Do homework somewhere free of distraction. No tv, no background music, no computer (except for homework related thing). Really, focus on it.
Do as many things as you can to remember what you study. Write it down, Say things out loud, have your parents quiz you, make up a memory aid. My best method is Flash cards. Just get some plain index cards and make them yourself. They work wonders for me.
And like they said, pay attention in class. This is major. This is why I usually don't have to study much to pass my tests.
Don't blow off any homework assignments, even if you know they won't be graded. It's important. I know it sucks, but make yourself do them.
If you don't understand something, or you just need it taught to you in a different way, stay after school for help or go in during home room or study hall. Seriously, don't be ashamed or embarassed. It helps to ask your teacher. Maybe if you're not getting it the way your teacher is explaining it, go to another teacher of the same subject to get a different perspective.
Get enough sleep at night. Your academic performance improves majorly if you get enough sleep.
Eat breakfast. You will be able to focus more on your teacher and less on when the lunch bell is going to ring.
When you learn something interesting or new, tell someone about it. It will help you remember. Even if you just mention it to your mom or dad, it will help.
Repetition is key. The more you repeat something, the more you will remember it.

I basically just passed science and math last year because i did all the homework. Also, try studying like 10 mintues or so everyday. So, when it comes time for the test, you're not freaking out and craming it all night. If you have trouble remembering something, try looking it up right before the test, then right when you get it, write it down right away so you don't forget. That's about it. Try asking teachers for help if you don't understand something, or a friend. hope i helped :] [ advicer's advice column | Ask advicer A Question ]
