Microsoft Word

Question Posted Tuesday August 24 2004, 4:59 pm

Alright, in Microsoft word, how do you change one word (lets say the word "red") to another word ("blue") with out going through the whole thing and retyping ever single word? When you add something to you dictionarly, can it be deleted?

Go to the replace option + tell it to switch "red" to "blue" .. and, yeah, i'm pretty sure it can.

You just highlight 'red' and press delete, then you type in blue, easy! I don't think you can delete things from the dictionary no sorry.

For the red and blue thing..Look for "Insert" on your keyboard and hit it. That makes it so when you type something, you dont have to go back and type everything over

If you want to change several instances of the word, click on Find and then Replace.

for the red to blue question, click the mouse on the left side and highlight the word. then you can write the new word two ways: 1) if you backspace, it will clear the old word so you can just type the new one and 2) when you highlight the old word, start typing the new word over the highlighted old one and the old one will erase and the new one will be there. if you mess up and somehow erase a lot, click redo. if you dont know how to redo, theres should be an icon on the top with an arrow, and if you dont have the icon, just press "ctrl" and the letter "z" on the keyboard on the same time, and whatever you erased will come back up. im not 100% if you can take words out of your added dictionary, but im pretty sure that you can't.

#1) Edit -> Replace... -> Enter text for Word to find, followed by text for Word to replace that text with. Have it go at it. Done.

#2) I don't use Word's built-in spell checker, because spellcheckers are proven to make people lazy at learning to spell correctly, and they often don't work very well... THAT SAID: Yes, you can edit what has been entered into your personal dictionary:

Go into Tools -> Options -> click the Spelling and Grammer tab... then Custom Dictionaries... from there, you want to modify the current one. Should be pretty straight-forward, but they did bury it waaay the hell in there, didn't they? ;)

Hopefully, you should be good to go.
