about making sure the back wall (or the people in the very back) can hear you. Don't look down. And make sure you move around.

ok, it may sound weird, but practice talking with a pen held horizontally between your teeth, talk loud and try to make your words understandable. it helps with projection and annunciation

Just remember to sing from your throat and feel it come up over the roof of your mouth and dont make such a squeaky sound for high notes. For low notes remember to sing from the chest area. Remember to get good breaths. And remember to have fun with it!

Ask your musical teacher what songs are in it and if you find one that you like, sing a part from it! That will impress the judges or how ever is picking the people who are trying out! Also, I heard if you open your mouth more while you're singing, you'll sing louder? I don't know, I have never been in a musical before! Just practice and try your best when the try outs come! Hope I helped :) Good luck!

Well i used to be in chorus and the one thing i still have drilled in my brain from the teacher is to open your mouth when you sing, if your mouth is open then you will sing a little louder. Also talk to the music teacher at school and ask him or her for a voice lesson after school, most of the time they are more than willing. Like if your school has an extra period thats not mandantory that you stay go then. Hope i helped.

For projection you need to open your mouth wide enough so you can fit at least three fingers in you mouth. So you don't crack your voice each time before you sing you need to warm up. I hope I helped!
