Another Weight Issue Question

Question Posted Tuesday July 27 2004, 1:09 am

Hey everyone. I'm a 16 yr old female and I've been living with a weight issue all of my life. Both of my parents were big people and of course I ended up the same as them. I've been teased a lot my whole life because of it, people do it without realizing how much it hurts. Right now I'm about 5'7-5'8 and weigh about 190lbs. I really want to lose weight but every time I try, I can't keep up the motivation. I try not eating junk food, I don't drink soda, but I still cant manage to lose the weight. I walk a lot, but the problem is I guess that I don't have people that are behind me in this. My mom keeps buying junk food, and if it's here I'll end up eating it and feel bad for it afterwards. I really need help in doing this alone but I don't know how. I'm hoping someone can help me before it gets worse. I'm hoping to lose a significant amount of weight maybe before next summer. I rate also, thank you so much.

Ok I agree with the other two, but have this to add. Try taking the stairs or the walking the long way around instead of an elevator. Every extra effort counts, and you will feel better. I admit that I don't always have junk food in the cabinet, but I will go get it. Sometimes I am too lazy to go get it and that helps. Lose the remote to the TV and change channels by hand. Its a constant battle, but the fact that you see it now is a good thing.

First off, try talking to your mom about it. Tell her you love her, and you love her buying you food that's sweet, but that you'd really like to lose some weight. If she starts saying stuff like "You're the perfect weight" Make her see that it's unhealthy being overweight, or if you have to, go to a doctor who can talk to your mom and put you on a healthy diet.

If you can't talk to your mom about it, then whenever she buys junk food, train your mind to eat something else, it's REALLY hard (I've tried it) But you have to train your mind. Instead of reaching for an Oreo, eat an orange, oranges have natural sugar but aren't fattening. Try running, sounds ridiculus, but try it, if it doesn't work for you then stop.

To keep up the motivation, everytime you're about to eat junk food, imagine yourself thinner, and getting on the scale and being proud of your weight, imagine yourself looking into the mirror and seeing an image you like. Start out with small goals for yourself, like losing 1-2 lbs a week. Eventually the motivation should become second nature. Hope I helped =)

Relax. Since you're still young, you have time to slim down, but it's not going to be easy and will take a very long time. It will also take a lot of discipline,a lot more than you have now. I say start running a little bit at a time and then build up. You have to have more discipline about the food. Have one day a week where you eat bad,but that's it. The other six you have to play by the rules. Very strict rules. Do running, have a low calorie breakfast and lunch. Then have an average dinner. Start playing a sport with some of your friends. It's going to take awhile to lose the weight, but if you just keep trying, you will. If you have trouble finding motivation, look at yourself. If you honestly feel you look bad,you will do something to change it. Will you feel better by eating the junk food or skipping out on it? It's gunna take a strong person to lose the weight, but keep your eyes on the prize, and you'll get there.
