Search online for "how to train your iguana" or "iguana care" There are some really good web sites out there that can help you along. You could also try getting some books on iguana care and iguana training. Just be gentle with him and he will soon learn that you aren't going to harm him. sansira answered Sunday August 1 2004, 2:37 pm: I had a terrible time getting my iguana used to me, and it took about seven months of regular bribing with food before he relaxed. But if you spend time with your pet every day and let him make the choice to come to you you'll have good luck with him. In particular, I advise using food as bait to get his attention. It's going to take patience, but iguanas are very intelligent and affectionate, so it's really worth it. [ sansira's advice column | Ask sansira A Question ]
MelpomeneMuse answered Thursday July 29 2004, 1:12 pm: I had the same problem with my rat. If you put your hand in his cage, he freaks out. He freaks out because the cage is his territory. You should take him out to hold him and play with him or whatever. [ MelpomeneMuse's advice column | Ask MelpomeneMuse A Question ]
mozogurl answered Tuesday July 27 2004, 4:24 pm: I have a bearded dragon, and for the first couple of weeks, I couldnt get near him. Then he began to trust me when I gave him treats like vegetables, and strawberries. After a while I taught him that he would only gets the treats if he eats them from my hand. Now he sits on my leg while I watch TV!!! It might take up to a month for them to fully trust you. [ mozogurl's advice column | Ask mozogurl A Question ]

Depending on that you can judge how long it will take by how he takes to u being around each time. Im sure it wont take that long if u spend a while everyday with him bc he'll just get used to u being there.

RandomLeigh18 answered Tuesday July 27 2004, 9:22 am: well... i have a baby parakeet and she was the same way. i took her out everyday for 20min. then took her in the bathroom away from distractions. she soon got to learn that i was her friend and now she loves me. Her name is Skylar. it took about 2 wks if you are really dedicatd and take it out EVERY DAY!! if you miss a few days then it will take it longer to get used to you. btw, dont hold ur iguana more than 20 min a day until it gets used to you because it will stress it out completley!! Stress is not good and it will like you less. so only 20 min a day.
