Idk if this is in the right the topic thingy. but anywho...
My period is like normally 10-12 days long and some times like 14-16 days. It is horrible. I have asked my doctor and shes told me its because i am "new" to it. but i have had it for like 3-4 years. not extactly "new". but i have told her(my doctor) that i have passed out before because i am losing sooooo much blood. IDK what to do. no one will do anything about this.
(not even my mom who has the same problem and is on B.C. and won't let me use her B.C until the Doctor says its ok!)
WHAT DO I DO??????? (link)

Hi there,
You don't say how old you are in your messsage.
If I were you I would ask your Mom to take you back to the doctors and discuss Birth Control pills WITH the doctor and explain how you are feeling and WHY you want to go onto birth control.
You also don't say where you live but here in Britain it is possible to go for free confidential advice about contracepetion from about the age of 13. Maybe you could do this.
There is not an awful lot else I can reccommend to be honest, the contracteptive pill is what made my periods regular when I first started, I only took them for 8 months but in that space of time my body had gotten itself into a routine and my periods have been fine pretty much ever since.
Hope you manage to get something worked out.

hi, does anyone have any experience with using witch hazel to clear up acne? if so i have a few questions..:
-how much is it?
-do you just put it on your face and leave it or do you put it on your face and rinse it off?
-does it help oily skin be less oily?
-does it dry out your skin?
-has it worked for a long time?
any answers to these questions and anything you can tell me about witch hazel would be a great help! i've tried everything to clear up my acne and nothing has worked. so thank you so much!! (link)

Hi there,
I had acne all through my teenage years and tried everything to get rid of it! Both prescribed medicines and over the counter stuff. Lotions, potions, pills, creams, cloths that promise you clear skin over night (Lol, the amount of times I was sucked in by advertising!)
There are lots of things that can help and there are things that don't do so much, you just have to see which treatment is best for you.
Also FYI a couple of common misconceptions about acne.
1) Only people who don't was get acne!
WRONG!! If you wash your face/affected area too much then it can actually make it worse because you are stimulating the sebaceous glands which will produce, yep you got it , more oil!
2) Only people who eat chocolate/fried food/have a bad diet get acne.
WRONG!! My dermatologist said that your diet doesn't really have anything to do with your acne.
The best thing you can do is arrange an appointment with a dermatologist.
They will be able to assess what type of acne you have and how best to treat it.
There are all sorts of things they can do and will continually monitor it so that if something is not working you can try something else until you find the right solution.
I eventually ended up going on Roaccutane (I believe it is called Accutane in the US) because mine was so bad and despite all of the horror stories you hear about people committing suicide the worst thing that happened to me was my lips going dry.
The only other bad thing about it was that it didn't do much for the scars I already have - but then it doesn't work miracles - so DON'T PICK!!!! I know har hard it is but don't do it, because you CAN get rid of Acne but you CANT get rid of deep scarring!
Hope everything get sorted and you have the lovely clear skin you want!

Hi There,
I think what you are refering to is to Cervical Smear (uk) or PAP smear (USA)
A Pap smear is a way to look at a sample of cells taken from a woman's cervix. The test is used to look for changes in the cells of the cervix that show cervical cancer or conditions that may develop into cancer.
All women who are or who have been sexually active, or who have reached age 21, should have an annual Pap smear. It is your best tool to detect pre-cancerous conditions and hidden, small tumors that may lead to cervical cancer. If detected early, cervical cancer can be cured.
As you are only 13 you won't have to worry too much about having one until you are sexually active or 21, whichever is first.
You can always refuse to have pretty much anything done when it comes to your body, I wouldn't advise missing out on these exams when you are old enough to need them though as they are pretty important.

i went to a tanning bed..the second i got off my skin was red. so i figure "well im just hot" nope..this is a BAD burn. what do i do? its going to hurt so bad and have that deep itch. i want to cry! (link)
|
HI there,
Use lots of aftersun, preferably one with Aloe Vera!
Drink lots of water. If it starts to blister DO NOT pop them as this can cause you to scar.
If it gets really bad then go to see your doctor as he can provide creams that you can put on to a)Stop the itch and b)make it heal quicker.
Next time you go (if you decide to go again!) put sunscreen on , reduce the time you are in there for and the heat intensity.
Good luck

I know that someone can get hemroids by pushing hard or even lifting alot of heavy weight. but does anal sex effect hemroids? (link)
|
Hi there,
Haemorrhoids are caused by increased pressure in the veins of the anus. The most common cause is the straining during bowl movement, constipation, prolonged bowel movements and anal infections.
Haemorrhoids can protrude out of the butt.
They are be very common - especially during the pregnancy and childbirth.
It is a myth that haemorrhoids are a "gay" problem, as it is commonly thought, and that you get them from anal sex. You DO NOT get them from anal sex.
50% of the world population suffer from haemorrhoids and most of them had not engaged in anal sex in their lifetime!
Take care!

I am strongly thinking about going on birth control, I would like to know if this effects me gettin pregnant in the future or any other serious risks. Please reply ?? (link)
|
Hi there,
Obviously birth control will prevent you from getting pregnant in the immediate future! (After all that's what it's for!)
The birth control options that are out on the market now have all been through rigorous testing so that it will not damage your chances of concieving in the future.
That said, people's bodies all react differently to different types of birth control.
The "pill" has many different types and they say that if you have been using the pill and would like to become pregnant then it normally takes a month of so to get out of your system. That said I have a firend who has been trying for a baby for 18 months now who had to wait a year to see a fertility specialist because she had previously been on the pill.
If you are consdiering getting pregnant in the next 2 years then i PERSONALLY (this is not a medical opinion, just mine!) would stick to using barrier contraception, such as condoms.
I would also advise anyone from using the contraceptive implant as in my PERSONAL (again, I am not a doctor) experience it is terrible! Gave me mood swings, bad skin and made me put on weight!
The best thing you can do is to go and see your doctor, he/she will be able to tell you what the options are and answer any questions you have about the medication you will be using!

Ok. Today I got shocked by like a 151 V. It didn't hurt but i was shaken it was my first time getting shocked.. and im still shaking from it.. very lightly. Im not hurt or anything but i still feel wierd..
Should I just let this pass overnight? (link)
|
Hiya
If it didn't do you any harm pretty much immediately (other than the shaky feeling etc etc!) then I would probably hedge my bets on you being o.k!
If you are still shaky in the morning and feel out of sorts than I would let your parents know and get them to take you to the E.R!
Good Luck (and in future try not to shock yourself with electricity - if in the future you feel the need to shock yourself, either dye your hair bright pink and get a mohican or jump in a bath of iced water on a cold day!)

I have to go for my first "girly" check up alone because I am having problems at school and they are being slowly sorted out but my parents know nothign about it but my health is going down. What I want to know is during this check up do they really look at your vagina and boobs and what do they do to them? Also do they do anythign to your bum? I am really embarrest andits happening in a month please give me some advice. (link)
|
Hiya,
I grew up in Spain and the UK, but when we had our first girly checks they didn't actually "touch" anything, they just asked lots of questions about how we/I thought my body was.
I really wouldn't stress yourself out about it sweetheart, they can't do anything you don't want them to anyway.
If you feel uncomfortable about anything then ask them to stop, and you ALWAYS have the right to ask for a female nurse/doctor/gynae.
Take care, you'll be fine!

I have been really sick lately with sinus infection. I woke up this morning with really bad chest pains. They are on the front of my body, in between my breasts. They only happen when I take a breath in, the deeper the breath, the sharper the pain, and when I puff out my chest. I'm kind of scared because I thought they would go away, but they arent, and its hard for me to breath. It hurts pretty badly. What could they be? What should I do. Please help me, its getting scary. (link)
|
Hi there,
Nobody here can really tell you whether or not it is pneumonia.
The best thing you can do is book an appointment as soon as you possibly can to see your doctor who can diagnose you properly and treat you for whatever it is that's wrong.
If the pains suddenly get worse or you are finding it really hard to breathe then get them to take you to the hospital.
Hope you are well again soon

I never payed any attention when my schoool nurse talked to us about it. can you answer this please? are we supposed to bleed ALL the time? i thought you only bled on a cycle or something.
i rate high (link)
|
Hi there,
No you are not supposed to bleed ALL the time.
Most women have a cycle of between 26 and 30 days and at the end of that cycle they normally bleed from between 3 and 7 days dpending on the person.
If you have only just started your periods, don't worry it's probably just your body trying to regulate itself and get into a cycle so some months you may have 2 periods and other months you may not have one at all.
I would reccommend though that if you have been bleeding continuously for more than 7 days to speak to you Mom and get an appointment with a gynae just to get checked out. It's probably nothing at all to worry about but best to check!

Is it true that if you crack your knuckles they get bigger? This seems totally fake to me...how can your bones grow because you move them around? (link)

NOT TRUE!!
It's an old-wives tale!
Although I wouldn't recommend it!

okay well lately the area around my vagina has been really itchy. like since firday (today is wensday). its like really sore and pinker than usual. i told my mom but she didnt think anything of it. she thought it was a reaction to the soap so i tried the kind i used before and it still is like this. before my discharge was just white but now its like yellow and smells gross. should i go see a doctor and if so what do they do? and what should i do/not do before going?

Hi there,
Just out of curiosity have you taken any anti-biotics recently or been run-down?
If so then my money would be on you having thrush which is a really nasty itchy yeast infection. It's quite common and lot's of girls get it (I have it everytime I use anti-biotics!)
The best thing you can do is go to your doctor/gynae and they will be able to diagnose it properly.
In the mean time go and buy a tube of Canesten (Not sure whether you get it in the US but we have it in the UK) It's a cream designed for thrush and will stop the burning sensation, it won't do you any harm and irritate you more if it isn't thrush but it's worth a go!

Hey there,
I'm not sure what it could be but you are doing the vest thing you can do by going to the doctors to get it checked out.
If there's anything wrong then they'll find it, in the meantime just try and keep yourself relaxed!

is it bad to take pain relief pills everyday? (link)
|
I'd say yes, it is bad to take them everyday. Especially if they aren't needed because you can build up a tolerance to them and then when you really do need them they won't ive any relief!
Used over a long period they can also damage your liver and stomach, so no, don't start taking them everyday! :o)

Hey! I am 13 and I want to start using tampons. The last time I tried it hurt like hell and I couldn't get it to go in far enough. And I am using the smallest type I can find! Whats wrong? Thanks and NO Smart A**ES! THANKS! (link)
|
Hi there,
This used to happen to me too.
I didn't like the idea of using towels cos personally it makes me feel kinda gross!!
The best way to insert one is to stand with one leg up on the toilet seat and push it up diagonally towards the small of your back.
If you still have trouble inserting it hen (and I know i's kinda yuk but it works) lubricate the outside of the tampon slightly then insert it with your finger.
I would also recommend you relax (I know it's not easy) because if you are tense then so will your vaginal muscles be and this will make it virtually impossible to put a tampon in.
Good luck next time your period comes around!!

Best thing you can do if you are at work and can't get to a vhemist is drink a glass of MILK!
It a natural alkaline and neutralises anything acidic!!!
