ButterflyKisses52 answered Saturday September 25 2004, 3:57 pm: Trust me, if you love the game and your really into it, then you'll try out. You dont really have to worry about being in shape. Just do your best, maybe work out a little bit or run in the mornings or at night sometimes because it gets too hot during the day and you could overheat yourself. but if it makes you feel more confident about trying out then go ahead and work out a little bit. no health fitness ever hurt anybodys confidence.
hope this helps.. [ ButterflyKisses52's advice column | Ask ButterflyKisses52 A Question ]
*Nickyx31* answered Monday September 13 2004, 9:32 pm: well 1st off i can relate to u cuz i fuckin love basketball with all my heart it my life. if u relaly wanna make the team 1st of u should be dermined and u gotta wanna learn. if i were u i would practice after practice and if the caoch see you maybe he will help u out a lil. when u praticing works on ur left ahnded lay up and right haned lay ups too. then do short lil jumpers. and then start to move back a lil bit when u fell like u can. tehn take long shots. and if u are a post player work on inside moves like jab steps n taking it to the basketball if you are a wing work on getting the bacll and shooting it. if u have like af riend help u out work on ur v- cutting . now if u a pioint guard work on ur outisde shoots and ball handing skills to. no matta what work on ur ballhandling skills . like here are some drills to work on ballhanding skills
figure 8 betwen teh legs walkin
figure 8 dribbling
spider
between the legs
around the head , wasit and , ankles
dribbling with 2 balls
and otha if u kno of any of them
i relaly hope i help u out and good luck at tryouts
if u got any more question aobut anything u want i will answer them for u

BballBumMegan answered Thursday September 2 2004, 10:34 pm: Well basketball is definetely a running sport...so u need totry to run at least 5 days a week...you could also do exercises to strengthen your arms...medicine balls are good as well as all the basics (push ups..lifting..etc.) You also shood go outside and practice ALOT...practice not only your shots but ballhandling too...try going inbetween the legs and dribbling with your head up...thas all i can really say...but ya know that a team needs a top assister just as bad as a top scorer! so i encourage u to try out for the team and i am sure you'll make it...good luck! xo_Ali answered Thursday September 2 2004, 8:48 pm: You should definatly go for it. Just practice over the summer a little. The couch can't be expectimg you to be amazing or anything. Just remember that during tryouts you cannot be doubting yourself! Just focus on the game and I'm sure you'll do fine. Personally I don't know any basketball tips because I'm not on a team but for getting in shape: run, bike, workout in the gym, even dance! Just make sure to do it daily! Good luck! xoRachel answered Thursday September 2 2004, 7:54 pm: I LOVE BASKETBALL TOO!!! =cD What I would do is practice shooting and run a couple times a week. Start working out and practice free throws. Dribble a basketball if you go running outside and dribble with your weaker hand a lot. Practice lay ups, cross overs, behind the back, through the legs, etc. But you have plenty of time to get into shape. Run a lot so you'll get faster, and get a medicine ball (15 or 20 lbs) or something and go outside in the grass and lay on your back. Then throw the medicine ball up in the hair and catch it. It'll be hard at first, but it really helps strengthen your arms. If you get one of those squishy things they sometimes have at the counters at like White Hen or some place like that to make your fingers stronger, it'll help you get rebounds. I know it's a lot, but it'll help A LOT! Hope I helped! Leave me one in my inbox if I can do anything else for you! =c)

UnluckyWishes answered Thursday September 2 2004, 7:40 pm: i play for my school and i just practice simple stuff to get in shape for it and it seems to help.TRy practicing jump shots, lay-ups ,reverse lay-ups,foul shots.Maybe ask a parent or friend to help you with passes, guarding and boxing out.Take a basketball and you know how people circle it around thier waist without it touching thier body well try to run whiling doing that.it's kinda hard if you havent done it before but it seems to help alot.Hope i helped and if you have any questions i'd be happy to help.Good luck w/ try-outs. iBeTyOuwAnTtHegOoDiEs answered Thursday September 2 2004, 7:39 pm: ok girl listen to me .. its hard to find a good defensive player so with you already being good at defense.. thats a good thing for you. i am the exact same height and weight as you and so im thinking that you dont need to work out or lose weight. the only thing im gonna tell you to do is run alot and work on your shooting and dribbling since ur probably gonna be a point guard. hope this helps ...
