Giving advice is sort of second nature to me. I use to have a column on here but ended up deleting it. Now once again I have decided to give advice again. I value people and their problems and try to help them the best I can.
No question is a silly question. Every question has importance. I sometimes feel like some of my questions I want to ask are viewed as pointless but have comed to realize that this isn't entirely true.
My biggest pet peeves are bad spelling, grammar and punctuation. It's silly, but I mean it's not that difficult to tell the difference between you're and your. Or even their, they're and there. No offense if you do any of this, but we learned all of these when we were younger in 5th grade (give or take).
Personally one of my favorite quote is by Eleanor Roosevelt. "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
If only people would truly realize this, the world would be so much happier.

Okay, I am know good at fashion, So I have come to my fellow Advicentors for help.
What looks better Blow drying your hair or Just letting it dry?
I personally like letting my hair air dry. My hair's texture is naturally wavy so when I let it air dry it looks wavy and beachy. On the other hand though, I do like blow drying my hair for volume and when I want my hair straight, but the thing is it takes too long for me to blow dry it, so I usually let it dry naturally.
It depends also how you want to style it. If you want waves, let it air dry. If you want it straight, I would blow dry. Sometimes you can get wavy hair with a blow dryer if you use a diffuser (special attachment).
I think it depends on personal taste, and what you thinks looks better on you. =)
I really want to lose weight. And I try to eat healthy things but it just makes me more hungry. So I end up cheating my diet. I have tried eating crushed ice and gum to keep my mouth busy but they didn't work. What can I do?? Also what healthy foods can i snack on besides fruit and vegetables??
What are some easy things I can do to burn a lot of calories and burn the fat on my stomache in a short period of time like maybe 15 minutes?? ( I dont have a lot of fat just a little toning up would make me feel better about myself) i have already tried sit-ups.
Also how can I burn the fat off of my hips and thighs??any easy, short workouts.
Thank you so much.

I'm a huge fan of eating every few hours (say like mostly 2-3 hours between meals and snacks). During the summer I'd have breakfast at like 9, have a snack at 11 or 12, eat lunch at 2, have another snack maybe at 3 or 4, and have dinner at about 7ish.
So make sure you don't deprive yourself by not eating. Eating every few hours keeps up your metabolism and will make you less hungry.
Kashi bars, cookies and crackers and really good. I've been eating apples with some peanut butter also as a snack.
Do crunches on a stability ball, easy and effective. Plus they help tone your abs. Cardio for hips and thighs. Run for like 15 minutes.
I've always wanted to be a singer and actor. i don't know where to go and/or who to ask. does anyone know how i can make it big in those? or even know where i can go or who to contact? even in modeling?
They say if you want to be an actor you should live in LA or NY (mostly LA since a lot of movies and TV shows are filmed there). And if you want to be a model you should live in NY since it's the fashion capital of the US, since a lot of designers and modelling agencies have their headquarters here. (A lot of people say this) For the acting it might help if you become a movie extra first to see if you really want to become an actor (and it'll help you learn what goes on with filming).
There's this website that gives you a lot of information on how to achieve becoming both a model and a movie extra, and how to get an agent for becoming an actor.

A lot of actors also got started as models, and then became actors. Just so you know. Don't give up at all too, if you want to do any of those things. You have the try and try again. Rejection is something I think all actors, models and singers alike have faced at one point in their careers. So never give up.
I hope this helps you. :)
Im going to a private school next year for the first time, and i have to wear uniforms which is basicly a skirt and a collored shirt. We have to have our socks showing, but not like all the way to our knees. My question is, what do people usually wear for shoes?! I wanted to just wear flats, but socks with them would look pretty weird. And i dont want to wear tennis shoes because that would look ugly. They say the color has to be black brown white or blue... and i have no idea what people wear! any help!? I start school Monday.
Try Mary Jane shoes. They're pretty cute and would look good in a uniform outfit.

You could look online for cute sneakers too, which would be an added plus since they'd be comfortable. Puma has cute sneakers. Vans slip-ons would be good too.

During the winter in my school (I got to a private school too so our uniforms are basically the same) we always wore Uggs with our uniforms so people still do that. (I saw one of the people below me mentioned Uggs) So Uggs are a good possibility. You could even wear the crocheted ones depending on where you live since the classic short sheepskin boot might be too heavy or warm.

If I were you I'd go with sneakers like the Vans slip-ons, or even regular sneakers and the Uggs. They'd probably be more comfortable through out the day.
What is Soho? (in NYC) I've heard of it but I'm really not sure what it is. Why do people say to "watch your purse" when in Soho?
SoHo is basically one of the district in New York City. SoHo stands for South of Houston Street. (Just like NoHo is North of Houston). Basically like someone said before me, SoHo is a place where people go to in NYC to find anything and everything from clothes, jewelry, handbags and shoes, to artsy stuff. It is really nice to go shopping in SoHo. There's great stores there, where you can find great things.
People probably say "watch your purse" in SoHo because since it is New York, and I hate stereotyping, that people can mug you. I've lived in NYC all my life, and have never gotten mugged but there's that possibility of course. When someone says that they're basically saying that you should be careful since there are people out there that will try and take your bag to get your money and all. I've been to SoHo before, and that's never happened to me personally. Basically you should watch your bag though everywhere you go in the city (Manhattan), since you never really know who is out there, and what they're going to pull. Get what I mean? But the chances of that happening are slim to none.
Sorry this is my third question. Because I am so light when getting my period, I had bought Tampax Pearl Multi-pack because they come with lites. But this is uncovienent because I never use the other ones, however, there is not Tampax Pearl Lites sold sepearatly! When i went online I saw that they did have Tampax Lite Cardboard. Should i sue the carboard ones..or will they be to uncomfortable to insert?
Even though Tampax changed the cardboard applicator, they still do hurt inserting them. It's somewhat uncomfortable to insert the cardboard ones.
But I actually had the same problem you had with finding Tampax Lites in a seperate box, since I always bought the Multi-Pack for the lites (and other 2 absorbencies) but I actually found that they do sell Tampax Pearl Lites in a seperate box. The box contains 18 of them. I found them at Target actually. So I'm pretty sure if they had them Walmart will probably have them. I know where I live, the supermarket chain Pathmark sells them so try some supermarket chains too. You actually have a better shot looking in there for them.
So not worth getting the Tampax Lite Cardboard, so try finding the Tampax Pearl Lites.
Good luck. :)
So I'm gonna be a junior in high school next year, and that means that I'm gonna go to prom. usually, most girls are looking forward to prom, right? Well not me, I'm already really worried that I won't have a date. I know it's silly, but since I'm really shy and have never had a boyfriend, I'll be going to prom alone and feel like a total loser while all my other friends have dates. I have guy friends, but none that I could really ask because THEY TOO will probably have dates/girlfriends to go with. Ahhhh I'm freaking out about this, prom is supposed to be the best night ever and I'm worried I'm gonna have a terrible time. So what I'm asking is, what can I do if I don't have a date while all my friends do? I wouldn't feel as weird if I were going with my friends, but because they're all flirty and confident, they'll probably have a lot of people asking them to prom. But I don't want to feel lonely and desperate and get turned down by a bunch of guys that already have dates.
And how can I stop obsessing over this problem, because I'm not even a junior yet?! Thanks for anyone who attempts to answer this ridiculous question, but the way, haha. Peace out.
I totally know what you're going through since I am going through it. I'm going to be a junior, and since like May or April I had a few friends freaking out already about junior prom, that was a year away from then. All of them were worried they wouldn't have dates.
Me and my one friend promised each other if we don't have dates, we'll hang out at prom and dance anyways, not caring who out of our friends had a date or not. See if maybe there's a friend of yours that is thinking the same thing you are. The one thing about my friends is that half of them are totally obsessed with the fact that they need to have dates, even if they don't.
I wouldn't be too worried about it though. I mean it is a year away (like the person below me said), so you have plenty of time to see if maybe you'll get a date by then. If anything you can always go by yourself, and have a great time. A girl who is turning a senior said prom was overrated really, and totally not worth having a date since you're suppose to "save that" for senior prom.
Just wait and see what happens. Don't try to think about prom too much. You'll probably find out that a lot of people are in your position. I am not for nothing, and know what it feels like to totally go through that phase of, "I hope I have a date, I'll look like a total dork if I don't have one since I'll probably be the only one without a date". Don't think about it like that! Think I'm going to prom to have a good time with my friends, and who cares what other people think if I'm by myself.
It's totally normal to be going through what you're going through, but probably by the time prom is over, you'll be like why was I so nervous about that? It'll end up turning into one of those things.
I hope this helps you, and good luck. :)
well...im 17 and female just joined this as I really need help with the way i'm feeling at the moment!
At the end of last year I started seeing this guy, we wer together up untill the end of March this year, the relationship ended bcoz i felt he was making no effort, like he would never fone me, text me, or invite me over to his place!
I was gettin really annoyed thinkin he wasnt interested in me and didnt want me to meet his parents, I asked him about it and he said he didnt see anything wrong with it! so I ended it.
But now I wish I hadnt, I think about him everyday and I know I still have feelings for him! Should I tell him how I feel?
Im not interested in any other guys! One guy has asked me out a few times and I keep telling him no, its not tht he isnt a nice guy or anything, he is sooo nice 2 me, but I just cant get over my ex!
Someone please answer my question, should I tell my ex how I feel? Or move on and gave the other guy a chance?
sorry its sooo long :(
It'd probably be best for you to move on. I know it's probably extremely hard for you to move on, but I think you should. I mean if your ex wasn't committed to your relationship then what's the point in staying in one with him, or even try to get back with him. Not worth your time or feelings.
I mean from what you wrote, it doesn't seem worth it to try going back out with your ex boyfriend. I'm a big believer in moving on with someone else, so that's what I'm thinking you should do.
It's beneficial if you see what else is out there. You're 17, and have plenty more relationships to go through in your life so just give some other guys a chance. You'll see in the end that there's a ton of great guys out there once you go looking for one.
I hope this helps you and good luck. :)
does anyone know of any ways
to get involved with acting or modeling?
Local theaters help you for acting. It helps you get experience. Later on you'll probably want to move to LA, or NY since that's where the most jobs for acting are. There are some acting schools that you could go to, to get training in acting. You'll need to get an agent too eventually, since they'll help boost your career by getting you jobs. Be aware it's hard to land agents.

Modeling is different from acting. You can try getting a modeling agent where you live now, and do some print ads which will help you. Another way which I've heard from a friend who wants to become a model is go to modeling agencies websites. Find their addresses (most are located in NY but some have offices in other cities like Chicago, Miami, Boston). You could send a head shot, full body shot, and other pictures they tel you to. (On some of the websites they tell you how to send in your pictures if you want to become a model). You could even call them up and ask them if you could go ahead and send your pictures.
Other agencies having 'open calls' or 'casting calls' which is basically anyone who lives in that area, to try out and become a model. This is really good because they might sign you to a good modeling contract. It'd be better if you lived in NY since it is one of the fashion capitals of the world.

In general with both of these be prepared for rejection. I don't mean to be harsh, but you'll need to grow a thick skin (especially with modeling). So don't give up, try and try again.
Good luck, and I hope this helps you. If anything message me. :)
I have this Oil of Olay face lotion and this loose powder bronzer. I put a little bit on my hand and mix some of the bronzer in so that it matches my skin tone, and put it on like lotion. Is this okay .. is it better to use than foundation? I like it better because it's mousturizing my face without it looking really cakey.
Please that's so much better than foundation. Foundation, I think, shouldn't be used in the summer. You'll most likely sweat it off (since some foundations are cakey) and need to reapply it. So I think the bronzer and face lotion mix are better. Plus you're skin will stay hydrated from the lotion which is a plus. Me personally, I never use foundation on a daily basis, so I think it's better to use the lotion than foundation.
Hope this helps you. :)
my upper abdomen hurts, and i don't know why it hurts right now...but my mom has been saying that it's because i stay up really late and wake up late, can that be the reason why? i'm not feeling very well and i don't have a good feeling about what might be the cause of it.
I kind of have what you have like the pain in my upper abdomen. Sometimes I feel sick like nauseated. Why I'm sick is because of the heat since I don't stay up that late anymore since I've been feeling sick. I'm thinking you're probably having heat frustration (which I have). Drink plenty of water, try not to stay outside for too long, and stay in the A/C or cool places when possible.
I hope this helps you, if anything message. :)
I'm always hungry before I go to bed. I eat my meals and snacks throughout the day, but I always get hungry around 9 pm. I can control my hunger, but what would be the best thing to do? Would it be unhealthy or unsafe to not eat before you sleep? Or should I eat crackers or something? I'm on a diet also. Thanks!
I was watching Oprah at one point when Bob Greene (her trainer) was on. He said that you really should try not to eat 2-3 hours before bed. I aim for that. I do sometimes get a little hungry before bed though I'll admit so usually I'll eat a piece of fruit or drink skim milk. It helps fill your stomach up and avoids the hungry feeling. (Bob Greene also recommended that)
Hope this helps you. :)
Today I put in a tampon for the first time. I had to push alot for it to go in for like 3 seconds, but then it just slid in. Is that normal, or is it supposed to just slide the whole time? Then, after it was in and everything, I felt it inside me, but it wasn't really uncomfortable. So I took it out. Did I feel it because it was't in far enough? Also, after I took it out, the tampon was like all open, is that normal? Thanks!
It's completely normal, especially if you were nervous and tense. Try to become a lot less nervous when inserting it. Plus it's normal if it's open.
Yeah using a small tampon is alright, as long as you change it frequently since your flow is medium/heavy. You'll probably want to go up to regular sized ones, but for now if you feel comfortable use the lights. You won't get TSS from it.
I hope this helps you and good luck. :)
I have realized that I need to become more active, which will result in a whole liefstyle change.
I want to start riding my bike, and become more lean and fit. If I ride my bike for about 30-45 minutes, say a few times a week, at a pretty fast pace- will I burn a lot of calories?
What places on my body does riding my bike target, because I want to lose the fat on my stomach, and thighs. So, will biking help me with my goal, and will it help me get a flat stomach?
I am also eating very well, and incorporating crunches, and sit ups in my routine, as well as squats.
Bike riding will burn a lot of calories, if you just do it a few times a week. It'll help your abs, thighs, and glutes. It will help you et a flat stomach since it'll be burning fat from a cardiovascular stand point. Forgot to add that it flatens your stomach since your abs will be engaged when you're basically riding your bike.
No worries, it'll work out for you. Good luck with it and I hope this helps you. :)
I've only had my Sidekick ID for a month and it already broke. I didn't drop it or do anything to it and the "Jump" button snapped off and it's only on 3 quarters of the way. It looks bad and I can't buy a new one. Do you think they can fix it? Because it looked like it came unscrewed or something.
Go to a T-Mobile store and tell them your problem. They'll send it back to the manufactures to inspect it and send you a new one in the mail (it'll take a week or so). I had that done for an old cell of mine.
Hope this helps you. :)
Does anyone know of any sites with really cute undies and bra sets that are also really comfy?
Thanks.
Totally agree Victoria's Secret is probably your best bet. Basically that's all I wear, all their styles are extremely comfy and are cute.
If you don't want to go there try Gap Body. They have a lot of bra and panty sets that are comfy too.
Hope this helps you. :)
whats the best type of no clump mascara thats good.
15/f
I love MAC's Pro Lash mascara. There are never any clumps. Good colors too. Plus it's only $11. Totally an added bonus.
Hope this helps you. :)
what is the quickest way to get abs or lose a little bit of stomach fat? if its at all possible i want to have atleast a hint of abs in about 2 weeks, how can i do this? do i need to do like 700 crunches in one day everyday until then, because i will seriously do it, if need be?
Cardio about 4-5 times a week. At least 30 minutes for each session. Running, jogging, walking, bike riding. Anything like that. That'll help melt the fat right off.
Diet is important too! You might not realize it, but it's highly important to lose fat. Eat a lot of whole grains, protein like chicken, fruits and veggies and diary for calcium. Take a multivitamin too. Drink plenty of water and steer clear of any type of soda, including diet sodas. They are artifically sweetened and not good for you at all.
If you want to do 700 crunches a day, go ahead, but a lot of people say it doesn't matter on the quantity of crunches but the quality. Make sure you perform them right, like don't hold in your breath, try keeping your stomach into your spine, don't force yourself on by grabbing your neck, so on and so forth. Honestly a stability ball is worth it if you have one. It'll definitely help you while you do crunches.
Hope this helps and good luck. :)
I'm not sure if this belongs here but I have had a break out of small bumps under my nose, a little above my lip. The only way to see the bumps is if I move my top lip down. I'm not sexually active so I'm not sure what has caused it. What can I put on the bumps to make them go away?
When I start to break out I use gels or lotions that have 10% salicylic acid. Clean and Clear has something called Persa-Gel 10 that you can use. Dab it on the where you have the bumps and it should dry it out. (You can use a cheaper Rite Aid or other type of drug store brands they're all the same and cost a lot less). After that put something that contains hydrocortisone. There's this brand you can get which is Cortizone 10. It'll reduce the swelling of the bumps, and the redness.
My facialist was the one who told me about this, and it totally works. So you won't have to spend so much money on "on the spot acne treatments".
I hope this helps you and good luck. If anything message me. :)
i tried this neutragena acne face wash the other day, and the next morning, the areas where i used it looked a little red, but i didnt think annything of it. later that night, i realised it had swollen a little, had spread some, was warmer than the rest of my face, and was a lot redder. this morning it has started to itch and sting a little bit, plus it has spread further. im guessing its from alergies. i need it gone by tomarro... anny mirical advice?
Okay, I'm not sure if this will work, but hey it's worth a try. Since it's an allergic reaction try taking Benadryl, it should internally help the allergic reaction. With that they have itch stopping cream so use that too.
For the reddness, try use hydrocortisone. I'm not sure if you can try going to a drug store to get it. It comes in a tube. They sell it like Cortizone 10 plus, that brand comes with one with aloe which will soothe the itching. Plus it should take the reddness out.
I hope this helps you, and if anything message me. :)
