i have a horrible habit where i pull out my eyelashes/eyebrows. it's been going on for about 5 years now. these days i usually go 2 months without doing it at all & i look great; but then i like relapse & do it once & then i can't stop. like a few minutes ago i just ripped out like 20 eyelashes; & i can't take it. it's not as simple as just saying stop. i usually don't even REALIZE that i'm doing it. & a lot of people make fun of me for it; & if they ask about it i always pretend that i don't know what's going on & then i go home & cry. i've wasted too much time with this. & i know if i keep it up that they'll stop growing back one day. i look like i have a disease; & i know it's so horrible for the people who DO look like this because they have diseases; but i don't. it's not just because of how i look when i do this. i just can't take it knowing that i punish myself when somebody gets me mad or i'm bored or whatever. i put bandaids on my fingers to stop me from doing it; but it just makes everything else more difficult for me to do. PLEASE HELP ME IN ANYWAY YOU CAN!!!!! 14/f.

I have a friend who used to pick out her eyebrows. She normally gets her eyebrows and upper lip waxed once a week... but one week she didn't have time, so she started picking out the hairs herself. Somehow it became a habit, and pretty soon she had like half her eyebrows gone!

Her waxing lady solved the problem. She told her, "instead of picking your eyebrows, why not pick the hair off your lip?" And that's what she started doing. She just replaced one picking-habit with another, and this one isn't too noticable. In fact, it's a good thing, because now she doesn't have to get her lip waxed! She also picks the hair off her arms, because she's kinda self concious about having hairy arms. So she's still a "picker", but at least she's picking something that doesn't affect her appearance in a bad way.

Oh yeah, she also asked some of her friends to say something whenever they caught her picking her eyebrows. We did, and that helped. So don't be afraid to ask for help. People like "catching" people in the act, and they also like helping people... so I bet they'd be more than willing to point it out to you.
