Hey, My name is Mandy Marie. I'm an Australian and always will be one. I still own the accent, but I live in the US. I recently just moved from Miami Beach to New York City. My parents are always smoking and i hate the small of smoke!! They are always smoking and I don't know how to stop them!! I have tryed talking to them and it doesn't help!!! Please help me!!!
Your parents know how bad smoking is for their health, but try to understand that it is an addiction. They are entitled to make their own decisions and do what they want. It's very hard to quit smoking, and if they have never made an effort to try and stop you should push them into that. It's great that you want them to stop, but there is really nothing you can do. It has to be on their action alone. And talking only gets you so far.
I see why you would be upset, they are not respecting you. Ask them kindly if they would smoke outdoors instead of inside the house. You would be better off by asking them to do that than to tell them to stop smoking all together. Make it clear that they do have that right to keep smoking if they wish, but you wouldn't like them to do it near you. I think that will make everyone be on good terms. They can still smoke, you won't have to smell it. (lol) I know you're trying to get them to stop all together, but what else could you do? If you stole their cigs they would be really upset and you might get in trouble. If all of this fails, you will just have to try and deal with it. :( Try you're best to keep your room and other areas of the house smelling clean.
Hopefully they'll listen to you. But it's always hard to get people to stop an addiction. Good luck babe!
