I need your help deciding what the ideal menu for a public dinner would be.

Not knowing what would be the best dishes to serve is making this an impossible task.

If you will tell me your favorite foods, or point me to your favorite recipes, it would really help a lot.

You can list as many things as you like. They don't have to be fancy things at all. I am all about the comfort food baby! :)

This will be a mixed group of people so I would like to have something for everyone.

Cooking for a banquet is not as hard as trying to figure out WHAT to cook!

alright i play lacrosse, and after practice every day i always get really hungry... or at least i feel like i am. i usually dont have dinner until an hour or two after i get home. but i dont want to keep eating until im full right when i get home because then i cant eat my dinner... or i do and its a problem. i havent quite gotten down the whole snacking without having to be totally full thing yet. haha but are there any types of foods in particular that would be good to hold me over till dinner and that dont require much preparation? and how much should i eat for a snack sized portion of it? thanks (link)
ok-well, i love these chips. their found in the whole foods isle of my store. it feels like your munching on junk but its good for you. They're HERR's parmesan garlic chips. I think a good portion would be probably up to you. I'd say between six & 10 chips, depending on how hungry you are. Eat slowly & when your stomach isn't grumbling force yourself to stop so your not so full you cant eat dinner. Special K bars are good. I also would reccomend tryinG:
-a slice of whole wheat bread(maybe raisin or cinnamon/raisin bread)
-half a whole wheat bagel (also in raisin or cinnamon raisin maybe)
-small, little cups of fridgerated cinnamon MOTT's applesauc
-any fruit (i like strawberries, grapes, blueberries or half a grapefruit with a little calorie-free sugar)
-a small amount (like the amount you could fit in your palm) of cheerios or other healthy cereals (as ive said in other questions, as a chocolate-lover i like SPECIAL K chocolatey delight cereal)
-one or two jumbo marshmallows
-half a graham cracker
-nuts


*also, check the nutritional information on granola bars. some arent as good as you'd think...


I have decent muscle tone but I think I could use a bit of fat loss. I know you can't really go by numbers and it's better to just go by if you like the way you look (and you're healthy of course), so my guess is if I lost around 5-10 pounds I'd be happy. I'm 15 years old, 5'3" and about 128 lbs right now. I don't want to totally change my life but hopefully I can make do with some changes to help me lose my gut, haha.

I know it is better to eat more small meals than 3 regular sized meals. On weekdays it could be difficult to do this - what I think I can do is eat breakfast at around 6:30 AM. I then have lunch at school from 10:45-11:15 AM. When my school ends at 2:20 I have 20 minutes to get ready for my sports practice, and I usually end up rushing because I talk to friends before getting ready. I will work on that and attempt to eat a small meal around then. My practices end everyday around 4:45-5:00 PM. Dinner is usually around 6:30 for me and I usually just have to eat what my mom cooks.

I'm not very good with figuring out how to distribute the meals to be a good size so I have enough energy but I'm not over eating, and how to balance out the nutrients.

For breakfast, I love eggs with cheese... I'm not sure if that's a great idea but it's always my favorite. If it's not good, what else is a better initiative?

For lunch it doesn't matter much but my cafeteria's selection isn't very healthy so I pack my lunch - anything that won't spoil in my locker is fine, so suggestions here would be great :)

For the meal before practice, I would want something quick and not needing any preparation. My mom buys whey protein bars which I like, would that be a good idea? Or something else quick?

Dinner isn't my decision usually, but most nights I eat a spinach salad and something along the lines of a chicken cutlet and a vegetable or pasta.

I'm trying to also drink a lot more water to keep myself hydrated for my practices and I drink milk for the calcium (and I love it).

I know that was a lot but if anyone can recommend some foods to make this plan work it would be great!

I know exercise is a huge part also but I have to ask that separately because there are some complications, lol. Thanks though! (link)
i eat super healthy & here are some things i have:

breakfast-probably eggs arent the best choice. maybe try hard-boiled eggs with salt/pepper instead. but you seem to exercise a lot so you could probably let yourself go at breakfast. breakfast is the most important meal of the day cause you have the whole day to work it off & you dont want it to keep you full. I eat the new Special K Chocolatey Delight with bananas & or strawberries cause i love chocolate & it gives me energy (its really good for u too).

lunch-a like pita ("No Fat Whole Wheat Pita Pockets")or whole wheat bread. I also like to buy "Light flat-out wraps" & put some shredded cheese, turkey or chicken & lettuce. i buy the small MOTT'S cinnamon applesauces also. i often pack fruit also.

the before practice meal-u could have pita, applesauce, or fruit from lunch. you could also try melting one slice of american cheese in a pita. you could also get a quick, on-the-go baggie of cheerios or some other healthy cereal.

dinner-you sound like your doing good. with pasta, try longer pasta if you can have a say (like angel hair, spaghetti or linguini). also, tomato sauces are much better than cheese ones. you could add chicken, hard-boiled eggs, shrimp, salmon, scallops or raisins/grapes to a salad if possible to spice it up & keep you interested.

Hey iam 17 years old and iam a female and for some reason i've been really embarrased about my weight i've been telling myself that I eat to much and that iam fat.my friends and family keep telling me that my weight is fine,but I don't belive them I tell them they just say that becouse they are my friends and family and they have to say that to be nice.Iam 5 foot and 1 inch tall and I weight 149 lbs and I've also been skipping breakfast,lunch,and I eat supper,but I just eat a very small salad in order to lose weight my friends and family seem very worried about me and keep telling me that i'll make myself sick if I keep doing this to my body.I also walk for about a mile everyday after school and it's true i've been exsperincing headaches alot and my stomach has been feeling funny lately and i know this isn't normal could I be heading for anorexia if iam what should I do and who can i talk to to get medical help?

yes...trust me, my sister went down a very similiar path. She only ate like a potato every day starting in sixth grade. By 7th, she was tall for her age and weighed a shocking 67 pounds. She went to a doctor && he told her that she might not be able to have kids someday if she kept not eating. I have followed this diet for the past three months & ive lost significant weight. Here is what i do: I eat three meals a day. At breakfast, I have a big bowl of cereal with fruit to give me energy & keep me full (i personally like Special K's new chocolatey delight but any low-cal, fat & sugar cereal will do). at school lunch, i always pack my own lunch. My favorite is a "Light Flat-Out Wrap" (available at ACME and other supermarkets) & i put lettuce, a sprinkle of shredded cheese, & chikcen or turkey. I also like whole-wheat pita sandwiches with a slice of melted cheese or pretty much anything inside. I often have fruit also & little cinnamon Mott's applesauce containers. For dinner, i enjoy chicken, shrimp, salmon or scallops on a casear salad. Snacking's good too if you just have fruit or something healthy.

If you get anything from my super-long (sorry!) entry, please be it to stop not eating. Like the previous advice-giver said, your body will go into starvation mode and not burn fat. If you starve yourself, you'll get really fat as soon as you eat anything. So you must eat to build a healthy metabolism!!! Enjoy a fatty food once a week also to keep metabolism & spirits up

Ok...well, if your ever with a guy friend who you like/would wanna go out with/think is ok && be like "so, you have a valentine this year?" i know guys-they'll prob. say "nah." then say, "who would you go out with-just to see how u like it?" then quickly be like "okay, i'll go first. i would go out with (name some guys u know than say casualy)probpally you." then smile at him and say "You?" if he likes you at all, her prob. say you and then explain "well, i dont have a valentine. do you want to be mine, just for valentines day?" hope this helps/works.

Okay so I like this boy named Joey. And he suposedly likes me too, but I don't believe him. He gets mad at me if I bring up other guys or something... like I used to like his friend Kyle && I asked the other day if Kyle was going to the game && hes like uhm why do you like him? && he got all mad , when he found out I used to like his other friend too. But he like doesnt sweet talk me lol , I know thats bad sometimes , but I think its cute. So this has started ever since highschool began, I can't eat breakfast, I just feel nausia when I see food, eggs, bacon, poptarts, sandwichs. I know its unhealthy I've been forcing myself to eat breakfast now! Yesterday I forced myself to eat a poptart and I threw up, I only had 4 bites? It's almost been a month and my parents are getting annoyed that I don't eat what they make me to eat. But then at like 9:59am-12:00pm I'm starving. Why is this happening?! And I have diahhrea now, which I have no clue why! HELP!

Adolescent nausea is surprisingly common. The reasons aren't always clear. Sometimes, teens suffer from reflux disease, a condition where acid in the stomach irritates the lining of the esophagus. These symptoms can occur at any time but they are most common when lying down. Occasionally, this kind of reflux follows a stomach infection with helicobacter pylori, the germ found to cause ulcers. However, more often these symptoms result from anxiety.

Most people know that their stomach hurts when they are under stress. How do emotions effect the stomach? Vomiting is a primitive defense. When human beings first roamed the earth, they ate tainted food on many occasions. One of the earliest defense mechanisms was the ability to vomit a bad meal. The tendency to vomit is associated with these primitive defense mechanisms. It’s not surprising that these feelings come back when we feel anxious. People often describe the sensation as "having a lump in the throat." This occurs because the digestive system shuts down to save energy in case you have to fight or run away. So emotions can certainly cause physical symptoms. Medical tests sometimes demonstrate these problems. A gastric emptying study may show a stomach that empties poorly. Other tests show acid rising in the esophagus. But these tests may only be abnormal under the conditions that produce the symptoms.

It’s harder to design a test to demonstrate the causes of anxiety. A diagnosis is most easily made through clinical experience. It helps the doctor to know that most teenagers are unlikely to have a serious disease. Adolescence is probably the healthiest time in life. Adjusting to new roles and expectations are the challenge of this stage of life. Accordingly, in most cases, a teenager is more likely to have emotional problems rather than a serious medical illness. However, remember that pregnancy in women can cause both anxiety and physical symptoms of nausea and morning vomiting. Drugs use in teens can also present with these symptoms.

Many people have trouble accepting that physical changes result from emotional causes. It’s sometimes possible to use medication to improve the symptoms while encouraging teenagers to examine how their lifestyle is contributing to the problem. We usually start by prescribing a mild antacid. These medications are very safe. They neutralize stomach acid without getting into the bloodstream. A second line of medication is called Cisapride. Cisapride helps empty the stomach more rapidly. This allows a teenager to eat some breakfast which helps reduce nausea. When the teen is feeling better we discuss ways they can improve their life to reduce stress.

The first step is to teach a teen to listen to their body. Teenagers often get very "keyed up" without realizing it. Meditation, yoga or karate can help a teen "tune in" to their body. Relaxation exercises may teach them how to relax when they get "up tight". There are other recommendations that sometimes help. Most families are very rushed in the morning. Get your son up a half hour earlier than usual and encourage him to do something relaxing. He might be encouraged to listen to gentle music or read a book. Tuning off high stress news or music radio stations. The object in all these measures is to "turn down the emotional volume" and allow the teen to relax enough to eat some breakfast. Better nutritional habits and regular exercise are often the best medicine.

These suggestions may not work immediately. Aim for small improvements. And most of all make sure your son gets to school unless he has a fever you can measure with a thermometer. Most teens aren’t inventing symptoms but it is easy for them to get out of a normal routines that provide a rhythm to the day. A teen who misses school, often sleeps all day and stays up all night. This backwards pattern can last for months leaving a teenager grumpy and exhausted. This problem isn’t unique to teenagers but it is sometimes easier for kids this age to fall into poor lifestyles that affect the way they feel. Insist on a normal routine with regular meals, school, exercise and sleep. This quickly starts most teens on the road to recovery. Teaching a teen to adopt a healthy life style isn’t easy but they have a lifetime to practice an improved approach to life’s stresses.

Im almost sixteen, female.
So I kinda like this guy, and we've been friends since about 4th or 5th grade. Hes not like my best friend, or even my best guy friend, but we've been pretty cool. I dont know if i want to ruin that. Anyways, i kinda like him, and he really likes me, and hes supposedly gonna ask me out soon,like in the next couple of days. On top of that, i just broke up with my boyfriend a little less than a month ago (Sept. 1st) and they r kinda friends, but not that much. And, my ex was really attached to me, so hed be really upset if i started dating him now. (Actually...when he heard we're going to homecoming together, he called me that night, and started yelling and cussing at me! and we'd been broken up 2 weeks then. But maybe he's gotten better since then)Whats a good amount of time to wait? And is dating this guy worth all of this drama?

So my friend believes hes going to get mono because he kissed his girlfriend who had a sip of someones drink who had it. I'm a little worried because I took a sip of his water not knowing about the whole ordeal but I know most likly that no one will actually get mono. He says it takes a month to surface and the girl (his gf) only took a sip about little over a week or two ago. I don't know if this goes here but here goes...Iam 17 and I still sleep with my mom,I don't sleep with her as much as I use to becouse i relize that iam a little old to be sleeping with her,but when I start thinking about my dad who died when i was about 12 I get so upset that I can't sleep so I end up crawling in bed with my mom and my stepdad gets up and sleeps on the couch so I can have more room,but i was wondering why do I do this when iam 17 I think i may have some kind of mental disorder.Is there a disorder that cause this?what are some ways that I can start to sleep in my room or at least on the couch in the living room?please help me! Well, i was nine and couldn't get out of my parents bed. So i eased away from it. I slept on the floor in a sleeping bag. Then, i slept in my bed but my mom stayed with me until i fell asleep. Then, eventually I eased out of it.
When my dads away, I still sleep with my mom in her bed cause its so COMFY!!I dont see anything wrong with doing it every once in a while, even though some people do. But if you can't get away from it know, don't worry. When I was little, I always slept with my parents. People told them I would never be able to sleep by myself. But here I am, 13, sleeping in my bed. You'll get out of this eventually so dont sweat it.



I have to wear the same stuff every week to school. I've tried mixing and matching and I've mixed and matched everything that there is! I can't go shopping tonight because it's 8:00 and my mom won't take me. Is there some good hair style that doesn't involve straightening or curling it that I can do, some make up ideas, jewelry, etc that I can use to draw the attention away from my outfit? (link)
It depends how curly your hair is, but you can sleep with two braids in your hair and in the morning take them out. This makes your hair real wavy. You can also seperate your hair into two parts and connect them at the bottom. Then, pull the bottom through the whole in the top that parts both sides. This works really well unless your hair is thick. Cute watches help accent outfits alot. You can use cute belts or you can use scarves and just tie them around your waste. Cute headbands are cool. Also, if your in like a middle school, ribbons for your hair are nice. Hope this will help

i dont want to sound like Dr. Phil or be preachy but sometimes hormones effect your behavior before your period & even in between periods. When your annoyed with her, maybe you should step back and ask yourself what annoys you about her. If it's something stupid, try to forget about that flaw cause she's your friend. If it's something big, tell her. If she's truly your best friend, she'll understand. Hope this will help


Okay, this is really really long. But I promise: spelling, grammar, and all that stuff will be easy to read. So we shall move on.

I'm in 9th grade and I'm 14/f. I am bisexual but I haven't come out yet since 99% of the people at my school are homophobic and about 50% of them will jump me =P. Anywhos there's this girl named...let's call her Julie. Julie likes me and I like her. There are two problems though. 1. She likes PDA (Public displays of affection) And that won't be good if I went out with her since the school will find out. and 2. She and my friend Kayte went out together last year.

And then there is James and Keith. They are both in my biology and history class together. Now, we haven't done gorup work or partner work in History yet but we have in Biology. 2 infact. The first time I worked with James and the second time I worked with Keith. James was like "Mia, you ditched. Go away." In a not serious way but more of a friendly way.

I like Keith and I'm pretty sure he likes me and I also like Stephen but he only likes me as a friend. See, I want to work with Keith because I want to go out with him but I would also like to work with James because he's my good friend and I want to be best friends with him. Not to mention that he has a rock band which is really awesome and I'm sure he'll make it big. But that's not the only reason I want to be friends with him. So the next time we have a group or partner work in Biology I want to work with James but I'm not sure if he'll want to with me. He jokes a lot and I can barely tell if he's kdding or not so that's also a problem

Sooo it's like I like Julie and she likes me while I also like Keith and James. Julie also likes James and Keith likes me. Confusing? Yes I know. So, what shall I do about this matter? Should I stick with Keith or James or if James doesn't care alternate between them for group/partner activities and as for Julie, should I tell her I'm bisexual or not and if I should should I go out with her and see what happens? And what is a easy way to get Keith's screen name without sounding like I'm stalking or like him? Like what shall I say to ask him for his screen name casually? Sorry this is so long =X (link)
I really don't have experience with this cause i'm straight. But i think i may be able to try to help yu. I say that you talk to james first. Tell him you value their friendship and hope you guys can continue to be friends. Also, tell Julie your bisexual. You'll never get together if yu don't. Then, casually give Kieth your screenname. That way he decides if he wants to im you or not. As for the partner thing, alternating seems like a good idea. Wish I could have helped yu more
