About Nevaeh314

Ask me about: Social Situations, Relationships, Depression, Suicide, Health, How to Deal with Loss, School, Random weird things that don't fit into any of the above ;) I think I'm pretty good at giving advice, just ask and I'll give it my best shot. I've experienced a lot of it, and I don't mind doing a little research if I haven't. I love playing piano, clarinet, in general I just love music, and I love to write and read, poetry especially, and I love mathematics, physics, and oceanography. I've been told I'm mature for my age, but I don't know, I just think that a person has to be who they are, true to themselves, and not worry about what fits into an age group. I love simply living as best as I can, working when I have to, and having fun. It's all in your perspective. Just a quote that I like "Dreams are made and broken, potentials realized and never reached, all on the breath of one phrase: It could be."

I have the weirdest phobia (Well to me) I can not swallow pills. My sister used to have trouble with it too, but she eventually got over it. My younger brother has ADD so he has to have pills so he it's no problem for him. But when I was little I had choked on something and I blacked out before it was dislodged, and even though I know it's not going to happen just because I try swallowing a pill, I still have a "pill phobia". Anyway is there anything I can do that will help me get over it. Or just ways to make swallowing pills easier? I'm almost 15, and a sophmore in high school, and I'm still telling doctors when I'm sick that I need a liquid or chewable, I don't want to be an adult doing the same thing. It's embarassing. I have friends that won't swallow a pill unless they have to, but even if it was the only way, I'd rather just be sick. So if you have tips on making swallowing pills easier or just getting over the phobia, please let me know!! Thanks in advance!
My sister has this same problem and she's 22; it can take time to get over. It is true with most pills that you're not supposed to break or crush them, sometimes they have a time-release coating on them that releases the medicine gradually into your system, and you can overdose if you crush it and lose the time-release coating. I don't think it's too big of a deal if you ask for liquid or chewable when you're an adult, but if you really don't want to do that, then you just have to set yourself to getting over the phobia. Just get a big glass of water or milk, put the pill in your mouth, and wash it down. If the pill isn't huge, just tell yourself that you've swallowed food chunks bigger than that, and that it's not going to get stuck, and you'll be fine. Just remember not to panic or freak out as you're swallowing it, because that makes your throat contract and you'll feel like the pill is getting stuck. Just relax, and it'll slip right down. Oh, yeah, one more thing, don't take the pill with orange juice or grapefruit or anything citrus, because it lessens the effectiveness of most medicines, and in some cases can cause dangerous interactions. Hope this helps! Good luck!
