They can't do that!
You have the right to protest, you have the right to freedom of speech. You have the right to wear whatever clothes you want.
They are taking dress code way too far!
If you have to, go to the extremes.
Get people to sign petitions.
Hold "sit ins" and "walk outs". Get as many adults in your community involved as you can. Go to school every day dressed in full black, with extreme black eyeliner and eyeshadow and lipstick! IF they tell you not to, get a large group of friends to do it to.
Make picket signs and hold protests. Go to the mayor, go to the governor, go to court! Get your local news paper and/or tv news to put you on air... and maybe get a group of people to go streaking! Fight for your rights! And please... tell me your location... I'd love to help out any way I can. I happen to be a goth/punk and though I"m rebellious... they are breaking the law and violating your rights! [ MedicatedSanity's advice column | Ask MedicatedSanity A Question ]
ask_the_becsturr answered Sunday October 31 2004, 12:39 pm: if it has a cross then no they cant tell you not to wear it because it is a religious symbol. as for the ink black and white i dont think that they can do that either unless you go to a private school. what you need to do is go to the school board with this and talk to them reasonably about whats going on. find out why they want to out law the colors and find some way to prove to them that not just "punks or bad kids" wear those colors. also make teh point that if you arent allowed to wear it they they shouldent be either which menas no more black dress pants for teh teachers and also no more button down shirts. its not fair of them to set rules like that and not follow them. if you need more advice or wnat to tell me more about this to see what i can do to help feel free to i.m. me at Hollowskye. i'll do what i cna to hel you guys because whta they are doing is compleately unfair. PerkyPeacock answered Saturday October 30 2004, 6:35 pm: a jelly necklace isn't a jelly bracelet, so you could argue that point, and if they say that you still need to take it off, flat out tell them that you're obviously wearing the cross for religious purposes, not because you want someone to snap it and have sex with them.
they shouldn't be able to dictate which color of clothing you're allowed to wear, so tell them that by wearing pink/black/white it's a statement of your individuality and what not. if they still tell you it's wrong, call your parents on it...
or better yet and attorney.
to ban half the colors everyone owns is ridiculous, and i'm sure an lawyer in town would take the case
Hannah answered Saturday October 30 2004, 6:01 pm: Hey girl,
Well that really sucks. Well, if your school is public, then they have no right to just tell you that you can't wear those items. You do have rights and if you serious mean business, take it to court. Good Luck*

xplisit15 answered Saturday October 30 2004, 4:56 pm: I think its great you guys are protesting! At my school we cant wear jelly braclets because of that whole "u wear them u must be having sex" crap. This is total bullcrap about the not being able to wear certain colored shirts, my school is pretty conservative and we have a modest clothing policy. No shirts that show any part of a girls chest and so on. But i think you should have all students break every rule regarding clothing and jewlery! I think you and a whole bunch of ur friends should skip a couple classes and go sit in the cafeteria and do the protest. or go right to the office and raise hell. How do they expect you to dress now? Tell them you buy what the factories make and what the stores sell. How can white black or pink be slutty when those are the in colors?

Sherry answered Saturday October 30 2004, 3:07 pm: Yah you could be like "I'm christian (or cathloic) so I can wear it if I want" once you say that they have to let you wear it. But good idea with the black thing, and whoever has jelly bracelts let them wear that too..good luck with this thing! [ Sherry's advice column | Ask Sherry A Question ]
