Question Posted Wednesday September 22 2004, 10:43 pm
Sorry if this question has been asked before!!
You see, i wash my hair everyday, and it always smells soo good like my shampoo! I let it airdry, + it naturally goes curly.
The thing is, i straighten my hair; a lot, with the CHI [ceramic hairstyling iron.. it's my saviour!! :D hehe] my hair isn't dead, but it always smells kind of.. well, burnt i guess. So my question is, how can i get it to not smell like that? lol. It's kind of embarassing because people are always playing with my hair, and if i can smell it, i'm pretty sure they can too. Is there any kind of product you can put in afterwards to give it a nice smelling scent? Some sprays i've tried have only made it frizzy :S
thank you in advance guys!! <3 :)
p.s. PLEASE don't tell me just not to straighten my hair; lol. I hate my curls; and i don't know what i'd do without the CHI! :P lol.
lizzy_volleyball4 answered Saturday September 25 2004, 8:47 pm: well the thing about my hair is that if i air dry it then it usually has a natual curly wave in it but i hate it so whenever i try to get my hair straight i always blow dry it and if ur hair is still alittle curly then use ur straightner but it probably wont smell as burnt becuz ur hair is already preety straight well i hope it turns out ok bye
miSScxoxo821 answered Thursday September 23 2004, 6:18 pm: I'm not an expert at these things, and this may sound REALLY cheesey, but what if you put on a lot of perfume? Perfume that smells good at least. Or lotion that smells good. So ppl will smell your lotion/perfume instead of burnt hair.
Well, hope that helps! But could you help me as well and rate me? That would help me a ton! Thx!

Bethers5143 answered Thursday September 23 2004, 11:38 am: omg. i used to have the same problem! i have naturally curly hair too. i also straighten my hair. to make it smell really good, i use vitamen gel like stuff in a really small bottle with a black lid on it. i forgot the name brand, but i will tell you the next time i get back on the internet. but it makes your hair smell really good plus it makes it shiny and smooth. it is great. *Bethers* [ Bethers5143's advice column | Ask Bethers5143 A Question ]
Laura answered Thursday September 23 2004, 10:15 am: Okay, I think maybe you're doing it too long. If you leave the straightener on your hair too long, it gets a burnt smell to it. Try just putting the hair in the iron and running the iron down your strand of hair really quickly a few times, just until it's straight. Then move on, and don't do that part again. When you're done, get some Herbal Essences Leave In Condition, spray it on, it helps de-frizz, and it has a REALLY great scent! :)
mysticpixie05 answered Thursday September 23 2004, 9:45 am: All the straight iron will do is fry your hair. In time your hair will be dead. If you want it straight, go to a salon and tell them you want to get a relaxer. It will straighten your hair. Your if you dont want to do that try using Biolage, its a setting spray. It smells good and it will keep your hair straight for a longer period of time. You can get it at a beauty supply store. [ mysticpixie05's advice column | Ask mysticpixie05 A Question ]
Night.mare answered Wednesday September 22 2004, 11:39 pm: I know this really isn't the advice you wanted but I thought you should know, if you are straitening your hair that much, and it is smelling brunt, it is going to start breaking off in random places and then I'm sure you won't be happy, I suggest trying to dry it out strait before using your straitening device, then maybe you wouldn't have to use it as much [ Night.mare's advice column | Ask Night.mare A Question ]
MFS answered Wednesday September 22 2004, 11:29 pm: If your hair smells burnt, then you really are burning your hair.
First off, clean the styling iron. If it comes apart, do that. Obviously, make sure it isn't plugged in when you clean it. I'd recommend rubbing all contact area's down with rubbing alchohol first, then use a mild soap, rinse with water. If the smell persists, use a solution of baking soda. If that doesn't work - if you are able to take the unit apart, soak the contact areas in backing soda solution overnight; rinse with warm water; let dry.
After you've removed any burned hair smell from the iron - use it at a cooler temperature.
When using the iron to straighten your hair, make sure your hair is completely clean - no conditioners left in your hair - because those can also burn - and will burn right into your hair.
Notso answered Wednesday September 22 2004, 11:17 pm: hmm my CHI doesn't have a temperature setting on it, so maybe you're just holding it too long on your hair. Like run it through once to get the intial curl out, and then run it over again quickly. Don't go slow, basically.
Karen answered Wednesday September 22 2004, 10:55 pm: Is the heating temperature to your CHI all the way up? Don't turn the heat temperature knob all the way to 7-10 because it will ruin your hair, depending on your hair type. To make your hair not smell burnt, you just have to buy a thermal setting spray from Biolage or other brands. Whatever you do, don't put any products in your hair before you use your CHI because it'll make your hair worse trust me lol. Hope I helped :) [ Karen's advice column | Ask Karen A Question ]
dancer_freak05 answered Wednesday September 22 2004, 10:53 pm: I love the CHI too ....... The best thing ever invented. What I do is put a LITTLE Biosilk silk therapy ( keep it away from the roots to avoid oilyness and only use a little dab) on my hair before I straighten and then if it smells burnt when Im done, I will add a little bit more Biosilk and then it smells great. Just be careful not to use too much. [ dancer_freak05's advice column | Ask dancer_freak05 A Question ]
FrEe2bMe answered Wednesday September 22 2004, 10:51 pm: Alright, all you have you have to do is apply Biolage Thermal Active Setting Spray to your hair-I can't really describe the smell bhut it won't make your hair smell burnt. You can get it at Ulta or Sally Beauty Suppkly for like 10 dollars. Also, it keeps your hair from frizzing and it keeps it really straight! :) [ FrEe2bMe's advice column | Ask FrEe2bMe A Question ]
