going to hell for being more spiritual?

Question Posted Friday November 10 2006, 9:12 pm

I feel like I'm more spiritual than Religious. My family is of the Christian faith. I'm not sure that I'm that religious. I believe in horoscopes (don't judge me) and the power of herbal healing and I feel like I'm more intouch with my spiritual side. Then again, I feel bad for being like that because I'm afraid I'm going to go to hell for not being that religious. I just feel guilty.

What are y'alls opinions on this?
What should I do?

Here's a website I thought you may be interested in: www.notreligion.com

Firstly, anyone who judges you for reading horoscopes needs to read the Bible where it says we are not to be judged. I'm a Christian and I don't consider myself religious. Not just a Christian in a sense that I'm just saying that, but in the fact that I want to, I desire to win others to Christ. Why? Because Jesus Christ is the one and only way to heaven. Why do I not consider myself religious? Because to me, Christianity isn't really a religion - but more about a relationship between me and Christ. I pray and talk to him and read the Bible. I don't agree with everyone's belief that I go to church with. A person can read the same Bible scripture over and over again and each time get some different meaning out of it.

Herbal healing...I believe this is possible. Not in a Wiccan sense, but God created the earth and everything in and on it. Why wouldn't things like this work? Prayer heals.

Also, I never realized this until recently - God only hears prayers from saved people, except the prayers of salvation. I feel that you may be going through what I was a couple of years ago. If you're praying to God asking for Guidance, you recognize and conciously feel that something you believe and do is not right. No one can give you a correct answer about what is wrong and right except God. I believe God may be convicting you of some things. I recommend talking with a preacher or someone that you can trust with an open mind and open heart. You can always email me if you'd like. I'm going to be praying for you and for God to direct you accordingly.

You wouldn't go to hell because you aren't so religious. I don't mind horoscopes they are fun right? So you don't need to feel so guilty. God answers prayers like if you ask him for something there are choices Yes and No right? So those two are what He could choose out of. So He could say yes or no. I hope everything goes well for you.

You can be a christian and still feel spiritual. A lot of christians read horoscopes and believe them. I'm not sure where exactly I stand religious wise, but that's a different story. I was born and raised christian which sadly, seems to be the easiest way to go. This isn't right, and i'm very much aware. Anyways, i'm off topic.

What you are describing, (herbs, nature, etc.) sounds a lot like the religion Wicca. No, it's not all about witches casting spells on people and what not. It's a wonderful religion that's all about Karma. As in, you do good things and good things will happen to you. They as well believe in herbal powers and things.

If you pray and ask God for guidance, that my dear is a religion in itself. I would advise you to look into the Wiccan religion. It's not 'devil worshipping witches' no matter what you've heard. Just google it. I'm sure you'd be very suprised. =]

EDIT- TAROT CARDS: I honestly don't know enough about the religion to tell you. I'm sure if you'd look it up like I asked you too though, you'd get loads of info off google. try typing in,
"tarot card reading and wicca"
or something along those lines.

Let's define spiritual vs. religious. Religious is something you do over and over again. I can be religious about washing my car, but washing my car is not going to get me to heaven any more than religious church stuff. When religious is refered to in a "God" sense, it usually means man-made traditions which mean nothing in the light of eternal salvation. Salvation is through Jesus Christ and ONLY Jesus.

Being spiritual means a lot of different things these days. If being spiritual is anything other than the worship of God through His Son Jesus, it's serving a false god. One must be careful not to mix the truth of Christ with false things of this world.

Having said that, let's address where you are. You said that you ask God for guidance every night and nothing seems to be happening. First of all I want to commend your faithfulness in seeking God. God is ALWAYS interested in the heart of a person especially the seeking heart. We as humans tend to think that if God doesn't answer in the way we think He should, He's not answering. Done this a lot myself. But from what you said, I see a LOT happening. You may be confusing guilt with conviction. What you are feeling may be God convicting your heart to seek His way...His plans for your life. Do you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior? I grew up in a religious home too with parents who called themselves Christians, but I didn't find Christ as my Savior until I was older. True spirituality is found in Christ first, then we are able to discern the expression of that spirituality in a way that pleases God.

My advice to you is to keep asking God for guidance, but along with that, ask for understanding. If your thoughts are mixed up and you're not sure if what you are hearing is from God or not, here is what you do...you compare it to the Holy Bible. If what you hear or think contradicts what the Bible says, it's not true.

If you position your heart to be open to truth, I have no doubt you will be given what you seek.

Well, I'm Jewish, and my opinion is, that your religious, but you practice your religion differently. Its not bad to be in touch with your spiritual side. Don't feel guilty for nothing happening after praying for so long, most people pray, and nother ever happens. Don't feel guilty, If you've banged 250 guys, or shot someone, then you can feel guilty. ;). Spirtualness, is actual a type of religiousness beileve it or not.Hope I helped, good luck!

Hey , Darlin'.
I've tangled with the christian faith for an upwardsof 49 years now and it can be misleading. I think that it is ABSOLUTELY fine to read your horoscope, they're fun. If you start to base your life around what some loser makes up and puts in your local paper, thats a different story. You won't go to hell, well, that depends on what kind of cristian you are. Some of 'em make it seem like everyone is going to hell.

Just do what works for you.

Love,
GBL xoxo
