Nobody takes me seriously and they think that I'm this little kid who can't do anything right. I try so hard and have even worked loads of overtime to earn some respect but my boss still yells at me over tiny mistakes and I get treated like I'm 6 years old and don't know what I'm doing. I'm good at my job. I used to dress more flirtatiously so I changed my appearence to strictly covered officewear but that hasn't worked. I've tried everything that I can think of but it's draggign me down. Can anyone help me?
Make sure that people see you as a serious person. If people are messing around at your job, or start telling jokes, just look away and keep doing your job. If people see you as a giddy girl who runs around and flirts with the guys, then they obviously aren't going to take you seriously.
When you talk to clients, talk to them in a proffesional and serious tone. Don't be like 'OMG Gurrl love your shoes!', you know? Or when you answer the phone, if thats what is part of your job, talk in a calm and polite tone. When you disagree with someone, don't cause chaos and start cussing at the person. Take them aside and talk to them quitely.
Now, for your manager problem. Make sure that you get the things done that he require as part of your job. Forgetting a part of a task that was supposed to be completed may result in him and/or other coworkers not taking you seriously.
I'm sorry if I didn't help much, but that was the best that I could do.
Hope I helped!

(Rating: 5) Thanks. I must admit I have never flirted with or sworn at anyone, especially customers but I have joked with friends at work and forgotten tasks on a couple of occasions so I will work harder at that. Thanks.
