i've always wondered...
okay... i've been pondering this for a very long time now... say that you've been going out with a guy for a while and he's a year older than you... say when you met you were 16 and he was 17... when he turns 18 and you're 17 and you have sex... why would it be illegal? i mean it's not like he's 32 and you're 17... i really don't see anything wrong with that... also if you've had sex with the guy before like while you were 16 and he was 17 it would seem really stupid to not have sex for a year until the other person becomes legal... i'm sorry if this is confusing but i've always wondered

I think it's legal in some states and not legal in others. I THINK [[ i'm not positive, but i've heard ]] that some places anyone over the age of 16 can have sex with someone 18 or whatever. And it's not illegal if you don't tell anyone, so as long as a girl doesn't get pregnant // nobody finds out, it's no big deal.

and they think that you shouldn't have sex until your mature enough, which for some people is before adulthood, for some people after, and for most people by adulthood.

Wow I completly know exactly where your comming from. The rule about 18 is really dumb. But the reason why they have it is because once your 18 your no longer a minor your an adult. But soon there going to be changing the law to where if someone finds out your having sex with an 18 year old, they cant get in trouble unless the girl/guy claims rape. I honeslty dont think you need to worry. Just be careful and remember safe sex. Use condom`s =)

It's not stupid.. hmm... in some states the age of consent is different. Like in south carolina it's 16. That means a 16 girl can go out and have sex with an older guy. Check with your state laws, see what you can do about it. I don't see why it would be illegal though. Since there's only a year difference in age.

If he turns 18 and you're still 17 that is not illegal. If you were 15 or 16 and he was 18 that would probably be a different situation actually. My husband at the time I was dating him was 18 when I was 17 and it was not illegal so you have nothing to worry about. I hope this helps!

well in most states there is a 4 year difference after you are 16. So like a 16 year old could be with someone up to age 20, 17 yr old w/ a 21 yr old. you get the pattern. its only illegal if one person is under 16 and the other 18 or over.

It is illegal my dear for the simple fact that he is 18 and you are not. The law has many bullshit rules to it(speeding,any sex besides actual is illegal in louisiana,meaning no oral,anal,etc,. The law views you as underage and he as taking advantage of you,even if he is not. It's a stupid law but I'm just trying to save your guy some jail time. And he'd have to register as a sex offender. When you're 18,you can do a lot of things a 17 year old can't do. Voting,ordering Girls Gone Wild videos,buying porn,and finally cigarettes. I only do the first but thats not the point.

It is stupid. There are lots of sex laws because sex is taken VERY seriously. If the person you are having sex with is 3 years or older than you, or over tha age of 18, it is ILLEGAL to have sex. Make sure you and this guy are as close as you think before continuing to have sex, because you could get him in a lot of trouble. I hope I could help.
