If you know the song "Astonishing" from Little Women, then I'd love for you to give your input. I'm auditioning for drama club with that and since it's not the shortest song ever made I need specific tips on how to keep the interest of the audience.
Drama Club? Cool. What's the show?
Here are my tips:
*For starters, keep your hair out of your eyes. The audience must see all of your features.
*Keep your face lit up at all times. There is no such thing as a great actor with dull eyes.
*Before you start singing, invite your audience in. On your face, tell the audience what the song is about without speaking.
*Since this is more of a character song, the vocals should be the least of your worries. Just practice acting the words without the singing, first. The whole point is to COMMUNICATE.
*When singing, make each word different. Sing every note as if it were your last.
*The song is about 4 and a half minutes. You're going to have to shorten it. The audition panels are not going to sit through such a long song. An audition song is supposed to be no more than two minutes. I advise you to shorten it yourself, because if you don't, the audition panels will cut you off when they've heard enough. And that's embarassing.
*Get into the character's mind.
*Don't overdo the expression. Being expressive is key, but if you overdo it, you'll look silly. Never be a ham.
*SMILE!
(Rating: 5) it's Peter Pan..I don't know how to shorten it if I want the backround music, but thank you!!
