Thanks a ton.

I don't know if you still need help on this, but I know the answer so I'll tell you-

basically when people talk about sig figs they're refering to the first three figures of a number; the significant ones. Numbgers after that are unsignificant.

For example,

98.763333333333

Draw an imaginary line after the third number (if you're looking for three sig figs. Otherwise adjust accordingly):

98.7/63333333333

now, just look at the number immediately behind your imaginary line. In this case it's a 6.

If the number after your imaginary line is a five or ABOVE, round the last number before your line UP. If it's BELOW five, round it DOWN.

So the 7 before the line would become an 8, since 6 is ABOVE 5.

So the answer is 98.8 (to 3 sig. figs.)

This method will work, no matter how many significant figures you are using.

theres basically just 3 basic rules::
umm leading zeros dont count.
ex .0045 [only the 4 & 5 count bc the 2 zeros 'lead' them, therefore 2 sigfigs]
trailing zeros count if theyre before or after a decimal
ex. 350 only has 2 sigfigs bc the last zero doesnt count, but 350. has 3
and captive zeros count
ex. 40401 has 5 sigfigs

hope that isnt confusing!

I hated Chemistry. SigFigs were really confusing. If you still want help, here's what I can remember.

-All numbers 1-9 are sigfigs. Example: 9461 has 4 sigfigs
-All zeros between sigfigs are sigfigs. Example: 1000606 has 7 sigfigs
-All zeros ending a number with a decimal are sigfigs. Example: 38.0 has 3 sigfigs
-Zeros ending a number without a decimal are NOT sigfigs. Example: 3800 has 2 sigfigs

Here are some more examples.
5013500.600 has 10 sigfigs
83030 has 4 sigfigs
1 has 1 sigfig
10 has 1 sigfig
100,000,000 has 1 sigfig
100,000,000.0 has 10 sigfigs
1.0 has 2 sigfigs
3.20 has 3 sigfigs

I hope you understand it better.
