Why Does Drinking Help?

Question Posted Saturday October 23 2004, 9:20 pm

I have a pretty hard life, it's not easy in this town. I always have alot on my mind, but since last year I've been counting on beer to clear my mind...I wanted to know why a little alcohol makes me think about nothing...even when I'm not drunk?

ok...this is something..been there done that.

my mother is an alcoholic..hated it unitl I went to college..then found out that not only was a lot more fun when i was drunk..I was NUMB to my problems.

But here is the deal..alochol is a depressant and the next day..the feelings are even worse.

So to me..after wasting what 9 years of my life...so much money that i could have had a house on the beach...

I would suggest..put down the beer..and ask yourself..what am i trying to forget.

what is making me so unahppy.

Why must I self medicate myself with this stuff..

I know how you feel about where you live..I hate where I do..but the beer will not make it go away..in fact after the buzz is gone...it is still thee.

so again I ask you..waht are you escaping ..from?

Alcohol, as with ANY other drug, alters your state of being, mind, conciousness, or whatever you want to call it. It's an escape. Drugs lower your inhibitions, they can release endorphins and seratonin, they can relax your body and all kinds of other things that take away they pain of everyday life. And, as long as there is pain, there will be drugs.
But, I digress. Alcohol allows you to relax, and get your mind off of things. And this in-and-of-itself isn't a bad thing. As long as you're responsible with it. Another one of my favorite sayings: 'Everything in moderation'. So, as long as you're doing it a safe and healthy ammount, it's my belief that almost anything, including most drugs, is ok to partake of. As long as the bill are paid, and you life at home, and your friends are taken care of, your time is your own to do with as you please, right?
It's when you start to make things, such as alcohol, a regular part of your life and other things, such as your family, or friends, or bills (or ANY responsibility for that matter) aren't getting taken care of-- that's when there is a problem. In this case, I'd recommend that you take a hard look at how this is affecting your life. Seriously, is everything getting taken care of? If not, look into getting some help. There's plenty of free help out there, tons of it is anonymous.
If it's all good... then, hey. Drink up. Be safe. Buy me a round ;)

because it's a depressant and apparently your body reacts to depressants by completely losing touch with the world around you. yeah. that's a great idea.

for your own health, please try and stop drinking, it can kill you... liver damage, alcohol poisoning... i bet you have more to offer the world than a bumbling alcoholic.

It's a depressant. It lets you run away from your problems. Most drugs can do that for you.

well because it destroys your mind. sorry that sounds harsh, but alas, alchole is harsh. it seriously kills your brain cells. theres honestly no other explanation for it.

it may also be caused by the addiction. like you know when you drink a coffee and for a while afterward, you are really really hyper. well its kinda like that.

the best thing to do is find some other way to clear your mind. a lot of people say jogging and yoga are good ways to achieve that. i personally prefer writing.
