no its not true. but you can do a hell of a lot of damage to it while its in the womb. fetal alcohol syndrome is what you can do to it.

Any Alchohal, not just vodka, can cuase birth defects. It probably could kill the baby but its more likely to give it birth defects.

firstly- Katie, Down Syndrone is caused by a trisomy of the 21st chromosome at conception. This is not caused by alcohol. It's caused by the 21st chromosome not splitting and there are many other genetic disorders caused in this way.
secondly- what goes through a pregnant woman goes to the baby. If she eats pie, the pie goes to the baby. If she drinks, that goes, too.
thirdly- embryos has very tiny brains that cannot detect thought (typically until much later outside the womb). When alcohol is drunk by someone with a completely developed brain, the alcohol goes to the brain. In excess the alcohol begins to kill of itself. In a baby or growing brain, less alcohol needs to come into play for the same effect. It may not kill the baby (though it can, just the same as higher binges of alcohol can kill humans) but any amount WILL harm the baby majorly.
