advice

A cart with a mass of 100 kg accerlerates when 10 N is applied. If the mass is doubled, how much force is required to maintain the same accerleration?

Hi. :)

This is really quite simple. All you have to do is calculate the acceleration from the original mass and force (100kg and 10N).

F=ma --> a=F/m

Then, you just use that acceleration with the newly doubled-mass cart (now 200kg) to find the new force.

Hi,I am from Jamaica
the right side of my throat hurts bad when i swallow anything even saliva and it makes my right ear hurt a lil bit... it is so uncomfortable. can anyone advise me on what to do to make it better?

It could be nothing, but it's definitely not something to ignore. I remember the same thing happened to me last winter. It hurt so bad to swallow, and the pain extended to my ears. I went to the doctor just to check things out, and it turned out I had strep. So give it a few days, and see if you feel any better. Otherwise, go see a doctor.

im only a few weeks pregnant, but i have been getting really sick. i have a urinary tract infection and i also have a cold. im going to go to the doctor soon but i have to wait until i have the money. i have had the uti for about a week. Im concerned for the baby since its so early in the pregnancy. If i wait any longer will this have a serious affect on it? and with me having a cold also, will this cause a problem. this is my first so im concerned.

Yeah, I had a UTI last summer that I just brushed off, cause I was dumb and thought it went away. It spread to my kidneys, and I got a nasty kidney infection. You DON'T want one. I can only imagine that along with a cold, it can be potentially dangerous, especially if you're with child. I'm not a doctor, and I couldn't tell you how it would affect your baby, but I would see a doctor ASAP!

She's been having nightmares for the last 3 weeks. She had dreams that she saw her best friend die. She's really scared she wakes up at night crying. She sometimes cries in the morning too. She doesn't wanna talk about them. What can I do to comfort her ? What should I say to her ?

I'm asking this question primarily out of bemused interest, as someone from the UK.

Why are Americans so obsessed with the royal wedding?

I understand why so many British people are interested in it, because it the royal family are an important British institution but I don't understand the American fascination.

I definitely was not obsessed with it, but I did watch it. For a few reasons:

1. I couldn't sleep anyway, so it at least gave me something to do at 6 in the morning.

2. We just had a very devastating tornado outbreak, where over 300 people have died. Let's just say I needed something positive in the news to watch, rather than tornadoes ripping apart peoples' homes.

3. I just happen to love weddings, and I must say Kate made a beautiful bride. :)

I live in a house with no interior rooms and no basement. Our house has been here for ages through other tornadoes as well so I assume it's fairly sound, but what can my family do?

We don't have any ditches that aren't under power lines, either, and we're under watch for a tornado tonight. Our bathtub/bathroom in on an exterior wall, as well. We have sturdy furniture to be under, but if the room we're in is blown away what difference does it make?

Your safest best is to find out if any of your neighbors have interior rooms or a basement. If so, make a plan with them in case of a tornado to seek shelter there.

f/17 Well recently ive noticed that its painful for me to have sex. not excruciating, but enough to bother me well when my boyfriend puts it in..(TMI Sorry) it only hurts when we get started after we get going i feel no pain whatso ever. Ive been tested for stds once before, and only have had two partners since then and i know it wouldnt be from my boyfriend now but i noticed that its only like on the inner/outer part of my vagina if that makes since, I also feel little bumps but i think thats just normal im not sure though and i dont think its herpes because that comes and goes and this has been going on for a few weeks now. could it be an std? I have absolutely no other symptoms but i know they dont always show symptoms? or could it be something diffrent? or could it just be i need lubrication because im kind of dry when i start to have sex and it causes me to hurt at first?

The person below me is right. I just want to add that lack of lubrication could very well cause pain during sex, because of too much friction. Try using lubrication next time. See if that works, and if not, then go from there.

Okay so my last period was the 18th of january and my ovulation week was from the 3rd of feburary around there and he busted in me on the 3rd and 6th and 16th and i got my period on the 20th which it is today and its really light and really light colored. its not normal and i tried putting in a tampon and it felt weird? idn am i just tweaking or is it a possibility?

You didn't specify whether or not you used any kind of protection, whether it be via condoms, contraception, etc. Either way, it's important to know that anytime you have sex, there's always the chance for pregnancy. And this risk gets increasingly higher whenever protection is NOT used, especially if you think you are ovulating. Getting your period does not necessarily mean you aren't pregnant. You know yourself better than we do; if you think something isn't right, then that is up to you to decide.

I would highly suggest getting a pregnancy test (or 2 or 3) to find out for sure and to at least put your mind at ease. I hope everything works out for you.

Do they have to make their own dough? How do they work at a cash register?

I worked at the Hut for 2.5 years. My experience was a bit different than the previous adviser, but this is probably due to working at different kinds of Pizza Huts. Some are restaurants, some are only carry-out, some are delivery, and some are a combination of those. Each place will be different with their own set of regulations and ways of doing things.

I worked at a combination carry-out and delivery place. Here, you did NOT have to make your own dough. Everything (and I mean everything) came pre-packaged. Generally, you'll have 1 of 2 jobs (besides being a delivery driver, if it's that kind of restaurant). Either you'll prep the food and answer phones, or you'll actually make/cook the pizza. None of these jobs are very hard, but if you have specific questions about what is done, don't hesitate to ask.

As for the register, only the manager and assistant manager were allowed to use it, meaning I had no experience there. I did, however, work the register at another job, and it was very simple. I wouldn't stress about how to work it. If that is what you are assigned to do, you will be given the proper training to do so.

Okay so during the school year I have 8 am class every morning so I take my pill at 7:45 in the morning before class and it's not a big deal... but for winter break i'm gonna have a month off and I'm not gonna want to be waking up that early to take it. I know you're supposed to take it at the same time every day but if i like switch it up for like a month will it still be effective?

I think what may work the best is if about a week or 2 before your winter break, take your pill an hour later, each day. That way, it's more gradual and should be just as effective. But you should use a back-up method, such as condoms, during that time, just to be sure. Otherwise, I think it's fine. :)

I'm 20 years old and I thought I knew what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Turns out, I don't. Big surprise! I'm currently a transfer student and I'm now attending Penn State University for my Junior and Senior years. At first I thought I wanted to go here, I did since I was little. But now that I'm here I don't think I like it. It's so big, way different then what I'm used to, and I feel like I can't get the proper attention I need to focus in class when my classes have 200+ people in them. I don't have a lot of friends up here because I always sit beside someone different and I never get their names. But I don't want to regret leaving if I do decided to go to another college. So I'm confused.


I am currently majoring in Veterinary and Biomedical science. I'm an animal lover at heart and I would love to work with them, but after taking a few course I've realized I suck at chemistry and I need to take a lot of chemistry courses for this major.


I really have no idea what I need advice on I know you guys can't say "go to this college and major in this major" I just want to know if any of you have been through this, what you did to figure it out, and just anything else that could be helpful to me. I'm really just getting super stressed out and overwhelmed and any kind of advice you could give me on this subject would be helpful.

I, too, am a transfer student at, where else.. Penn State University. :) I'm a senior now and a meteorology major.

Like you, I always knew what I wanted to do, and where I wanted to go. Then I realized how much math, physics, and chemistry I needed, and started to second guess myself, cause I'm not exactly great at those subjects. I almost switched majors more times than I can count.

But I will tell you this. If this is really what you want to do, don't let all the hard courses discourage you. I know it's difficult, but I also know that you can get through it. I've made it though some of the hardest courses there are (and incidentally, most failed) with a C average. You can pass the chemistry if you really want to. Biggest advice I have: go to the office hours. That way, you have one-on-one time with your professor, instead of being 1 of 50+ students in the class. It really helps to get to know your professor; The benefits are endless.

Anyway, I can really relate to your situation. I've been stressed, upset, depressed, and full of anxiety most of my time here. But I know that in the end, no matter how hard it is, it will be SO worth it to graduate in the end. That's why I keep chugging along, no matter how hard things get.

And don't forget to HAVE FUN! I know it's big, but you're going to have such a great time here. The more people you meet, the more comfortable it gets, and the better times you're going to have.
