I have a 1997 Hitachi Model No. 6OUX54B if it'll help any. My dell is Dimension 1100/B110 system model DE051. I was wondering if it was possible to connect the two together. I have looked and cannot see proper color ports for the RGB plugs, and this cord was bought without instructions as to which one is which. So, I was wondering if they are compatible to add together, or will I need to purchase a different cord? Thanks for your time and help.
Also, would a DVD player be capable of transferring the picture? I noticed my DVD player had RGB hookups. (link)

Hi there,
The DVD player's video ports are OUTPUT ONLY; so plugging an input in there is a really bad idea.
The rest of your question I can't really answer without seeing the ports on the back panel of your Hitachi television.
I am going to guess that at the very least it will have an s-video port. With that in mind, please check out this PC to TV adapter (also called VGA to TV adapter:)

... for the simplest way to get this done.
If your TV has component video inputs, and you want to spend the money, there are other adapter boxes which will do that as well.
That is about all I can tell you without all the info about ports.
Here is a website with a step by step quiz to help you make the right connections:

... and here is a video tutorial that covers the common connection options:

Whoever sold you that cord didn't do you any favors. If you can return it, I would.
Have fun playing with your big screen!
P.S. Don't forget to always have a screen saver active when you are running through the TV. Screen burn can leave your TV pretty useless if you aren't careful.
