Either one is good, but I also recommend getting one with spermicidal lubricants, for added protection against pregnancy. Don't buy into those ribbed for added pleasure things; they're a hoax. If you can't find a way to get condoms without being caught, you might try your school nurse or having a friend take you to a birth center. Those places hand out huge bags of free condoms. Also, you could always get some free condoms from trojan.com and have them mailed somewhere that your folks won't find them, such as an older friends house. Good luck.

Q: Okay. My boyfriend and I are thinking about going for the whole oral sex thing...and something about the whole subject really weirds me out. Like, I can't imagine giving a guy a blowjob, but it weirds me out even more to think of him going down on me.
For background, we've been together over 11 months, we've had sex, and we've usually kinda skipped over the oral issue. If it matters, I'm 17 and he's 18. I know I should just wait 'til I'm comfy with the whole idea, but I don't think I'll be comfy with it until I figure out what it is that's weirding me out. Anyone have any ideas?

You're probably weirded out because oral sex isn't something we do instinctively; it isn't really natural. There's nothing wrong with it at all, but to a girl that has been raised in a society that thinks body functions are disgusting, the thought of it can be scary at first. Don't do it until you feel comfortable. It isn't something he NEEDS you to do, no matter what men say. It's just a perk, and if he's getting laid, there's no reason to rush into something you aren't ready for yet.

Q: hey u kno how some people talk about a grl like having numbers sumthin like 36/25/34 or suntin like that?? what do those numbers mean?????
The first number is her bust size in inches around the largest part of her bossom. The second number is the inches around her waist. The last is, you guessed it, the measurement around her hips.
OH and BTW 36-24-36 is only perfect if she's 5'3" :)

Q: what happens during a gyno appt.?
Don't worry, your appointment will not hurt you or be too intrusive, but it will be a bit embarrassing. Your doctor will not mention whether or not you are a virgin or anything like that. He/She will probably give you a breast exam by pressing gently down on your breasts and feeling for lumps. S/he will then carefully insert either a speculum or a tube into your vagina. If the tube is used, it has a hole at the end so the doctor can swab your cervix for a pap smear. If the speculum is used, the doctor will open you up wider with it and take a pap smear that way. The tube is more comfortable but neither should hurt you. The pap smear really doesn't hurt at all, it just feels a little weird. They will make sure you don't have any diseases or infections. They test the pap smear to make sure you don't have STDs or cervical cancer. If your doctor is male, he will never be alone with you, they require a female nurse in the room at all times during your exam, so you can feel safe. Good luck.

Q: please dont delete this question..id really like 2 kno. well im a freshman in high school and ive been having my period since the middle of my 7th grade year. my friend told me that she had discharge before her period but then it stopped. i still have discharge. is there something wrong?

This discharge is called cervical mucous. It serves several purposes. It is there to clean your vagina constantly by moving out bacteria. It also serves as lubricant during intercourse and as a medium sperm can swim through to impregnate you. Having this is perfectly normal. As a matter of fact, NOT having it for at least a week between periods is a sign of possible hormonal imbalances. Your friend should see a doctor, or she may be prone to infections.

Signs and symptoms of pregnancy do not normally show up until after you have missed your period. You will just need to wait and see if Aunt Flow shows up or not. In the future, always use spermicidal condoms and you won't have to worry about it. I used them for 6 years with my husband and we never got pregnant. First month we stopped using them BAM pregnant! They are very effective. Be safe and take care of yourself.

I really believe that your sex life needs to remain private. It is not necessary to tell your current partner about your past ones unless there is a health risk involved. If you have been tested, after ANY relationship, boy or girl, and are disease free, than it really isn't any of her business, to be honest. How would your friend feel, anyway, if you tell her about your past together. He may want you to keep that under wraps. I find it is always best NOT to discuss your past partners.

Q: Hey, i am 15 and weigh 150 lbs. I'm not "fat" but i feel that way. I dont look it or anything, but i have no idea where the weight is going. I have been taking birth control for like 4 months, and that might be the reason for gaining all this weight, but i dont know how to get rid of some weight. I have tried the south beach diet, i dont eat that much.... never really have, i drink only diet drinks since forever, but i still dont know why i am gaining all this weight. It worries me a lot... Hopefully you can help.. thanks

You have the same problem I do. The only way I can lose weight is to excercise. Don't buy into those fad diets, they're crap. Just eat healthier foods and join a school sport. I played tennis and ran track and it kept me slender. As soon as I graduated *POP* fat girl city. You gotta move.

Q: Sorry... this is a sex question and there are somewhat graphic content. Not really bad but if you're young, you might not want to read this. Please only OLDER columnists answer this. I don't want advice from an inexperienced 13-14 year old. Someone who knows what I'm going through would help. And so... here's my question....
Hey, I'm 14/f and my boyfriend is 16. Yesterday I was at his house and we were doing sexual things and then I told him to go get a condom. (he uses them normally for self pleasure so it doesn't get anywhere...) So he went upstairs and got it but when he came back down I was crying. I don't know why I was crying. I really feel like I'm ready to have sex with him. We've been together for 2 years and we love eachother very much. It's weird though, I know that I'm physically and emotionally ready to do it it's just that, whenever we are about to, I get scared. Is this normal? Can anyone help me out?
PS- I'm a virgin and so is my boyfriend and we both want to lose our virginity to eachother.

It's normal to be terrified of your first sexual encounter. It takes awhile to get used to having sex, especially with all the social stigmata attached to it. Even after this guy, you may experience similiar feelings with your next boyfriend. I'm glad you are making safe and healthy decisions about condom use. Don't get discouraged; you'll be there in no time. It will be a very emotional time for you both, but that's normal!

Just avoid him, but don't be weirded out or ashamed. Everyone experiments sexually and you were just having fun. In the future, carry some condoms with you in these situations in case things get any hairier than just oral sex. Be safe.

Q: I'm searching for a good birth control method to use. I have taken Ortho Tri-Cyclen, and Depro Vera before, and would not be incredubly unwilling to try them again. The problem is that I have a very hard time remembering the pill each day, and I have heard bad things about the shot. Such as: weight gain, increase in discharge... and I find it hard to believe that it is healthy to go through your life without having your period.
I know that this should be a question for my gynocologist, but I could not get an appointment for another month or so. I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on a good method of birth control. Perhaps some good and bad experiences you have had?
Of course, older columnists prefered.

I prefer Mircette. Depo Provera shot can cause several problems and can often take a long time to get your system back to normal after taking it. Mircette is a pill, much like ortho tricyclin. I have tried several different pills and Mircette has caused me the fewest side effects. There was no weight gain with it, and it cleared up my complexion! Also, when I got off of it, I didn't have any withdrawal symptoms, my period got right back on track.

Q: I have a (suposivly common) Problem with my ovaries in which pin head size cysts on them cause irregular periods. I havent gotten my period in nearly 6 months. I had several MRI's done, and i saw a OB/GYN. Next week, I am going to a specialist at the hospital to consult about the problem, but I'm scared that they will give me an exam, and if they do, they will find out that I am no longer a virgin like my mom thinks! I'm incredibly scared, especially because my mom would killll mee if she found out. I regularly engage in sexual intercourse, and I'm afriad that if she knows, my trust will be ruined, and all hell wil break loose. Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

They can not tell if you are a virgin or not. The hymen, which is the indicator of "virginity" is not usually intact on women these days because we are so physically active. Running, riding a bike, horseback riding, all contribute to wearing down your hymen. If you are to get an exam, you should ask your mother to leave the room because you aren't comfortable with her seeing your yaya. They aren't going to say OMG YOU AREN'T A VIRGIN, they are very discreet. Good luck with your cysts. I have read that they are caused by eggs that did not develop properly. Is that what you have?

Ok, here are the true, scientific facts: About 2 weeks before every period, basically right in between cycles, you ovulate (release an egg from your ovaries.) Eggyolkenema is actually ALMOST right. It's not a month before, though, it's usually 2 weeks. Women are all different, however, and some ovulate 3 weeks or 1 week before their period. If the egg is fertilized by sperms, it will implant into the endometrium that lines the inside of your uterus. Therefor, if you happen to have sex the first time you ever ovulate, prior to your first period, you could get pregnant. If the egg is unfertilized, it will not implant and your uterus will begin to contract, your cervix (opening out of your uterus into the vagina) will open and you will expell the endometrium. This is your period. When you first get it, don't be alarmed if it is brown or pink, not just red, or if there are chunky things in it. It isn't actually blood, but a lining made of blood to nourish babies. I hope that helps. Be safe and see a doctor if you don't start menstruating by 16.

Q: Ok I know this may sound wierd and all but the other day I was searching around in my parents room and i found strange things like handcuffs, whips, and wierd looking masks. I remember watching something on television about this sort of thing but im not sure if its really happening with my parents. Can somebody tell me what i should look out for.

I think you should look out for yourself and stop snooping on your parents. I know it's very, very weird and you're going to be all freaked out by finding something like this, but it's really not that weird or abnormal. Your parents have sex, that's where you came from. They have very kinky sex. If that weirds you out, just block it from your mind and move on. It's their business. Would you want them to wonder exactly HOW you made out with your boyfriend, all the details. Of course not, it's private. If you have cool parents, and it really is bothering you, maybe you can ask one of them about it. You never know, those things might just be gag gifts from a raunchy office party.

I agree with the previous answer. You need to try just trimming instead of shaving so you don't irriatate the skin. Also, talk to your mother about seeing the doctor. If you are abnormally hairy, there may be a hormonal imbalance causing it. Good luck.

I recommend looking at some amature porn, seriously. Boobs come in all shapes and sizes. You best get used to them now. Trust me, when a man sees a boob, he's just happy to see a boob. He won't be very judgemental at all.

Almost every teenager feels like that from time to time at your age. You're male, so I doubt you'll be open to talking to anyone, such as a parent, favorite uncle, or school counselor, but if you ARE open to it, I recommend that first and foremost. What you really need to get out of your slump is a new hobby or obsession. Why don't you try out for a school sport or take karate classes? If that's not your thing, try to ride your bike everyday, form a dungeons and dragons club, start reading a new series of books, or whatever it is that interests you? Sometimes just giving yourself a distraction or activity to vent yourself on and maybe meet new people at can give you that little boost you need.

Ummm, you even put your teeth anywhere near his member and he's gonna be unhappy about it, so the braces shouldn't make a difference. When you put your teeth on it at all, this is call "raking" and can be quite uncomfortable for the poor guy in question. Curl your lips over your teeth and don't let them touch his penis. If you have so much head gear that this is not possible, then I guess you'll have to put off head for awhile.

You need the morning after pill, which is really just a very strong dose of the same pills you take for birth control.
