I'm asking this question primarily out of bemused interest, as someone from the UK.
Why are Americans so obsessed with the royal wedding?
I understand why so many British people are interested in it, because it the royal family are an important British institution but I don't understand the American fascination.

There has not been a Royal Wedding for almost 30 years. So it is only natural for lots of people being obsessed with it. People think that it is a mark in history because it has been a long time. Also parents would want to make their children watch it because there has not been a royal wedding in their generation. Those children tell their class mates about it and that is how an obsession starts. It truly was an important event all over the world. Even in other countries such as the United Arab Emirates (full of Arabs), and Sweden. Simply every one wanted to watch it since it is a rare event in history!

I can't figure out why in the world the British would make such a big deal out of it, and I have NO idea why it would be on any of our TV stations, never mind most of them. Er_Bear19 answered Friday April 29 2011, 4:58 pm: I definitely was not obsessed with it, but I did watch it. For a few reasons:
1. I couldn't sleep anyway, so it at least gave me something to do at 6 in the morning.
2. We just had a very devastating tornado outbreak, where over 300 people have died. Let's just say I needed something positive in the news to watch, rather than tornadoes ripping apart peoples' homes.
3. I just happen to love weddings, and I must say Kate made a beautiful bride. :)
Razhie answered Friday April 29 2011, 4:10 pm: I don't get it either, but I'll say this much for the royal wedding:
It is more legitimately interesting than everything Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton and anyone from the 'Jersey Shore' have ever done in thier lives - combined. [ Razhie's advice column | Ask Razhie A Question ]
AdviceMistress answered Friday April 29 2011, 4:04 pm: I'm an America. I'm not obsessed with the royal wedding though. I find it to be way too commercialized especially because its in another country. I guess the reason that some are obsessed with the royal wedding is that its almost a fairy tale in the sense that there is this beautiful gown and it has to do with royalty. Here in America we don't have a Queen or a Princess so I guess its all about the royalty. [ AdviceMistress's advice column | Ask AdviceMistress A Question ]
