I've been tring to use a Neutrogena deep pore cleanser when I take a shower to keep my skin looking good. When I put it on my face, it feels normal. After maybe 20-30 seconds it begins to burn to the point where I have to wash it off. I don't know if it's because I'm doing something wrong, or if that is supposed to happen because it's cleaning out my pores. Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanks alot!
caliexoxo13 answered Thursday December 2 2004, 8:51 pm: Okay why do you use it when you are in the shower because like I think the heat has something to do with it. I think maybe you should try it when you are at the sink and like rinse it with cold water. If it still burns try a different one, I also use neutrogena and it doesn't burn like that when I use it. I hope it turns out okay. By the way has it affected your face in any way? good luck with that. ~Calie~ [ caliexoxo13's advice column | Ask caliexoxo13 A Question ]
sUnsEt_rOO18 answered Wednesday December 1 2004, 5:55 pm: its supposed to happen. maybe your using too much because it shouldn't burn THAT bad that you have to take it off. if you leave it on it feels so clean though! try getting a new face wash like those commercials where the guy is like it doesnt hurt! like stridex or something like that. just go to walmart!! --rachael [ sUnsEt_rOO18's advice column | Ask sUnsEt_rOO18 A Question ]
dinoold answered Wednesday December 1 2004, 4:24 pm: have you been using it a lot?? Could be that your skin is sensitive. Wait a week then try it again..those things are for 1-2 times a week if you have skin that is not sensitive..ok...Or do not use it in the showere when your skin is more sensitive due to the heat. Try it later or in the am wiht cold water.
Switch to something else in the meantime. Sometimes too much rpoduct casues sensitivityI use all thier products...and i really like them [ dinoold's advice column | Ask dinoold A Question ]
XoCaLLiE answered Wednesday December 1 2004, 2:43 pm: hey*it happens to me sometimes too! if you have been treating and washing your face everyday, then chances are you skins gonna be dried out. and when you skin gets dried out it'll get irriated if you try to use like cleanser and other stuff like that. i'd try not using the cleanser for a week or so and then try again, if it still burns then you should probably call a number on the bottle and ask why. hOpe I HeLpEd*<3C<3 [ XoCaLLiE's advice column | Ask XoCaLLiE A Question ]

FernGully answered Wednesday December 1 2004, 12:08 am: It depends - try washing your face with it out of the shower, in front of a mirror (you dont need to do the whole face, just a little discrete section). When it starts to burn wash it off but don't rub the area, just rinse it with water.
Check if your face is blotchy and/or red where the face wash was used. If it is, then you most likely are having a reaction to it, which is fairly common. I myself can't use those cloth things that Biore makes because they burn my face and turn me into a little red faced lobster kid.
Even if you decide you don't have an allergy, I'd consider switching to a less harsh face wash, for your own sake, and the sake of how uncomfortable it is to wash with something that burns.
I use Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser because my face is as wussy as the rest of me. It works well but doesn't dry out your face or feel like you are chemically peeling off 6 layers of skin either. [ FernGully's advice column | Ask FernGully A Question ]

Notso answered Tuesday November 30 2004, 11:14 pm: you could be allergic to an ingredient in the cleanser. If your face is red and tight afterwards, that's a dead give away you are allergic to it. Alot of neutrogena products use salylic acid which could be causing you problems. Try a different type of cleanser without salylic acid or an entirely different brand.
