i've been thinking about what i want to do when i'm older and i want to do something that will help people and/or the environment.
i don't want to be a doctor or a teacher.
does anyone have any ideas of careers like that?
thanks a ton! (link)

When exploring your options for a future career, you should consider areas where your interests, your abilities, and your values meet. In this case, your values are that you want to help people or the environment. Your abilities, of course, refer to what you are good at, and your interests refer to what you would enjoy. The goal is to find careers that you would enjoy, be good at, and that would help people. Since I don't know what your interests or abilities are, I cannot pinpoint career paths that would be great for you, but I can give you some resources for researching them online.
You can start with the Bureau of Labor Statistics website or the Occupational Outlook handbook if you really want to read in depth about salaries, employment outlook, and the nature of the work.
http://www.bls.gov
http://www.bls.gov/OCO/
Another website for researching careers is Vault. It is geared toward careers that require a college degree, so it's a good place to looks if you plan on going to college.
http://www.vault.com
Depending on your interests, you can search further into different fields. Here are some examples:
Wildlife Conservation:
http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos048.htm
Counseling:
http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos067.htm
Environmental Science and Hydrologists:
http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos050.htm
Personal Care Aides:
http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos173.htm
Social Workers:
http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos060.htm
None of those may be something you are interested in, but I hope you find some useful information. In the mean time, just keep learning about yourself and keep your eyes open for different opportunities.

Definition of love?
How do you know when you are in love with somebody? (link)

The definition will vary from person to person. In my opinion, you know you're in love when you don't have to ask yourself.

I have long wavy hair and I want to cut at least three inches off so its anywhere from right beneath my shoulders to maybe a little above that...any suggestions? (visuals preferred) thanks! (link)
|
Sorry I don't have any pictures, but what I like to do when I'm looking for a new hairstyle is go out and buy a hair magazine with lots of pictures of cuts and colors that are in style right now. That way you'll have plenty of options right before your eyes. You can go through and mark the ones you like for consideration.

anybody with experience with Hydroxycut MAX please tell me your experiecne?! did it work for you? i just started using this a couple days ago and have been working out and eating more healthy. i want to lose 6 pounds in the next 2 weeks? will hydroxycut help me reach this goal? i plan to workout for about an hour a day 6 times a week. (link)
|
When I took Hydroxycut I had chest pains and couldn't stop shaking. Also, I had trouble sleeping at night. Diet pills effect different people differently, but I can't honestly say I know a soul who has lost weight and kept it off using diet pills.
If you want to lose 6 pounds in two weeks, you would have to burn 1500 more calories a day than you eat. This means the total of whatever your body normally burns in a day PLUS what you burn working out, minus what you eat should equal about 1500 calories. If you stick with that rule, you won't need diet pills.
Working out an hour a day six times a week is a LOT to start out with. Especially if you don't normally work out. Consider starting slower if you aren't already in good shape. Also, doctors suggest not losing more than 1-2 pounds per week, so perhaps you should talk to your doctor if you think you need to lose weight faster.

are there any diet pills or anything like that...that actually works and doesnt harm you?
I have been eating healthy and working out regularly and im getting no where...I just need a jumpstart or something (link)
|
I would stay far away from diet pills. They are not good for you, and not really that helpful in losing weight. Because diet pills do not have to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration, the companies that make these pills can get away with exaggerating their effectiveness and downplaying negative side effects.
You say that you've been eating healthy and working out regularly, but do you know if you are doing these things in the right amount? Try counting your calories every day for at least one week.
In order to lose weight, the amount of calories your body burns in a day needs to be more than the amount of calories you eat. So if your body burns 2500 calories in a day, and you eat 1500, you have a deficit of 1000 calories. One pound of fat contains about 3500 calories, so if you ate 1500 calories and burned 2500, you would lose a pound of fat in 3 1/2 days, or two pounds per week (which is a healthy rate for most people to lose weight at). To start out, you might try a 1600-1800 calorie diet and burn 200-300 calories three to five days a week with exercise. However, I am not a nutritionist and I do not know your condition, height, weight, or age, so I cannot give you an exact number of what you should eat or how much you should exercise. Always listen to your body and don't overdo it.
If you need help counting calories some great online trackers can be found at the following websites:

Hi ok so i am twenty three years old and i am currently going to beauty school to become a stylist. i have a loan for now to pay for school and wear i live. My parents and i have always had issues with our opinions and when we usually fight i am the one that gives in and disregards what my opinions are for the sake of staying together but for once i am at a breaking point. my parents are mad at me becuase i moved out of the apartment that i was living at for school to move in with my fiances familys house. I have my own room there and im not the kind of girl that will sleep in the same room as him because i think its disrespectful. but my parents are mad because there worried about my credit because i ended the lease early... my credit is fine my mother is very controlling and never cares to hear how i feel or what my values are she sees black and white nothing else. I am very hurt i am just trying to grow up and start my life yet she thinks i have to do everything her way and if i dont its seen as immature. I am not at all. ive paid for everything my car insurance and medical im sorry if this is confusing a little. Im just at a point where my fiances family is wonderful and i think i might be happy without my family but is it the right decision (link)
|
I understand your frustration with your family, but I do not think that cutting ties with them is the answer. It sounds like you need for your mother to realize that you are 23 and must make your own decisions. I think that she needs to understand that you have your own opinions from your own adult perspective and she cannot force you to share hers. It is very difficult to get to that point. You cannot change your mother, or anyone in your family for that matter, but they are your family. You can be part of your fiance's family as well, but it is a very different bond than what you would have with your own family.
I'm not sure how you'll get to that point with your family. That's something you will have to figure out on your own. In the mean time, just don't let them get to you. Listen to their opinions and take them into account, then make your own decision based on your own values. Eventually they should be reasonable and see that you can handle your own life and stop criticizing you.

I got my hair cut to my chin, months ago. Now, it barely hits my neck. I don't understand why it's not growing fast anymore! My hair used to grow about an inch a month and now it's taking forever. Is there ANY product that can speed up this process? Any suggestions would be appreciated. (link)
|
Here is a good article on maximizing your hair growing potential:
http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip214.htm
Since hair is composed of dead cells, nothing you put on it will make a difference in how fast it grows. If you want your hair to grow faster, you need to focus on what you put in your body. A daily multi-vitamin is a good start. Some people take pre-natal vitamins to make their hair grow faster, but I'm not sure if that's entirely valid. I take One-A-Day Women's formula. Other than that, generally taking good care of your body will help the condition of your hair and might help it grow faster. Our hair, nails, and skin are a reflection of our overall health. When you take care of your body by eating the right foods, exercising, and getting plenty of water, your hair, nails, and skin will look better.
When it comes to products, nothing you put on your hair will make it grow faster, but if you choose the right products, it can help combat breakage that might keep your hair from getting longer. Take good care of your hair, and be careful with using too much heat or excessive handling. I hope you're able to get your hair growing faster again.

(21/F) A few years ago, I had an abortion. It was during a serious relationship and I was going into college and I felt it was right due to all the circumstances. I had support from my family, but my boyfriend never knew because we split before I went through with it. Sometimes I really regret my decision, and wonder if it would have been a boy or a girl. I wonder what he/she would look like. It just hits me hard, still to this day. Deep down, I know it was the right decision but I cry alot and think about the "what ifs". Has anyone gone through this? What am I supposed to do? I don't need any lectures or personal opinions, I just need some honest help. (link)

I don't have any experience with this, but if it were me I would try some professional counseling-- not because there is anything wrong with you, but just as something to help you sort through your feelings.

I am a singer, but if I am not playing the part acting like someone else on stage, it is hard for me. I have to go on stage showing who I really am, and show my emotions through my music, but I get terrified because its like being naked in front of the world, and they can see my soul. Im the kind of person who generally keeps to myself, but my passion is to sing. I dont cry in front of people either, and singing for me is like that, because I am exposed. I dont have anything to hide, I am just causeous. Can anyone knock some sense into me per say, or knows of a way I can come out of this? (link)
|
It sounds like you might be too worried about what people think. Some people are going to like you and some people are not going to like you, but the people who would like you may never know that they would if you don't put yourself out there and display your personality openly. I find life is easier with the approach of "This is me, take me or leave me."

what are some ways the bank can mishandle you money? from credit cards or debit cards? (link)
|
I have had a bank take run a check through twice so it deducted from my account twice. I have had someone at a bank enter in a decimal place in the wrong place so that I was charged 80.00 instead of 8.00. These mistakes were both made with checks, and I caught them because they were huge mistakes. If you're worried about these sorts of mistakes, always check your bank statement that is mailed to you, or sign up for internet banking (if your bank has it) that will let you view your transactions online.
I've never had any mistakes with debit cards. They are pretty safe as long as you are careful to keep your information private and if your card ever gets lost or stolen report it immediately so they can shut it off. Also, check your bank statements to make sure there are no mysterious purchases.
Credit cards are totally different and can get you into a lot of financial hardship. But they are your responsibility if you choose to get one or more, and you need to make sure you understand the terms of your credit card.

ive been wanting a tongue piercing for about two years now. it started when i noticed a lot of people had then, and how pretty they looked. even my favourite singer of my favourite band had one.
i asked my dad a year ago, and he didnt really like the idea of a large needle going through his daughters tongue. now, i asked him again, and he still doesnt like the idea, or the idea of my enamel being chipped to death, but i think hes going to let me anyways. he just said i needed to talk to my mom.
the only problem is my mom is way hardheaded, and she and i have never had a level of communication. compared the way she was when she was my age, im a total screw-up and shes a goodie goodie.
so i caved one day and asked her. as i suspected, she wouldnt listen to a thing i said and basically said no. she said she wanted to think about it. which usually means, she'll say no. but she didnt give me a good reason. she just thinks its gross because its a wound and bacteria can collect in there and whatnot.
i wanna know how i can get her to just stop fighting and listen to me. she never ever does and im tired of it.
thanks. (link)

You'll be 18 soon enough, and then you can pierce whatever you want. Just make sure you go to a professional, and never try to do something like this yourself or let a friend who *says* they know what they're doing take a "stab" at it. Follow appropriate aftercare steps. These things are important to avoid scarring. I'm not sure if this matters with your tongue, but with any other piercings they won't likely leave a scar if they are done correctly and taken care of correctly should you change your mind. And finally, be patient. I wanted a tattoo when I was sixteen, and I'm glad my parents wouldn't sign for it, because I can't imagine having the stupid thing I wanted on my body for the rest of my life.

I have some random questions about Photo Shop...
1. Do you have to pay for the program?
2. How do you use Photo Shop?
3. How can you make special effects on pictures?
Also, Anything that is helpful about the program would be apprechiated because I know nothing about it whatsoever and would really like to learn. :)
Thank you (link)

You do have to pay for Adobe Photoshop, and it's rather expensive at a whopping $699 for the lastest version (cs4) on the Adobe website. You might be able to get a cheaper copy on Amazon.com, but I wouldn't expect to pay less than hundreds of dollars.
As far as learning to use it, there are plenty of free tutorials on the internet. Just go to Google.com and type in "Free Photoshop Tutorials" and several sites will be returned for you to choose from. There are also many books that will teach you to use Photoshop, and you can probably find a lot of them on Amazon.com as well.
There is an OpenSource alternative that is 100% free of cost called "GIMP" or "The GNU Image Manipulation Program". It is quite different from Photoshop, but can do a lot of the same things. You can download it at:
http://www.gimp.org/
You can also go to Google.com and search for "GIMP Tutorials" and find some helpful sites that will teach you to do these "special effects" on pictures. I don't have as much experience with GIMP as I do with Photoshop, but I hope this helps at least a bit!

So here's the problem. I'm really conscious of my body and all. But I'm 120 pounds and I'm 4'11! So can anyone give me tips on how to lose weight. Especially in the thighs, hips, waist and abs. Thanks in advance! (link)

Your body mass index is in the healthy range, and so you really do not need to lose weight. Love your body the way it is and stop obsessing over a few vanity pounds.

i really want to learn how to speak spanish, french, and italian.
i know some websites where it show's you the words and stuff..but does anyone know of a website where it will pronounce the word for me so that i can learn it? and it will help me learn how to say sentences and stuff? and all the correct words?
like if i want to learn how to say " Where is the restroom?" in all three of those languages, i want a website that will teach me how to say that correctly in all three languages.
thank you for all your help! (link)
| |
Rosetta Stone is an awesome computer program that will help you learn to speak a foreign language at your own pace. Unfortunately, it's very expensive. So this is where you either shell out $300 or so per language or ask yourself "How do I feel about software piracy?" You can think about it as "Well, if I went to a college and took a Spanish class, it would cost me at least that much," or you can think about it as "I don't have $300, but I still want to learn Spanish," and visit ThePirateBay.org after downloading a torrent client such as the one found at Utorrent.com... but I'm not condoning piracy, of course.

when something goes wrong between my boyfriend, M, and me, i totally lose it. i just get so depressed and pissed off and it gets on everyones nerves. the thing is, i really love him. but im so scared that if something goes wrong, ill lose him again. (he broke up with me twice before..)
im pretty sure hes sick of his high maintinance girlfriend anyways. im sick of being a naggy bitch, but i dont know what else to do. how can i talk to him about this without him thinking im totally obsessed? (link)
| |
You don't need to be worried that he's going to leave you. If you had a good relationship to begin with, you would know that he won't leave you. If he broke up with you twice, why are you still with him? You need to value yourself enough to truly believe that if he's dumb enough to walk away again, he doesn't deserve you. Also, know that you're strong enough to make it on your own if he does walk away again. Remind yourself that he's very lucky to be with someone who loves him so much she took him back twice!

Thank you so much in advance. (link)

It will be good for you to establish good habits as a young adult in nutrition and fitness. You need to establish a healthy lifestyle that you can take with you throughout your adult life. Read up as much as you can on nutrition and try to build a good foundation of knowledge for yourself. Learn about different food groups and portion sizes. Some good resources are www.LiveStrong.com or www.SparkPeople.com. Both sites have great articles about nutrition and fitness and a tool for tracking your daily foods and exercise. It's my personal opinion that you should pick physical activities that you enjoy, because that not only motivates you to do them but makes exercise fun.
There is a simple formula for losing weight. You have to expend more calories than you consume. Livestrong.com (via TheDailyPlate.com) has a calculator that will let you put in how much you weigh and how much you want to lose per week and tell you how many calories you should eat per day. When you enter exercise, it accounts for that and allows you to eat more calories. Tracking your daily calories is a good way to get acquainted with how much and just what you should be eating. Important things to consider is that, as a woman, you should never eat less than 1200 calories a day. Eating too few calories will slow down your metabolism and is counter-productive.
Whatever you do, don't follow fad diets. They are a waste of money, time, and effort, and most of them aren't very good for you. Also, a key factor to your success is having some kind of support system. Even if it's just one friend you can talk to about it, you should find a means of support.

So I made a fake myspace. But everytime I sign in, in the 'people you might know' section, it shows my REAL account. So I was just wondering if it would show that for other people too. Like if it would show my fake account with my real account or something, since I sign into both. I don't want it to be suspicious, because I'm doing this for a good purpose. (link)
|
The "People You May Know" tool on MySpace usually shows you people who are MySpace "Friends" with people on your MySpace "Friends" List. So if you have people on your Friends list on your fake account who are on your normal account, that is likely why you are showing up on your own "People You May Know" tool.
The only ways I can think of that people would find your fake MySpace and know that it is you is if there is something on that profile that would give you away. Are you using a photograph of yourself? Are you using your name? Do you have your school or place of employment listed, or is there any other indication on your page that would let people know whose page it is? If not, I wouldn't worry.

hi, i wanted to know what exercise i could do and foods i could eat to help me lose weight while not losing my butt. if anything, i would like it to get bigger. thanks so much in advance! (link)

I'm sorry to tell you that it is impossible. We can't choose which areas we want to lose weight from. We can't tell our breasts not to shrink or our waists to get smaller. Your body is shaped the way it is shaped, and you have a tendency to carry weight in the places where your genetic makeup dictates that you will carry it. We all come in different shapes and sizes, and I think the best thing for you would be to be happy with the body you have as long as you are in good health. The only thing you can do is tone your gluteal muscles, which is likely to make your behind firmer and even rounder. For full-body sculpting I recommend pilates. If you don't mind workout DVD's, look for one by Jennifer Kries. She blends pilates, yoga, and dance for a fun workout that is awesome for sculpting a lean, feminine sillhouette.
