alright, well. i was raised in a catholic family. we go to church every week, pray before we eat, the whole shibang. i believe in God, and love him,, but i just dont feel that "fire" for him that i think i should. how do i get it? how do i know if i really am "saved." i just really want to be close to him and to start living for him, not just myself. HELP ME! (link)
You have got a wonderful attitude. Living for God is just that...denying self. I wonder if you are drifting from God or finally ready to really know Him. Jesus says in Matthew 10:38-39 "And unless you are willing to take up your cross and come with me, you are not fit to be my disciples. If you try to save your life, you will lose it. But if you give it up for me, you will surely find it."

It sounds like you are willing to do that. As you step out into faith and follow God's plan for your life the spark that is kindling in you right now will grow into a blaze.

However, to enter into that kind of relationship with God, one must repent and give one's heart to Him. Being saved is accepting His Son Jesus as your Savior. Jesus is God's gift of grace and the doorway to knowing God the Father. "How do I know I'm saved?" is a frequently asked question. Here is an answer I gave someone else not to long ago:

Romans 8:16 states that; "The spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children." So the first answer to the question of how we know is that the Spirit of God is the one who testifies to us that we are saved. It is not for people to give assurance of salvation, neither is it someone to simply convince themselves that they are saved. It is the work of the Holy Spirit that bears witness with our spirit that we are saved.

The next question should be; how does the Spirit bear witness with our spirit? Ephesians 2:8 tells us "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is a gift of God..." Faith is the avenue by which a person is saved and it is faith that is produced, by the Spirit, when He testifies that we are God's children (Rom. 10:17). Therefore, we know we are saved because the Spirit of God testifies to our spirit that we are God's children and faith is produced in us.

What is faith? The Bible gives us the definition in Hebrews 11:1 "Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." So, what the Spirit produces in us when He testifies to our spirit that we are God's children, is a certainty that even though we do not see the full reality of being children of God while we are on this earth, by faith we have an internal confidence that we belong to God. That internal confidence comes from the Lord and that is what we should count on to know that we are saved. If someone lacks that confidence they should seek the Lord to produce that in themselves.

I feel like I'm more spiritual than Religious. My family is of the Christian faith. I'm not sure that I'm that religious. I believe in horoscopes (don't judge me) and the power of herbal healing and I feel like I'm more intouch with my spiritual side. Then again, I feel bad for being like that because I'm afraid I'm going to go to hell for not being that religious. I just feel guilty.

What are y'alls opinions on this?
What should I do? (link)
Let's define spiritual vs. religious. Religious is something you do over and over again. I can be religious about washing my car, but washing my car is not going to get me to heaven any more than religious church stuff. When religious is refered to in a "God" sense, it usually means man-made traditions which mean nothing in the light of eternal salvation. Salvation is through Jesus Christ and ONLY Jesus.

Being spiritual means a lot of different things these days. If being spiritual is anything other than the worship of God through His Son Jesus, it's serving a false god. One must be careful not to mix the truth of Christ with false things of this world.

Having said that, let's address where you are. You said that you ask God for guidance every night and nothing seems to be happening. First of all I want to commend your faithfulness in seeking God. God is ALWAYS interested in the heart of a person especially the seeking heart. We as humans tend to think that if God doesn't answer in the way we think He should, He's not answering. Done this a lot myself. But from what you said, I see a LOT happening. You may be confusing guilt with conviction. What you are feeling may be God convicting your heart to seek His way...His plans for your life. Do you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior? I grew up in a religious home too with parents who called themselves Christians, but I didn't find Christ as my Savior until I was older. True spirituality is found in Christ first, then we are able to discern the expression of that spirituality in a way that pleases God.

My advice to you is to keep asking God for guidance, but along with that, ask for understanding. If your thoughts are mixed up and you're not sure if what you are hearing is from God or not, here is what you do...you compare it to the Holy Bible. If what you hear or think contradicts what the Bible says, it's not true.

If you position your heart to be open to truth, I have no doubt you will be given what you seek.

I’m 14, and I’ve been having some serious issues lately.

First of all, ever since the beginning of September, I’ve been feeling drained and empty, and all of my energy has disappeared. The only way I can move is to force myself to move; my limbs feel numb, like they’re just filled with water. My period hasn’t come for 2 months. All of my emotions are gone. I never feel happy, I only feel relieved. I don’t feel any other emotion except for sadness and extreme loneliness. Whatmore, my sense of compassion is gone, and I can’t seem to know the difference between right and wrong. I hear about brutal murders, and I don’t feel that they are bad. I remember when I was taught the importance of being a good person, but I don’t see why I should anymore.

I can feel the evil taking over me, and there’s still a little bit left in me to fight against it. My mind is engaged in fighting the evil 24/7, and because of it, I can’t eat, sleep, or do work. If I relax, I know that the evil will completely take over my mind, and I will become a criminal/human monster. Whenever I hear of a murder, I picture myself as the murderer, but the good side of me fights the evil.

Sometimes, I have an urge to do very evil things. But that little bit of sanity holds me back. I have never done anything remotely evil, though.

I know that if I let the evil consume me completely, then my life will be ruined. I will turn into a criminal or something equal to that, and everything that I’ve worked for for the first 14 years of my life will be gone.

I am not a Christian, but I believe in evil. The only thing I want right now is to know the importance of being a good person…….I don’t see why I should be a moral person right now, but I know that if I become a good person like I was before, I will definitely live a better life and be a happier person.

Seriously, I’m not an emo or anything. But how can I protect myself from the evil and become a good person again? I don’t mean by doing good things….I already do good things for people to mask my evil, but I still have evil in my brain. How can I get rid of the evil and become a genuinely good, compassionate person again? How can I re-learn compassion? I will do anything to get back to the way I was before.

What you are experiencing is spiritual warfare...the kingdom of darkness wants to keep your soul. I can tell you that being a good person won't save you from this. You need Jesus to save you. He loves you so much and wants you to choose Him to be Lord and Savior of your life. He is the only answer.

The Bible is the word of God. It's Truth. Let me ask you some questions: Have you ever stolen anything regardless of value? Have you ever hated someone? Have you ever lied? The Bible says for ONE sin...that's ONE only one sin....you are on your way to hell. If you were honest with your answers to those questions, you know you have sinned at least once. But the Bible also says that if you put your faith in Jesus and trust Him as your Lord and Savior, you will be forgiven. I'm not talking about religon. I'm talking about a relationship with God.

Get yourself a Bible or download one from the internet and start reading in the book of John. http://bible.com Read out loud...the evil around you can't stand it. Cry out to Jesus. He will hear a seeking heart.

I am very confused about religion. My family is Christian and believe in God, but aren't too religious. I was never told to believe in anything.

I believe in God. BUT I also believe in Karma. Is there any sort of name or religion for that? they are two different beliefs and religions, but I believe in both.

(link)
Confusion comes when people lump Christianity in with "religions". Being a true Christian means a person has a relationship with the one true God through His Son Jesus. Being religious means a person does something over and over again. The relationship with God through Jesus is the key because without it, anything a person does (that includes praying, going to church, and ect.) means nothing in the light of eternity. Jesus is the only way. John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth, and the life!" Jesus answered. "Without me, no one can go to the Father. (CEV)

I did feel a need to address the karma issue. But instead of offering my advice, I thought it best to offer the words directly from the Holy Scriptures. So before you get wrapped up in the "karma" bit, consider what the Bible has to say:

Jeremiah 10:2-16 "Don't follow the customs of those nations who become frightened when they see something strange happen in the sky. Their religion is worthless! They chop down a tree, carve the wood into an idol, cover it with silver and gold, and then nail it down so it won't fall over. An idol is no better than a scarecrow. It can't speak, and it has to be carried, because it can't walk. Why worship an idol that can't help or harm you? Our LORD, great and powerful, you alone are God. You are King of the nations. Everyone should worship you. No human anywhere on earth is wiser than you. Idols are worthless, and anyone who worships them is a fool! Idols are made by humans. A carver shapes the wood. A metalworker hammers out a covering of gold from Uphaz or of silver from Tarshish. Then the idol is dressed in blue and purple clothes. You, LORD, are the only true and living God. You will rule for all time. When you are angry the earth shakes, and nations are destroyed. You told me to say that idols did not create the heavens and the earth, and that you, the LORD, will destroy every idol. With your wisdom and power you created the earth and spread out the heavens. The waters in the heavens roar at your command. You make clouds appear-- you send the winds from your storehouse and make lightning flash in the rain. People who make idols are so stupid! They will be disappointed, because their false gods are not alive. Idols are merely a joke, and when the time is right, they will be destroyed. But you, Israel's God, created all things, and you chose Israel to be your very own. Your name is the LORD All-Powerful." (CEV)

How can I have confidence...because i want to be able to talk in front of my class and do all the stuff and go t the mall without worrying waat ppl think about me.......my question is How Can i get Confidence????? (link)
Since you put this in the "Spirituality" column, I am going to assume you want a spiritual answer. Here it is in a nutshell: It sounds like you have a fear of man issue, but the key is to care more about what God says and thinks than what people say and think. No one can make you feel anything without you allowing it. You have the control to walk up to people and start a conversation or stand in front of your class without worrying about what they think. It's when you give them the control do you find yourself in the postion to worry.

If you have a relationship with God through His son Jesus, you can rest assured in Him. Be courageous. Courage does not mean you won't feel afraid. You may feel nervous. But rather courage is stepping out in spite of the fear. And no matter what happens, give the results to God.

I'm totally lost in the types of Christianity there are. I know I believe in God, and the fact that Jesus died for us to get into Heaven. But what I do not understand, is what exactly God did, and what exactly Jesus did to get crucified in the first place.

Also, I was wondering if someone could explain the differences in denominations for me, or give me a link to a site that can do so. Thanks so much. (link)
Christian literally means "follower of Christ". God created people in His own image to be His companions. When Adam and Eve (the first people) chose to disobey God and listen to the devil, the entire creation including humans fell under the curse of sin. God told Adam and Eve that if they ate from the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil they would surely die. Adam and Eve ate from the tree. Did they die? Yep. They didn't physically drop over dead at that moment, but they started to age and the life in them that bound them to God, died. And every person since then is born with a sin nature. But God loved the world so much that He sent Jesus at the perfect time to be the perfect sacrifice to win back the souls of humans. Jesus did nothing wrong to deserve death. It was His love for each person that held Him to the cross. God gave people a free will and that free will gives every person a choice to accept the sacrifice or not. God the Father made a way for people to have a relationship with Him again and Jesus' life was the payment. Although Jesus died so we could go to heaven, not everyone including some who call themselves Christians, accept that. Demons and the devil believe there is a God and that Jesus is the Son, but they will not be in heaven. Being a true Christian goes beyond believing that God and/or Jesus exsists. Being a true Christian means accepting the gift of Jesus' sacrifice in a personal way. Some call this being born again, others call it having a regenerated spirit, but whatever you want to call it, it's having a personal relationship with God through Jesus. It's relationship not religious do's and don'ts.

As far as denominations...What I explained above is the bases of true Christianity. Different denominations have brought in man-made traditions, rituals and who knows what. Much of it is not based on the Bible. Someone mentioned Jehovah Witnesses. Jehovah Witnesses are not at all Christians. They don't even claim to be Christians. I don't know what sort of church atmosphere you're in, but I encourage you to question everything you're taught. Ask the pastor/priest where in the Bible it says what they are teaching. Someday when you're standing before God, God is not going to accept the excuse that someone taught you wrong stuff. You need to take the responsibility to find out the truth based on the Word of God. Asking these questions here is a wonderful start. Good job! Keep asking, read the Bible, and know what the Bible has to say.

Okay I am 15 and I am very devout, although I'm catholic I follow the belifs in general of Chritianity. I have had a connection with God. This year it was on and off all the time. In may I went to Quebec and Saw the Basillica of Saint Anne de Beaupre(people claim its were heaven and earth meat) and upon entering the church, I felt something and upon entering the main part of the church I felt something and I felt a strong connection to god. Since tyhen the connection is lost. I feel empty now unless in a sancutary. Do any of you (christians only please) know how I can streghten my connection with god> (link)
Faith isn't about fuzzy feelings. Does that happen? You bet it does, but if those feelings aren't there, that doesn't mean God has left. If you have faith in Jesus, knowing Him as Lord and Savior of your life, you have a connection with God whether you are in a sanctuary or not. That faith in Jesus is the connection not the feelings. How do I know that? It says in the Bible:

John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Faith is taking God at His word no matter how we FEEL.

Jesus said in Matthew 7:24-25: "Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock."

I know taking God at His word is easier said than done. That's because we have an enemy of our souls that constantly tries to get us off track.

At some point in the past, the devil placed a thought in your mind to doubt that God is near you. Then you chose to believe the devil's lie. I know this because the devil does this to ALL believers. I'm willing to bet the lie spoken in your thoughts went something like this....."You don't have to read your bible today." or maybe... "Are you sure you have a connection with God?" or maybe even this one... "Since you can't FEEL God, He must not be there." The list of deceptive thoughts the devil uses can go on and on. When the devil throws one of those lies at you, resist it and chose to take God at His word. The Bible says:

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

That doesn't mean the devil won't come back and try again. When he does, just resist him again. The devil can't stand it when we read the Bible and pray. So read God's word...out loud is best, and pray. Remember, praying is a conversation with God. By all means tell Him your cares and concerns, but also be still and listen. Feelings come and go, but you can always count on Jesus because He never changes:

Hebrews 13:8 "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."

ive been a christian my entire life up until now, jsut before my whole life i gew up in the church, and thats how i was taught. now that im older i started to look into spirituality a little deeping and ive found that what i belive isnt really christianity. im going on a mexico missions trip with my youth group in a few weeks, we're goign to tijuana to build houses and work with teh kids. i've been twice, and its always a erally spiritual experience, i guess im kind of scared that i will fall back into how i was before, just because of all the pressure from everyone else, how do i stay clear from this, without not going on the trip? (link)
You said that as you were looking into spirituality deeper, you found that what you believed ended up not really being Christianity. I'm curious....what were you taught?

I have no specific question for you, but I just wanted to tell you that reading your advice to other people has been a great encouragement to me. So thanks, and keep it up. =)

Thank you so much! I appreciate your taking the time to write me with that encouragement! You ever need anything, just let me know. :o)

I have been feeling kind of down latley and just miserable. i feel like i have no friends and no life. i dont have the life that most teens my age have like partying and just having fun..most of my time i sit at home..i am very insecure about myself and i wish i wasn't. i feel as if i dont love myself but i wish i did..i believe in God but i dont go to church because i moved to a different town 2 years ago that i dont really know anything about. But i do watch several sermons on T.V. everyday. I just want to know any uplifting passages/verses from the bible you know..or passages/verses that have to do with being proud of yourself and appreciating your life or any other good passages/verses you think i might need>thanx soo much for reading..please help me out i need som guidance... (link)
Others may advise you to run after outward things like activities and people, but unless you take care of your spirit first, those things will mean nothing. The fact that you are seeking guidance from the Bible tells me you realize there is more to life than shallow relationships and temporary good times; and there is. God has a special purpose for your life and He wants you to seek Him with your whole heart so He can reveal to you what that purpose is.

Take this opportunity to seek the One who can give you life. Read the book of John and pray for understanding. That book is a good foundation to knowing what Jesus has done for you and how you can know Him personally.

I can relate to the insecurity issues. As a young girl, I turned to every worldly escape I could find, but nothing filled the hole. It wasn't until I made Jesus Lord of my life did my life have meaning. Only He can fill the emptiness.

You obviously are on the right track by desiring guidance from the book of truth. As you open your heart to the Lord, I promise He will meet you where you are.

i am very perplexed. i attended a christian school since i was kindergarten and i already accepted Christ as my Lord and Saviour. but i'm moving to a new school this year, a catholic one. but since i'm not baptized christian, and i was baptized catholic when i was a baby, so i'm technically a catholic.but since i'm not baptized christian, people will never think i'm christian.so people will really think i'm catholic because i was baptized and i have certificate as proof. i need help because i dunno should just go on prtending i'm a catholicwhen i'm really not. i really dunno what to do. sorry if its a bit confusing but pls. help.

Maddie (link)
Maddie,
First of all, never pretend to be something you're not. Christian means "follower of Christ". If you accepted Christ, you ARE a Christian. Since you know Christ as your Savior, you know that belief in Christ alone is the answer. Being baptized as an infant isn't even Biblical. It's a church tradition that misleads people into thinking they're saved. The act means nothing and the certificate means nothing. Don't take my word for it....look in the Bible. There were no babies baptized. The children were blessed, but not baptized.

I encourage you to seek the Lord about being baptized now as a Chrisitan. Biblical baptism is about coming to a place of repentance before God through accepting Christ. (Which you have done) THEN, once a person knows Jesus, it's an outward acknowledgement of that belief.

I also want to encourage you to question everything this new school will be teaching you. Compare it with the Bible. If the teaching can't be found in the Bible, it's a false teaching.

In the Bible doesn't it say that we shouldn't pray aloud to show off? That instead we should pray in the privacy of our own room? (not the exact words) If that is so then why do people go to church? I'm christain but I don't believe that going to church makes a difference in how we are seen in God's eyes. Everyone pressures me to go to church saying that it will "lead me in the right direction" but I don't think it matters if I go to church or not.

Does it matter?
(link)
Praying aloud....I think you are refering to Matthew 6:5-6. Jesus addressed issues of the heart constantly and this is a heart issue regarding pride not an issue of whether to pray in church or not.

You're right that in God's eyes going to church or not going to church makes no difference.....when it comes to salvation. Salvation is by GRACE ALONE and not by good works, praying, or going to a church building. However, you won't grow in the faith if you don't interact with other Christians AND you are taking away the pleasure and joy for other Christians to interact with you. Think of it this way: There's a roaring campfire. You are one of the logs. What happens if your log is taken out of the fire and laid aside? Not only will that log eventually go out, the fire itself has to work harder to keep going.

From your question, I sense you are really struggling with this. Perhaps the Lord is convicting your heart? Is your log going out and you're turning cold? If everyone is pressuring you to go to church because it will "lead you in the right direction", do they see you going in a wrong direction? I'm not attacking you...just want to give you some things to think about.

ohkay, everyone is telling me that the world is going to end in 4 days (6-6-06) (the devil's number.) I AM REALLY SCARED OVER THIS. I CAN BARLEY SLEEP. im like pettrified. is what they're telling me true or is a myth? and do you believe it? and should i be scared?

thanks guys. (link)
It doesn't matter what "everyone" is saying. What matters is what God says. God has given us His word to base things on. The Bible says in Matthew 24:35&36 "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only." Since God's Word never fails, it is clear that these people making this predition are wrong. I hope you find comfort in that......

However, this fear you are expressing tells me you don't know Christ as your Savior. If you did, you would know that those who know Jesus will spend eternity with Him. My advice is to take this eye opening experience to search yourself and really question where you are and where you are going. Seek the Lord Jesus with all your heart by reading the Bible and praying for understanding....that is where you will find your true comfort.

I'm so messed up I'm agnostic thinking about turning back into a christian or turn into an athiest.. I'm so scared if I turned into an athiest I'll go to hell If there really is a god... If I turn into a christian I'll be believein in something that may not be real? I cried about this.. Should I just turn into an athiest and if there really is a god go to hell for it.. Or should I turn into a christian and believe and god and maybe go to heaven if god is real? (link)
The fact that you cried and are obviously struggling with this tells me you are in a battle for your soul. To be atheist, you would have to believe that there is no God at all. You would have to believe there is no absolute truth. Your question sounds like you know there is a God and you know there is absolute truth, but the battle to find that truth is getting hard. Don't give up the fight. If it's getting hard, it means you're getting close to knowing truth.

Since you mentioned "turning back into a Christian", I am going to assume you were a Christian at one time. If that's the case, you know there really is a God and there really is absolute truth, at least intellectually you know that. But perhaps you haven't opened your heart to it and you are in fear of facing God. Let me assure you God forgives those who come to Him with a repentant heart. But the key is REPENTANCE.

So many people believe God will just forgive because He loves everyone and wouldn't send anyone to hell. God does love.....He proved that when He sent His only Son Jesus to take the punishment for our sins; a punishment we could never ever pay because the debt is to much. But God is also a just God. Anyone who does not accept His gift of grace will bear there own punishment in the end which is hell.

Would a judge in the U.S. court system let a criminal go with no punishment? If he did, he would not be just. How many people would raise there hands in a courtroom and offer to take the criminal's place -- take his/her punishment? If someone actually did offer to take the punishment, how many criminals would say to that person who raised their hand, "No thanks. I want to bear my own punishment." Yet this is what people do when they turn their backs to God's gift of grace. We are all sinners and need a Savior. God has made a way. All a person has to do is embrace it.

I'm not here to "push" my Christianity on you. I just want to encourage you to keep seeking. The Bible says in Luke 11:9-10, "And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened."

I apoligize if this is in the wrong catagory. I was not sure what this would be considered as, but here is my question: I'm 16/f and I am unsure if I should go out with this guy. I am a devoted Christian and I pray for God to help me through a lot of this. But I am still unsure. I always give people a chance, because I believe that you can't really judge someone until you know them. Well when I met this guy he asked me out, but my other friend tells me he does drugs, he smokes, and he has this "bad boy" reputation. He's a really sweet and caring guy. And I kind of like him. But I don't want to end up going the wrong path if I am with him. And he's 16/m. What do you think I should do in this situation?

If you need more information about this situation you can e-mail me at xxmcrfan15xx@yahoo.com. Thank you in advance.

And I am sorry it's a bit long. I tried making it as brief as possible! (link)
Nope. This is the right catagory for this question. The Bible doesn't say not to date, but I can tell you there WILL be temptation to head down the wrong path. Once you agree to date him (or anyone) you will find it harder to hold to your Christian principles.

My son had the same concern and was asking the same questions you are. He read a book called "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" by Joshua Harris. It changed his entire outlook on the whole dating thing. Give it a try. You will get a godly perspective on dating.

My godmother (who is actually younger than I) asked my fiance to be her baby's godfather. I knew that her other child's godmother was her sister-in-law. Well, my godmother was with us at his birthday party and she told him that her orginal choice had turned him down. And then her proceeded to ask him in front of me if her second choice (a close friend of ours) should be god mother. I was so upset that it was all I could do to not cry at the table.
He said that she needed to pray about it and talk to Father. So essentially, he didn't bring me up either, but knew I was visibly upset. He tried to talk about it with me after the party, but it just made me cry...a lot.
What is wrong with me? I can't believe I am acting so selfishly. I don't want to beg to be godmother, I don't want to tell my fiance that he can't be godfather. I asked her in general why she wouldn't pick a couple. She said she wanted someone loving and nurturing and motherly. And apparently I am chopped liver. I shouldn't have said anything. I should have just gone to the bathroom.
So now I am going to have to go to the Baptism and not cry. It is going to be one of the hardest things ever.
I don't know what to say to her, but she is helping me with my wedding. And I cannot feel this way for any more time. It hurts very badly. I really wish she hadn't brought it up in front of me.
If this seems a little weird, it gets better. Her husband is also my fiance's godson (he joined the church as an adult like I did). So we got some serious oddness going on. (link)
Think about this for a minute....Where in the bible does it talk about god parents? Where in the bible does it mention babies being baptized? There were no babies baptized in the bible. The bible says in Mark 16:16 "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved......" It does NOT say whoever is baptized and then maybe believes sometime later.

One might ask, "Then what if a child dies before they are baptized?" The bible says in Mark 10:13-14 "And they were bringing children to him (Jesus) that he might touch them,......."Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God." God cares for children until they are old enough to understand what belief means. Then they need to make a choice as laid out in Mark 16:16. Infant baptism is not biblical. It's a manmade church tradition that has people under the misconception that if a person is baptized as a baby, they have an automatic ticket into heaven when they die and that is just not true.

If you are a bible believing Christian who truly wants to follow God's way and not the ways of man, consider it a blessing that you weren't asked to participate in it.

how do you know if you're a true christian? i mean, i believe in God and that Jesus died for our sins and i go to church and pray every night, but i also lie frequently and stuff, and sometimes i feel like, intimidated by God?idk, its weird. but sometimes i get scared about like, revalation and stuff and i feel like theres a chance i wont go to heaven, even though i deffinetly believe in God and im not sure if i'm really a christian. can someone help ?

Christian literally means "follower of Christ". A true follower of Christ knows Him. Because he/she knows Christ, he/she is saved from his/her sins and will spend eternity in heaven.

Loong so i'll give you 5 for answering..

I believe in God and Jesus and all that other stuff.. I'm a Christian and go to church religously [no pun intended lol]

well i've been reading those Left Behind books and it got me thinking.. There is a priest in there who was left behind in the rapture because he believed in God but it's almost as if he was ashamed of it kinda and didn't want people to know. And i feel like im the same way.

I mean people know i go to church and believe in God but i do alot of bad things [nothing sexual] and now im scared that when the rapture comes i'll be left behind.

So can someone tell me what i can do to be a better Christian and how to get these thoughts out of my head?

I'm sorry if this confused you :[ (link)
I agree with the advice DangerWench has given and I will add this. Being a true Christian means you know Jesus as Lord and Savior. The things mentioned like feeding the poor and so on mean nothing if that relationship with Jesus isn't there. True Christians do these things because they ARE saved NOT to GET saved.

Regarding the rapture-- First of all, the Left Behind series is a series of fiction NOT the Bible. So don't take it as gospel. Personally, I look at the rapture as: If it comes before-- GREAT! But gosh darn it, I'm gonna be ready if it doesn't.

If you are scared, don't look for any old answer just to make yourself feel better. That's like trying to hold a severed finger on with a bandaid. Look for the truth. Ask yourself if your belief in God/Jesus is like knowing Abraham Lincoln (You know he exsisted and believe what the history books say about his actions and stuff) Or is like knowing your best friend (someone who you know you can go to and laugh or cry, to share your thoughts, a real living person who loves you) Judging from your question, it sounds like you have the head knowledge, but may be lacking in the issues of the heart.

The truth always hurts to some extent, but ask God to show you where your heart is spiritually. Take this time of questioning to really seek Him until you have assurance. I promise you there is freedom in Christ.
