about

I'm a vegan. I like glam rock and androgynous males. I have two cats. they're mystical beings. I'm going to college in less than a month.

advice

ok so i wanna propose to my girlfriend of 3 years. but i have 2 questiosn.

1.what stores can you buy really good engagement rings? like i know theres kay and zales but what else?

2. what should i do to propose really cute. like i was thinkinon valentines day..or like if i did wait till next xmas eve..under amistletoe or something. something really cute or creative. thanks soooo much

talk to her best friend. even if her best friend is a man she'll have talked to him about how she really wants to be proposed to. don't follow what she's said to the tee, make it your own, but stay close to it. the most romantic way to her she's already figured out and no matter how you do it she'll be thinking of the way she's been dreaming of since 13.

I am a Junior this year and finally get to go to prom. The problem is, neither me or my parents can afford me a dress. I'm not extremely concered with how elegant it has to be. I was wondering if anyone knew of one of those "clinics" that gives prom dresses away to teens that can't afford one located in Central Illinois.
Last year they had one in Champaign, IL but I can't find any information on one.

If anyone can help me find out when or where a clinic in Central Illinois is, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

last year my school sponsored a Becca's closet, a dress drive that gave away dresses for free to anyone interested. contact me by email (petite.phoque@gmail.com) and I'll give you any details I know about this years' as I get them. we're northern illinois about 3 hours from champaign.

also, if you can't find a dress drive you can always go to a thrift store. most are still not that expensive. this year as a senior I'm planning on buying a few dresses from thrift stores and combining them to make one glorious dress ala molly ringwald in pretty in pink.

my freshman year i got accepted to one of the top performing art schools in the nation for vocal performance!! i was so excited!! ever since i heard about it ive wanted to go....My dream ever since i could remember was to be a singer...when i attended school for the first few weeks i noticed that there was a music male teacher that i would always catch looking at me....about 2 months into school, he told me to stay after class because he wanted to enter a song id written in a major record label contest. I walked into his room and he told me to sit on the piano bench and he'd be right back. So i did as he said and got my music out and waited. When he came back he shut the door and locked it he said that he locked it "because he didn't want to be bothered with the janitors" so i didn't think anything of it, kinda thought it was wierd (music rooms are soundproof) but anyway, he sat down next to me and placed his hand on my upper thigh and said im so proud of the progress your making in my class, you're deffinately going to acheive your dream and go somewhere with your talent" he put his arm around my shoulder and acted like he was grabbing my music, and he pushed it off the side on "accident" so i bent down to grab it, and as i bent down he grabbed my butt. and i told him to stop. but then he sternly said, "if you want to pass the class and win the comptetion you'll let me do what i want. Trust me, you want me on your side. I can give you everything you want." I sat back down, giving him another chance, hoping he would stop, but it just got worse as time went on. Long story short, he ended up raping me.
When i threatned him that i would tell, he just said "do you really want to leave this school?? you're parents would take you out of here and you wouldn't get ot pursue your dream anymore." and after i thought about it i realized that i wanted to be a singer more than anything else, and this school would help me out so much. So i continued to put up with it...
This situation has been continuing on and off for about 2 1/2 years now. I haven't told anyone, becuase i don't want to run the risk of anyone finding out becuase then i wouldnt be able to go to this school anymore. I just really feel like i need to talk to someone, but i don't know who to talk to. I don't feel comfortable telling my boyfriend, bestfriend, or anyone whats going on.
What should i do? I want to continue achieving my goals, and the school helps out with this alot, but at the same time i want the abuse to stop. I'm sorry this is so long, thanks so much for taking your time to help.

stopping the chain of sexual abuse is a lot more important than fame and stardom. since you're underage you can anonymously report the incidents and get him out of the school and probably a teaching career. the words he says that you'll have to leave the school are lies. your parents might remove you from the school, but it's probably for the best. there are other schools. you can always become famous, it's not just something that happens now only if you stay at this school.

my best friend was recently abused by our choir director. he stood up to him and told him to stop abusing him which was very good, but not enough. I said to my friend, "you may be strong enough to tell him to stop, but will the next boy?" and now he's seriously pursuing removing this teacher from the school. be the strong one and stand up against this guy. stop being a victim today.

I dyed my hair with permanent red dye two days ago. I had blonde & light brown highlights that were from 8 months ago (from a salon) and I figured that it wouldn't come out perfectly even since my hair's naturally almost black.

It came out with multidimensional colors... and i LOVED it. It's already fading. What's weird is; it's fading out of the blonde pieces only. (A significant part of my hair) Besides touching up the color with the leftover dye I had (I mixed it with alittle conditioner and i treat it like a hair mask every night) and using protective shampoo, is there anything else I can do to get the color to last longer? And how long until I can dye it the same color again? I'm thinking two treatments would be better because my hair was so dark.

thanks for any help!

at-home red fades badly and quickly. salon red stays for a while longer. mine has been obnoxiously red since november. if you're short on money go to a school and offer to be a test subject. if you absolutely must do at-home red then redye it and use an extremely gentle shampoo. I've been using nature's gate grapefruit and ginger. It would also help to use a natural shampoo with henna. I know lush makes one that works well.

HELLO EVERYONE! I need some help, I want to enter my school pagent but I don't know what I want to do for my talent. I don't play any instruments, but I really want to win. I want to be original though, and I know of this one girl that's going to sing, and she can sing, I can too, but i don't want to sing. PLEASE HELP ME Find something to do.

all of the following advice is coming from someone currently in a pageant:

1. you need a talent? if you don't immediately think of one you really know well you probably shouldn't enter the pageant. when I heard the announcement I thought "gee. here is a chance for me to play handbells after taking lessons for 8 years. I can try it solo! woohoo!" and so I signed up. I honestly don't plan on winning, but I'm excited to play in competition.

2. pageants are not just talent. depending on the pageant you may have to model or dance or interview or do all of those. the one I'm in has me dancing in 4 different group dances and one couple dance. I work my ass off to learn everything because I'm NOT a dancer. as for interviewing, that was included and judged in my audition. you need to have an edge that makes you completely different than any other girl. in my interview I was asked what ice cream I'd be if I was one and I said rice dream mint carob chip because I'm lactose intolerant. I also explained that the ice cream was completely allergy free and my goal in life is to make myself as perfect at communicating and being a good person to others as possible so that no one had a reason to dislike me. find out what else is involved in the pageant and realistically ask yourself if you can even do those things.

3. don't focus on winning. judges don't like it. they're looking for a humble person who'll become a leader later on NOT a pompous jack-ass.

4. be friendly. it goes a long way.

I have pale skin, usually. It isn't scary pale, its more like ivory, but when I'm in fluerescent (spelling?) lighting, I look really...sickly? It just doesn't look good. I look like a vampire, and I obviously don't like it. Plus, the entire school has fluerescent lighting, and I definitely don't want to look bad at school. My question is, is there anything I can do (makeup trick, etc) that won't make me look washed out? Thanks =]

it really helps to have a light tan. I always use a sunless tanning lotion before I go onstage in a show so that I don't look ghostly against the dark curtains. experiment to see which one works best for you.

i would really like to become a veggitarien. but i really like chicken.lol. so i dont know how to start being a veggitarien. i dont know how to still get protien. i really dont know much about it at all. i could really use some step by step help. and if anyones a veggitarien themselves i'd really love to talk to you about it. thank you.

drop everything for three weeks to see how it goes. if you can do it then keep at it. three weeks is long enough that your body detoxes and doesn't crave whatever you eliminated anymore. avoid all smells and temptation during that time. try to avoid "mock meats" if you can during this time because you won't like the sensation. it won't taste like the meat you're used to, especially chicken subs.

protein? beans. iron? spinach and beans. calcium? anything dark green and leafy.

finally, you're fourteen. if it doesn't work out you can always stop and come back to it later. I tried to become a vegetarian at 14 and stopped after about three months. at 17 I tried again and at three months stopped to go vegan because I knew three months was my breaking point the last time I tried it. I haven't had meat since april 1st last year and any animal products (intentionally) since august 1st.

Oh, it's fine.
I'm not too picky...I can go for anything except brocolli and spinach. Just nothing in particular though. I just thought that you would have some favorites.

right now my favorite (that's easily made) is sloppy lentils:

1 can tomato sauce
about 1.5 that in hot water
a few lentils (2 cups? less than that)
cayenne pepper
one onion
finely chopped carrots and spinach

then you just throw it all together and cook until the lentils are done.

recipes and me are kind of weird. I don't really use them quite a lot, but if I do I always throw in spinach. fresh. get used to it now because it's a major food. it's in almost everything I cook. tomatoes, spinach, brocolli, mushrooms, etc. they're major staples for me.

I would go on post punk kitchen if I were you and search around until you find something you might like.

I've been doing good lately..no meat for four days!!! lol
I've tried looking for that book when I went to Barnes and Noble, and I couldn't find it, so sorry if I'm bugging you.

sorry for the late response, but I've been out of town since thursday night. what kind of foods do you enjoy?

Okay, I like my guy friend alot, maybe even love, im not sure. He's always flirty and touchy feely with me, but he seems to be like that with other girls too, so maybe it's just how he is. Sometimes though I notice that when other girls are around he pays a little more attenton to me. Im not sure though, you know? So many really pretty girls talk to him, and I get really jealous. Is there anything I can do (discretley) to show him how I feel? I have to be kind of secretive because we're always around our best friends, and they have no idea I have any feelings for him whatsoever.

thanks so so much.

there are a few problems with your predicament. first, you can't show him you like him in a subtle way without every other friend of yours picking up on it. and if he doesn't pick up on it and they all do you run the risk of becoming a joke. also, if he's not interested he might subtley push you away, but you may not catch that either and become laughed at by all of your friends.

in cases such as these, you should always be direct. even if your friends are there as witnesses, they should be close enough to you that you don't care. everyone will know eventually and down the road you'll end up laughing at the whole situation if it goes badly. it's really not hard to be direct. even if you just pull him aside to tell him it's better than not telling him or being subtle. if you're older (say 16-20ish) you could even just kiss him when all your friends are together if the moment comes up.

whatever you choose to do, if you don't think it'll be awkward then it won't be.

best of luck.

Hi I'm 24 years old and I have a 7 year old daughter. I had My daughter when I was 16 and at the time was seeing this guy whao cheated on me the night I found out I was at a party and was drunk. Not that thats a excuse but this other guy had been persuing me for a while so I went home with him and we slept together. After that night my boyfriend and I kept seeing eachother he told me it was a lye he never cheated on me and ofcourse I was dumb and fell for it. Meanwhile I was already hooked with this other guy and we kept seeing eachother he new about my boyfriend and didnt care we kept it a secret til this day nobody knows we were ever together.
Well months later I found out I was pregnant. I was sure it was my boyfriends baby the other guy never came into my mind because we had only had unprotected sex once. how ever he did ask if it was his baby and I told him no. I told my boyfriend and we had the baby he was cheating on me the whole time we split up when the baby was 4 months. He has never been a real good dad he sees her once in a while sometimes he goes months with out seeing her but thats the guy she knows as her dad and loves him very much. I always have this other guy in the back of my head because my daughter looks nothing like her dad she mostly looks like me but I have always wonder it migh been a posability that the other guy could be her dad. But I didnt really remember what he looked like I hadnt seen him in years he moved away after highschool and didnt here from him since10 months ago I saw his sister she had a daughter wich when I looked at her she looked just like my daughter did when she was her age then I started really wondering then one month later I happened to run into the guys web page and I decided to contact him just to say hi I did and he contacted me bk on my web page wich has pictures of my daughter. We exchanged screen names and started chatting online the first thing he asked me was is she my daughter. I didnt know what to say but I told him theres a posability she could be and we exchanged pictures and everything my daughter looks just like him and his family theres things of her that he has thats it could only be because they were related well to make this shorter He is her father I havent told the other guy who has always thought that she was his but only because He doesnt really take care of her we havent heard or seen him in almost a year now and my number or adress hasnt changed he just doesnt care and she doesnt ask for him eighter. Anyways my daughter and this guy have seen eachther recently and now we are in a relationship and they get along great like if they known eachother forever and she adores him and he does too but how do I tell my daughter that he is her dad and not the other guy that shes always thought of her dad.
Please Help Me!!

I had a grandpa who I found out was not my blood grandpa. by then I knew him better than my real grandpa who I'd never met and he will always be grandpa pat to me just like your daughter's first father will always be her father.

I found out about my grandpa when I reached the maturity to understand complicated relationships between people. I just wouldn't have understood divorce if I had learned it at 5 or 6 and I know I wouldn't have understood or have been able to come to terms with the circumstances that led to my lack of blood grandfather. I wouldn't tell her until she starts asking questions or until she's been through middle school at least. when she can understand she will be there to hear, but not now.

I'm a 15 year old vegetarian in highschool. I'm the type of person who needs to eat food...good food...very often. I was wondering if anyone has good ideas for my school lunch

*nothing that needs to be kept cold
*low fat
*NO MEAT!!!

you should check out jennifer schmoo's blog if you haven't already.

veganlunchbox.blogspot.com

she makes lunches for her young son who used to not be homeschooled. it's more sporadic now, but the archives are golden.

I also suggest The Garden of Vegan. There's a great chapter on school lunches and most of the recipes can be tailored for lunches.

normally I just eat whatever's leftover from last night's dinner in a pita pocket. my school has accessible fridges and microwaves in every homeroom, but barely anyone uses them so I get lots of space so it might be tricky to come to me with a problem.

I recently washed my new 100% merino wool sweater and it shrunk considerably. It said to hand wash cold, reshape and lay out to dry. I put it in my washing machine (I have an HE front loading washer) on handwash cold and then in the dryer at the "no heat" selection. My question is, does wool actually shrink or will it reshape after another wash (I hand washed it and layed it out after I found out it shrunk).

Thanks

wool actually shrinks if it's bothered enough to do so. congratulations on your new teeny tiny thick sweater. next time you should follow the directions on the tag. it's not the temperature that makes wool shrink, it's the vigorous motion primarily. there's nothing you can do.

for my new years resolution, i want to be a vegitarian (not eating meat/fish, ill still do dairy/eggs).

is there anything important (health wise..or any other wise) i need to know before i begin?

sweet resolution!

big things to know:

have a dietician if you're young (under 16) or don't want to put in the work of researching how to have a balanced diet.

have multiple reasons for being a vegetarian. new year's resolutions are pretty weak honestly. you need to have back-up reasons when you fizzle out. animal cruelty, environmental impact, health, etc.

consider going further and becoming a vegan. it's not that big a step if you hack at it in little chunks at a time. when I went lacto-ovo I had veganism in the back of my mind. instead of taking a multivitamin I drank soymilk fortified for vegetarian kids.

I'm around all the time for miscellaneous advice and food preperation tips.

This might be a stupid question, but I haven't seen it listed...but is seaweed considered a vegetarian food? I used to live across the street from a Korean lady and she served seasweed with rice and I fell in love with it! lol

yeah, seaweed is totally vegetarian.

Does anyone know any vegetarian recipes? My New Years Resolution is to lose 30-50 pounds this year and I decided to ear healthier. And to eat healthier, I decided to do some information on vegetarianism. But I couldn't really find any real good recipes. So if anyone could find a link to it, please, copy and paste it. Please don't tell me to google it.
Thank you.

I know cookbooks.

Vegan with a Vengeance. The Garden of Vegan (or anything with Sarah Kramer). there's also a good yet-unnamed one coming out in february.

I also know tons of juicy preparation details. If you ever find a recipe that you can't figure out you can send it to me and I'll simplify it for you keeping your tastes in mind. I can also take any recipe and cut out the fat for you. I've been vegetarian since last April and vegan since August. My recipes are almost all vegan, but I know some vegetarian foods.

Final suggestion. Don't just do it to lose weight (because initially you'll gain weight, but you'll end up losing more and being healthier in the long run). If you feel like being a vegetarian load yourself up on information because you're going to get a lot of shit that will make you feel really bad. You might not want to be a vegetarian anymore, but if you constantly alternate between hard vegetarian things (like videos about the food industry and books) and fun vegetarian things (like making 8 bathces of brownies in a day to perfect your recipe like I did yesterday) you'll do fine.

I'm reading this Book Called The Stanger (L'strange) And i have to make a brochure for it, it can be about anything, but has to summarize the book, and i don't have a clue on how to do it. So go onto this website and read the summary about and please help me.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stranger_(novel)

my suggestion? read it twice.

this is my favorite book ever (and in french it's L'etrange, not L'strange). Camus is a genius. if you haven't finished it you really have to. twice.

the first time through is a serious mind-fuck. it's short enough to read twice. just do it.

now. the book is really subtle. there's a lot of ways to go, but it depends on class. If I were doing this project for European History I'd focus on french existentialism and its roots and how social stratification forced the narrator to kill the arab. but I wouldn't touch on that for an english project at all. for english I'd dig in and discuss why Camus never shows any emotion in the narrator, how you have to project yourself onto every situation and how frighteningly human you have to make yourself. you end up choosing to kill the arab. it depends on the class it's for.

hey so i have a mac laptop .. it's brand new. like the day i got it i had a problem... i downloaded an AIM version for my mac. i downloaded the version 4.7 and SO MANY times it quits out of AIM and says it closed out unxpectedly though nothing else was harmed. it signs me off so many times and i lose my information and it's so annoying. i uninstalled it and reinstalled it but still i'm having this problem. any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks so much

your laptop should come with a program called iChat. search for it in Finder. it's slightly different than AIM, but it allows you to talk to your friends and it should work. if it doesn't then it's your ISP or connection and not the computer.

I apoligize if this is in the wrong catagory..

I support PETA's campaign, stating not to wear real fur, leather, and wool. However, I do not know if some things that I own are real leather, or just fake leather. I do not own any leather clothing, but I do have leather binders for school.

I REALLY don't want to use real leather, so I would like advice on how to tell the difference between real leather and fake leather. However, they won't tell you on the product most of the time, so I can't do that.

Thanks

I'm a vegan, but technically not because I still wear leather. However, it's all leather I bought before going vegan and I haven't bought any leather since then. only pleather. you're okay to wear leather if you bought it before you consciously stopped using it.
