I am 18 years old, studying A levels in sixth form. I've watched all the dramas of school and family life happen around me though.
People say I think sideways... so if you don't mind that ask away.
advice
When I was 9, almost 10, I wrote a horror/sci fi story. It was 200+ pages, but not very good. Two years later, I have now decided to start writing again, after a long period of procrastinating and wasting time.
I want to write a horror story, but I need ideas.. What would you want to read about? Any ideas? Also, if you have any tips on writing (especially horror), that would be great too. Note: This would probably be a novel, not just a short story.
Thanks (:
Adding to what dragonfly said~
When it comes to horror the main thing is it has to be scary. It HAS to be interesting and really terrify the reader to be successful.
Learn how to create tension and sudden jumps in your writing. Read horror, learn how to really paint gruesome, scary pictures in the readers mind. If there is gore, we want every single detail to gross us out.
If there is suspense, keep us waiting (but not too long) for the monsters to jump out... or slowly slither around our feet.
Whilst writing, think about whether or not YOU are scared- read ghost stories and scary stories late at night and set your imagination running. Whatever scares you, whatever feeling you get, try to write it down and describe it and why. Dont try to act big- everyone gets scared, and good writing pinpoints those emotions well so people recognise them, and feel and empathise with your characters.
Watch a few horror movies. You may be a little young though...
also, When it comes to horror, everyone is scared by different things. For example, the film "Silence of the Lambs"---I can handle seeing a gutted man being hung up by his neck and intestines, but someone losing an entire fingernail? aaaaah!!!! *shivers*
Try to pick a general theme and stick to it.
Some people are terrified of jumpy ghost stories, and can handle detailed gore when others are the opposite. Some people dont care about things that arent real- they are terrified of "reality" horrors about murders and messed up physcopaths- the idea that it could happen for real.
There are also different genres of horror- physcological is in the depths of the imagination and the mind (e.g. your main character can see things others can't and it scares them) , whereas a thriller will be more of a fantasy, suspenseful adventure (think loads of near death experiences).
If you want to do horror/sci fi, maybe think of a possible future reality that would scare people! Eg a "distopia"
Hi, I'm female, fifteen, and I've been in band for four years now. When I was younger, I used to be able to fall asleep to music, especially classical, but since I've gained a deeper understanding of what I'm hearing, I can't anymore. I'm tangled up in the sound, picking the music, chords, apart. It's an exciting thing for me. Lots of the time, I'll hear something that totally enthralls me, I get super excited. I tense up, clench and unclench my fists, and take in a really sharp breath, sometimes it's a sharp gasp. And I feel like I can Physically feel the music. It's the most amazing feeling ever. I started trying to figure out what it was and I think It's almost like sexual excitement, but without the "lusty" feeling. What is this and why do I experience this? And, would anyone know if it's normal to hear music you've never heard before in your dreams? Thanks in advance! :D
I dont know about that feeling but my advice is USE IT, it sounds special.
If you are that passionate about music, use it to practice and master it. It'd do you good, and not many people can be that passionate- use it to learn as much and play as much as you can.
Not sure if it is normal, but i like these other people, play an intstument...and I dream music i've never heard before quite often. Waking up is weird becuase everything is too quiet!
Dont worry about these feelings, just go with them- they sound important~
:D
Have fun with music! Its a lifelong skill and you in paticular sound like you could really make something from it.
I have these marks on my thighs. They're right where my private part is (Tmi, I know haha sorry). There's about 4 on my left thigh and 3 on my right. At first I thought they were stretch marks, but they're red/pink. They're not bruises or cuts, because they don't hurt. When I touch them, I just feel the mark where it's at. What is this? I'm starting to freak out a little bit. That's the only place where these marks are. Also, I'm a female if it matters.
They probably are stretch marks.
But thats alright because girls at your age (including me) can often get them because their thighs and hips are changing rapidly with puberty.
They'll fade away eventually, but there are creams and oils you can buy at the pharmacist to help.
Its fine, really. Girls have bigger thighs and wider hips. Just how it is.
The muscles and fat often gather around there too- girls ussually need strong legs ect for child-bearing and stuff. Its all natures way.
But it means you're getting that curvy woman shape~
So thats a good thing right?
Hi! I'm 13 and my boobs have developed, I have tits but no nipples. My nipples pop out only sometimes, but not all the time and when they do pop out its usually the left side.
Is this bad!!! Should I see a doctor!! Is this normal!! When will I get nipples!!! Please help!
What do you mean, no nipples?
Why do you want them to pop out? What visible through your shirt?
I guess some people want that... but where I come from people dont!
Also, youre thirteen.
Your boobs are just about developing. If theyre big or small theyve still got awhile to go yet.
They develop a year before your period starts ussually, and according to my sources (mom is a sex ed teacher) they can take about 5 years to fully grow, and for some girls, 10 years! So even if you started puberty as early as 8, you've still got some way to go.
Dont worry, they will probably sort themselves out.
The time to start worrying is if theyre abnormal when theyve supposedly stopped growing. Thats about 17/18.
Yesterday is really registered to me that I like to burn things/ light things on fire. I wasted my entire brand new lighter the other night on burning different things. Something about watching the flames arise and then die out feels good. Not sure if it's calming good or what, but I feel something. I've read up in pyromania and I don't know if that would apply to me or not
Everyone likes to burn things. Sort of-
Call it natural scientific curiosity, or some biological thing where in caveman times a campfire = warmth, civilisation and sometimes light in darkness, and safety causing relief and calming effect.
A lot of teens go through the "pyromaniac" thing where we like to watch stuff burn.
Where I live there were several incidents involving fires in parks and fireworks.
In fact, having been interested in pyromania and physcology I once read somewhere that its difficult to tell between teen/childhood experimentation and full physiological pyromania because they both involve these feelings of calm or gratification. Pyromania is very very rare in girls as well. So you may have nothing to worry about.
What is interesting is you can't pinpoint these feelings.
(There are also pyrophiles which are a little weirder than pyromaniacs)
However if it is causing really strong feelings- and you feel they are getting stronger, as adviceman rightly said, please see a phyciatrist.
It is not exactly a safe hobby and you may end up losing control of the flames and endangering lives.
I know boys are more bulky than girls but some of us can hold their own,I mean all my boy relatives are protective of the girl relatives like I got into an argument with someone and my cousins started yelling at them like lunatics, and my dad and grandad act like boys are the demon spawn of hell the way he hates them interacting with me or my sister. My dad'll try and murder anyone who tries to yell at me, my mom, and every other female he cares about. And once me and my friend were trying to lift something heavy and randomly two boys just started whispering to each other and came over and lifted it for us. I guess because me and my friend who were trying to lift it are on the small side. And also in camp this boy kissed all the girls and we screamed and literally EVERY SINGLE BOY IN THE ENTIRE CAMP started picking fights with him because of it. I'm 10, and everyone in the grade is 10 or 11. The boys are always asking a certain girl to feel their biceps. This one boy seems to think he is a macho man, and once I said,“The Babysitters Club is such a dumb book." And he said,“oh that book is beast(his slang word). Just kidding. I mean, imagine, the coolest guy in school (motioning to himself) reading that book." I looked at him, and he said less smoothly,“I mean, the guy who THINKS he's the coolest guy in school, like (a few boys names" then tells a thousand jokes on different boys, which made me laugh. He has been teasing me in art, then in every other time of the day acts like this smooth ladies man. Why are boys so weird and try to be “macho" and then complain they have to do everything for girls, yet no one asked them to do it. It doesn't make any sense.
Yes, boys are weird.
But then, wouldn\'t they say that girls are weird?
They do not have to do everything for girls, but if they are raised to be polite young men they may feel obliged to do it. Which, when you think about it, is quite nice really- doing it when they are not told too means they have thought about whats best for you.
The boys picked on that guy for kissing ALL the girls because that... technically makes him a cheat (not really, but kissing one after another? Bit of a player eh? That\'s a bad thing, the boys see it as wrong and are teaching him that.)
I think act macho as a sort of defence against other guys or to fit in or impress. Some boys in my grade are lovely to the girls, but completely change when they are around their friends.
The fact that they help you when lifting things and then suddenly tease you - well, that\'s just how they are.
At 10 years old, your grade seems to be just learning to see the differences between boys and girls. Sounds like this boy who is teasing you seems to like you a little bit. He may want to be friends but doesn\'t quite know how to get your attention. By being a ladies man he may be wanting the attention of girls now that he\'s 10/11 year old. That\'s the onset of puberty- wheyhey.
Your Dad, granddad and cousins are just trying to protect you. They know what other boys can be like around girls- they were once young men themselves.
All you have to do is tell them its alright, they don\'t need to yell and that you can handle this yourself. Its quite nice of them to defend you like that really, but tell them if they don\'t need to do it!
Boys will probably think girls are weird for getting upset for them doing the \"right\" thing etc. etc.
Don\'t worry about it now. You\'ll learn to handle them xD xD xD
All the characters in this show are really stupid. Lexi I hate to hell, that arrogant, stupid, BUT UGLY, mean, nasty bitch who everyone lets bully them,I mean when someone finally stood up to her(cough: Violet) everyone hated her and the main plot of the story was trying to “restore order" they should've gotten rid of Lexi instead of Cameron. And that's another thing, he spends all his time in the show being bullied and depressed and bad at everything, only the A.N.Ts have a talent, and only one. Chyna is always bragging about how she is a prodigy, meanwhile she can't do anything outside music. She was also horribly mean to that street kid in the series finale. I watched it to celebrate it's ending.
Okay.
...
Guess we all need to rant about something sometimes.
...
While were at it did anyone see the How I Met Your Mother finale?

So, my younger sister (She's only eleven years old so she can't have an account) is writing a fictional book, but can't decide on a conflict. The story takes place in a magical land in the sky (it's on Earth but nobody can see it because they use magic to hide it), similar to OurWorld if you've ever played that game. The main character is a girl named Sky, who is about ten years old. Anyway, I think it's a great idea, but she just can't come up with a problem or conflict for the story. Any ideas? Thanks.
Okayyyy just gunna brainstorm quickly;
The magical land in the sky gets threatened by our world on the ground because they have some magical powers up there we don't? How is the girl involved?
Maybe they've never seen a plane before and it comes flying through the world destroying houses because the pilot cant see it through the magic? They tried to make sure it wasn't in the way of planes, but sometimes...
Maybe Sky meets some bad people and follows the wrong crowd who use magic for bad?
Something precious to Sky gets stolen. She searches the whole of the magical world for it, meets various people who give her clues/help on the journey ... and she learns some dark secrets about this land on the way.
Maybe there's some FORBIDDEN LOVE- amongst two sides at war- between someone on Land and someone in the air. (like in Romeo and Juliet?!) Maybe Sky is their messenger (like in The GoBetween)
Maybe ALL of the above in one epic novel?
I'm currently doing research on how England developed into a nation-state. Soon enough I will have to write a paper on this from the Roman Era to 18th century. However, I would have pegged religion as a key factor to the way in Which England developed, however, I have found out that this can not be a 'claim' in my paper.
I was wondering if anyone who knows about the development of England as a nation-state would be able to give me a little nudge in the right direction: What made England develop the way it did/differ from other European countries at the time? I'm totally lost..
England! Im from there! I don't know what you exactly mean by nation-state, but what made us different from Europe? I learned some key events in year 8 history that might help you:
Firstly; In 15-something or other (Look this up) King Henry 8th could not divorce his wife. So, he broke away from Rome. He left the catholic religion and set up the Church of England! It severed us from Europe HOW IS THAT NOT A KEY FACTOR? Argue it!
Also look up the Tudors vs York
We differ from Europe as a nation state because we have "Countries within a country" Our country is the United Kingdom, or Britain, made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Before the Romans came to sort of unite us, each corner had its own customs and religions - Scotland had different royalty for a long time too- such as Celtics, Druids, Heathenism and Wicca. Vikings invaded before, bringing Nordic religions too.
Our language is made up of mainly German and other European invaders words. Particularly Anglo Saxon. It is such a varied Language, which has no structure, like German or French.
We don't have the Euro either, currency is the pound.
Don't forget too- there is a national identity- "Englishness" which is kind of like: Saying sorry to the person who ran into you, for example. All 4 countries do that kind of thing.
As part of the *industrial revolution*
(key word to look further into here I think?)
he Victorians expanded the UK into an empire- including Australia, India, Hong Kong and I think Canada at some point.

Hope that kind of helps give some background info?
22/f I've been with my boyfriend for 3 years, and there's the very real possibility that we will be engaged within the next 1-3 years. His cousin is 24/f and engaged currently. We are all very close friends, and went out for a double date last night. During dinner she jokingly brought up the subject of me and my boyfriend getting engaged in the near future, then more seriously brought up how she has this prenotion that she will be picking out my ring with my boyfriend. She is a good friend to me, but she gets very jealous over rings, constantly comparing others in his family to her own. I know she would pick out something lesser than hers, and besides that I would prefer it if my boyfriend picks it out himself without her opinion, considering I want to wear something that HE absolutely loves. It's not about the ring size to me, but the thought of her influencing my boyfriend so that I can be another comparison really bothers me for some reason. Is it pushy for me to ask him to (when the time comes) pick one out on his own? Or to go with someone from my family instead? Maybe I am over thinking this? Thanks.
You may be overthinking it.
You're not even engaged yet but it seems his cousin was hinting at it to you both.
Maybe just tell him when the time comes that you want him to pick a ring, because its special to you that HE does it, not anyone else.
But at the moment don't worry so much just cross that bridge when you come to it.
I'm extremely terrified of going to public school because of all the people there. I was bullied (I've told people, trust me) and I just don't want to go back. I'm not..
I also can't focus. I think it would be better for me if I was homeschooled by my parents (Or by computer..). How can I talk to my mom about this? I was planning to talk to her when we go out on vacation soon. But... What can I say? Please tell me what to tell her so she can say yes for sure. I'm scared of going back.
Home-schooling is difficult, and you'll need discipline which most of us lack!
Everyone's been bullied at some point in their life, and there are several things you can do. Like standing up for yourself~
don't let people treat you like that. Hit you? Hit them back. Its not the most conventional or right advice I know, but it works most of the time because bullies are cowards inside. The second you go into school with that "aura" of "don't mess with me" you'll find that no-one will even try.
Back on to home-schooling, you can tell your parents the reason you just gave here. Maybe even show them the question. They may understand, or not. You've got to convince them you will do better, not just socially, but also academically.
I'm in a rough situation right now, and it keeps happening because I can't "think before I speak"... The situation won't help with the question, by the way. But I really need to know how to think before I speak because I just speak and don't think... I know that's weird and confusing but please tell me how I can think before I speak. Help asap please, thanks.
Do exactly that, THINK before you speak. Pause slightly before answering- but not too long. Just think about what they said and all the things that you SHOULDNT say that'll make it worse. Observe the situation and carefully word your answers.
Don't be so hasty to reply- I don't think there's any other way to master this other than practice.
look at this:http://www.wikihow.com/Think-Before-Speaking
Thinking before you speak is the way to better comebacks too!
I'm a 13 year old girl and when i turn 14 (It's ages away)I want a party. I don't want a little sleepover, but i want a proper one like in those American teen movies. I know I'm really young and usually you have them when you're like 17 or 18, but i just want to know a few things:
-where would i have it? (my house is quite big, but it would be sort of awkward, so i would rather hire a venue)
-Is it a good idea? Or would people just not take it seriously?
-How would i get a lot of people to come? even though my social circle isn't very big.
-Should/would there be alcohol?
-How much parental supervision should there be?
-How many people should i invite?
-How much would a venue cost? (in pounds)
-Any additional things you might want to add about parties?
I most likely wont be able to or something, but I'm quite curious, and i think it would be fun :)
And please tell me if this is a stupid idea! Thanks!! :D
To be honest, I shall speak from experience; it all depends on the maturity of your guests and how your parents feel about it all.
A party is always a good idea! And if you want to hire a venue it will be quite expensive- depends on the venue. If its the village hall its going to be cheaper than a city nightclub.
At 14, alcohol is a complicated one. Technically its illegal but we've all been to parties where there's underage drinking... >im not encouraging it, but it does happen<
If you're going to have alcohol don't overdo it- it wont be worth the trouble you'll have if someone gets really ill. Either stick to light things like a bucks-fizz and cider, or don't have any at all. Save the vodka shots for your 18th.
If you want a big party- like a total rave in a hired nightclub and you're willing to spend the money, invite everyone in your year at school.
If not, just invite all your social circle and ask them to bring a friend from out of school or something.(Don't let it get out on Facebook, you don't want a million people turning up and being the usual scare story in the daily mail!!!)
Parties can be awesome if everyone has a good time. It may seem cool to get drunk and sick and mess up everything like in the movies, but in reality its just hell to be a host where everything's going wrong like that.
Of course, at 14, parents are going to be an issue. Be really nice to them from now on, as the decision is probably going to come down to them at this age! Lets face it, if they're paying, then they're going to decide the alcohol/guest limits. And the price range too. If they aren't then GET SAVING now!
I saw a cat dying today, and it was especially traumatizing since I have two cats, and I get an up close look at their lives. Ever since, my brain has been getting the better of me, and I'm really sad, and can't stop thinking about it. I know these things happen every day, and the cat isn't in pain anymore, but I cannot stop thinking of him rolling in pain and jumping up and down. It's driving me insane to think I couldn't rescue this poor innocent thing. How can I stop thinking about it? I try distracting myself, but it comes back to haunt me. Please help fast!
oh i had a similar thing once. Dont worry it'll go on for awhile longer but eventually you'll think about it again and it wont be so traumatizing. It will go away just keep distracting yourself. If it goes on for like, months, then see a brain doctor....a physcaritris..sorry i cant spell:
"Sigh-Kii-ah-trist"
Hi, sorry I didn't know which category this belongs in, and it is extremely long.
I'm 18/f and I've had many experiences with deja vu. I'm not a "believer"; I don't believe in any religion, anything spiritual/mystical, or anything along those lines.
I always believed deja vu was something that could be explained by science and psychology, but I'm starting to think differently. This is because of an experience I had with deja vu.
Normally, I get the feeling that I've already seen/done something that is happening, but I know iT hasn't happened. You know, just that normal, creepy 'familiarity' feeling that comes with deja vu.
Normally, when I have deja vu, if I tries to think back and remember "Have I done this before?" or "Why is this familiar?", there is nothing, its all just completely new but strangely familiar.
But the last time I had deja vu, it was different. It was like I COULD remember seeing that exact situation before, but different, like I was unconscious or asleep at the time of experiencing it. It felt almost exactly the same as attempting to remember a hazy dream you had last night. It wasn't a real memory, it felt weird, like I hadn't physically done this before, yet I COULD remember seeing it.
I was shocked. I couldn't believe I remembered seeing this deja vu, and I kinda got mad at myself for not remembering it before I experienced it, like "How could I not remember seeing this happen?"
The point of this is that I'm asking you for some kind of explanation or similar experience.
What is your point of view on this and on deja vu? Can you provide any explanation, whether it be logical or spiritual? Have you ever had a weird experience with deja vu?
Don't worry about offending me, just give me your opinion, even if it is calling me crazy :P
Thanks.
opinion:For me, deja vu is when i can remember exactly when and where i dreamt this happening. Its ussally boring stuff like putting on a certain pair of socks and looking at a specific tree at the same time >too bad its not lottery numbers<
But yeah, dont worry about it so much~ its one of the many beautiful mysteries in life :)
ok well i am a 13 year old girl and i was born on may 21st. some magazines/websites/papers say i am a gemini and some say i am a taurus. i am on the cut off day. which horoscope should i follow?!?!? ahh its confusing. i was born early i was due june 9th btw if that changes ur answer at all haha thx :)
Taurus sign Ends on may 20th and Gemini STARTS on may 21st ... if you were also due in june then congratulations youre certainly a Gemini!
So first of all I have a phobia of throwing up and what started this was that a few years ago I drank too much soda and was throwing up all night. Every since then I have refused to sit on the couch the I spilled on and I have been scared to sleep in my bed. My mom wakes me up every morning because I am immune to my alarm clock and I wake up by being yelled at like this morning. She said she might a well take my bed out of my room but I am scared to tell her why I don't sleep in it. How can I overcome this? It also could be helpful it you could tell me how to wake up with an alarm because in a couple of years I will have to get up before my mom.... Thanks! :D
Maybe try getting different sheet covers, disgusing it so it doesnt look like the same bed? Get a Ridiclously loud alarm~ if that doesnt work, try the most annoying phone alarm, and place it so the only way to turn it off is to get up and walk!
