There are many tutorials you can find online if you actually get photoshop, however I have an alternative suggestion. There is a website called picnik.com that lets you do some editing to your pictures. It is completely free to upload pictures and edit them, however certain things you have to upgrade to be able to use. The free version of the site allows you to convert your picture from color to black and white or any other color, crop, fix red eye, it includes a blemish fixer and teeth whitener, and lets you do a lot of fun effects like adding text to your pictures. NoCandy answered Wednesday March 25 2009, 12:19 am: You do have to pay for Adobe Photoshop, and it's rather expensive at a whopping $699 for the lastest version (cs4) on the Adobe website. You might be able to get a cheaper copy on Amazon.com, but I wouldn't expect to pay less than hundreds of dollars.
As far as learning to use it, there are plenty of free tutorials on the internet. Just go to Google.com and type in "Free Photoshop Tutorials" and several sites will be returned for you to choose from. There are also many books that will teach you to use Photoshop, and you can probably find a lot of them on Amazon.com as well.
There is an OpenSource alternative that is 100% free of cost called "GIMP" or "The GNU Image Manipulation Program". It is quite different from Photoshop, but can do a lot of the same things. You can download it at: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
You can also go to Google.com and search for "GIMP Tutorials" and find some helpful sites that will teach you to do these "special effects" on pictures. I don't have as much experience with GIMP as I do with Photoshop, but I hope this helps at least a bit! [ NoCandy's advice column | Ask NoCandy A Question ]
