Depression, God

Question Posted Monday May 23 2005, 11:50 pm

I don’t think people have anything to live for at all. Most people live for other people even thought everyone will eventually die. I think life is pointless and there is no such thing as “making a difference” because in the end none of it matters. My teacher says everyone wants to be remembered after they die, I don’t want to be remembered. Some people live for God, which I think is stupid because I don’t believe in God. If I did, I would hate him, why? Because he has control over us. Killing yourself is wrong because you’re interfering with “God’s little plan”, right? That doesn’t sound right now, does it? Everything happens for a reason doesn’t it? If something happened to make you want to kill yourself then is killing yourself still wrong? If God doesn’t want it to happen then it shouldn’t happen because he makes everything happen, doesn’t he? Can someone help me understand this whole “God” concept?

making a difference could mean helping someone. You don't have to believe in god. you should relize how happy you can be. All you have to do is have confidence in youself. Martin Leuther King jr. made a difference and it matters. You can make a difference. Nobody can explain ''the whole god concept''

There is no direct answer to this..Im young but Im majorly into this kind of things. If you believe in God or not, either way, you can make your decisions. Nothing has greater power then your mind within yourself. "God's little plan" is also considered your life. Killing yourself is your decision, at it will affect the "Plan", AKA other people. Once your gone people can't feel as full as they were so they become a little catatonic. This is the "Plan"- other people and your/their life/lifes. Theres no real answer, it's what you decide to think :)

Here it is... plain and simple. God has a plan for everyone. Only He knows how your life will end. So when you kill yourself, or die any other way, He knew you were going to. So your not going against "God's Little Plan". Maybe it seems that way to you, but that's because you have no clue what your future is going to be. Only He does. He knows how you will die, when you will die, why you will die. He doesn't control it. It is all based on the choices that you make, the paths that you take in life. And the choices that you make in life are unpredictable to you, but He already knows which choice you will make, and how you will end up. So it's not some little plan everyone is set out to follow... It's the choices you make that determine you future and your fate.

Actually God doesn't have control over us. He gave us free will to make our own choices. And anything that would make you want to kill youself is a trick from Satan so yes, killing youself is still wrong. God might not want us to kill ourselves but it's our choice. He isn't going to stop us if we choose to kill ourselves. I hope I haven't made myself sound like your typical Biblethumper because trust me I'm not. If you ever want to talk about this sort of stuff, my sn is el7842433clubzxc by the way.

God isn't the one who makes people want to kill themselves, the devil does. See, it's an ongoing battle between God and the devil. The devil tries to steal people's souls, by putting obstacles in our life. Some people just give in to the obstacles, allowing the devil to take their souls in hell with him when they commit suicide, or start worshiping him. If you believe in Jesus, then their is definately a purpose in life, because when you die you will go to heaven and have everlasting salvation in a place that is unimaginably wonderful.Don't let the obstacles the devil throws your way sway you from God. Hope that answered your question, or helped. God Bless.

I'm glad that your thinking critically about the subject. Here are some links that might help you figure out what you personally believe (the sites that host them are good too):

[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

If you need help finding information about a specific religion of philosophical path, please ask. I've got a lot of links. :)

Some personal thoughts:
I don't think that there is a specific something to live for that's universal for all people. I also don't believe in absolute predestination, although I do think that some outcomes are more likely than others. I believe we have free will, and that we can exert our will to change the world around us. I do believe that it matters, partly because I don't believe there will be an end, and partly because "matters" doesn't have to be so long term. An example: on sunday I saw resident evil apocalypse. After the movie was over I was a little icky feeling (partly from the movie, partly cuz I had a rough week last week). My friend came up and gave me a hug and I felt a little better. It didn't really change anything but my mood. You could say that his action didn't matter in the long run, but it improved my mood then and it's given me an example to give you. It mattered a lot to me personally, right then, and it's one of many tiny acts by many people that let me know that I am cared about. So even such a small and easily forgettable actions matters.

WometDog answered Tuesday May 24 2005, 12:47 pm:
It's a misconception to draw the conclusion that life is useless simply because we don't know its meaning. Surely there are still things that you can derive satisfaction from, even if it's just pizza and beer.

Besides, it takes just as much faith to say that death is the end of the ride as it does to believe in God. For all we know, aliens created our species, or we live on a holodeck, or whatever, and death really isn't the end. Who knows???

In any event, search your feelings and think rationally about your existence. Is being cynical about life shedding any higher truths? Making you happy? Ignore subjects like fatalism, free will, and other such subjects for your reason to wake up; David Hume said "But amidst all your philosophy, be still a man."

That has to be a horrible way to live your life. You should really try to get over "hating" the God that put you here. I think you should live every day as if it were your last. You should live every second of every day~ the ups, the downs, the laughs, and the tears.. they are all just part of life. I know what you tell yourself "theres too much bad shit in this world.." And YES there is. But without suffering there would be no compassion. Even if you dont believe in God, every day is a gift. You shouldnt be so negative, because that just drains away any happiness you could have every day. I can understand how you would be confused, and I have had my doubts, but in the end.. you should just let yourself live and be happy, and not worry about anything else. It will all just fall into place. Just be happy with the time you have here on earth. I hope you find your path.

Michele answered Tuesday May 24 2005, 10:15 am:
Like you I have had doubts about God, but then I read a book called Where Two Worlds Touch, or When Two Worlds Touch, by Gloria Karpinski. It really opened my eyes. It is NOT about GOD, it is about sprituality. It made a lot of sense to me. In a nutshell it said, that we are all spritual beings who want to experience and learn from human emotions. We come down to earth willingly. We need to experience and learn, hope, charity, love, humility, faith, selflessness. And things like that. During our life we are confronted with opportunities and lessons to learn these things. If we learn from our human experiences, we advance in our enlightenment. Until we reach total enlightenment and/or acceptance of human nature and our spirituality. then we return to the spirit world and we are content to remain there. If we don't take advantate of the opportunties we have here on earth to learn and become more enlightened, and then we die, we return to earth at the same level we left, only to repeat over and over again the same mistakes, until we learn. Personally, when I read this, and I thought about the mistakes I had made....it made it more important to LEARN because I DID NOT want to repeat any of them. So if you think life is not worth living, and you decide to end it. You will come back at the same level, until you learn to accept life and the opporunities that are here for you. Things do happen for a reason, sometimes the reasons become known to us and we learn, sometimes we refuse to see the lesson in a situation and we don't learn. Many times we make things worse. Why not pick up a copy of the book. Maybe you will find something in there that "speaks" to you. Like I did. And you will become more at peace with yourself. That is what happend to me. I love life and want to live to be 100, and I also feel it is my job to help people along their paths. help them to see that what they are doing it not working for them. Help themto understand that they cannot control or change other people. Only themselves. And by just accepting this....they learn so much.
I hope this helps, and I hope you find your path.
Michele

Hmm I can understand kinda' where you're coming from. Personally I'm agnostic, I don't particually believe in "God" because I don't believe in the bible and some of it's teachings. I'd have a hard time putting my faith in God when I don't believe in some of his teachings! But yeah, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, nobody should ever force you to believe in God. I think it's great that peopel believe strongly in God and for some that trust has helped them and gave them happiness and inner peace through which I think is wonderful so long as they don't try to push their values onto me! As for living, I truly believe it's an experience. You live to learn as much as you can, be curious and try things out, sometimes you fail, sometimes you suceed, and it's the memories of everything that keeps peopel alive and the hope for the future and futher experiences, and memories. I found myself questioning life and it's worth for three years of my life, and then I suddenly just realised... Ok I don't believe in God so it's not something I can put my faith in, so now I'm just going with what I feel is right which is to live each day as it comes and just do you're little part in making the world a nicer place for yourself and people around you ^_^
Hope this helps you in some way!

hi there

first of all, all i can say is that we were put in this earth for a reason, ii don't know why and someday i'll find out.

i also think that living is different from being lived, not everyone would want to be remembered when they are gone. forinstance, i think if a person accomplish something to other it would seem that they havent done anything at all.

i also don't think people live for God, God created us and i believe we are suppose to treat every individual as how we would want to be treated,

i sometimes agree with the theory on everything happen for a reason, i honestly don't think that God would want us to kill ourselves.

i believe God gave us the path to make the decision Good or Bad and we shall be judged on that.

i also ask my self this question, why does horrible things happen, well i have come to believe when the time is right all will be well, where there's a will there's a way.

do you belong to any religion?
it would help you a great deal i am not saying you have to belong to one.

whatever you decide good luck
