Hey, I'm Mara. I love dancing. It's practically my favourite thing to do. I love House, R&B, pretty much everything with a good beat, and Benny Benassi is my hero; that's why my column is a shrine to him. I graduated this year and am now in my first year of college where I'm trying to pick a major. Chances are you'll see some of my Psychology questions floating around somewhere here. I'm also extremely interested in Political Science too because I, like half the people living in Canada, somehow want to change the world. I particularly want to find a cure for poverty, corruption, cancer, AIDS and George Bush because honestly, I think those are the biggest problems we have right now. I have decided that maybe I should take the time to live a little before I start though because I have a good fifty years ahead of me to fix all the issues there are. Currently my life consists of: studying, working, socializing, eating and ocassionaly sleeping. I spent practically all of my high school life being a delinquent and partying to huge extents until I discovered my brain sometime in the middle of my senior year. I still like to have a good time every once in a while but you always need to find that balance (I haven't exactly found it yet but I'm getting close). Unfortunatley, a habit that has stuck with me from school is my obsessive gossiping. I just can't stop and you know, an article in Cosmo says that gossipers are healthier people because they bond over it? Who would have thought? Anyway, I do have my limitations and I don't condone nasty, brutal gossiping and I don't gossip about anything my friends have told me in confidence or something about someone else that they have slipped to me, however, if I find you in a washroom at a random party making out with my bestfriends's boyfriend, a few people are probably going to hear about it. Actually, more than a few people will hear about it because one of my absolute pet peeves is parties where the all the bathrooms are occupied due to sexual activity or... puking activity. Sooooo what else is there to know about me? My favourite thing in the world is shopping and my worst fear is existantialism. I am OCDey in a clinical way so you can ask me questions about that. You can ask me practically anything you want except for dumb questions but I'm not going to answer them in my little column here because it's a huge waste of space when I could be writing about myself (Click 'LookIt' on my menubar for answers to dumb questions so you don't have to embarass yourself asking them and getting bitched out from me). What I can do, is offer you three pieces of truly inspirational advice. Firstly, never live your life by what others want of you, cherish yourself and everyone around you, and never beat yourself down about anything you couldn't have avoided. Secondly, donate at least ten percent of the income you earn in your life to someone who needs it. Lastly, never get into a bulldozer when you're under the influence and start driving it towards a poor freshmen (I am never going to another kegger ever again... ever). Ok, I'll shut up now. You can start asking me stuff, if you haven't hit the back button already.

ok, when i get my period, and a few days befor (can be up to 2 weeks) i get really bad cramps and they make me litterally double over sometimes. i do not have access to a hot water bottle or heating pad, i take midole but it doesn't always stop all the cramping. my flow is not heavy so i don't see why i get them so bad. are there any home remedies i can use to relive the pain? i only have a bean bag that you can warm up in the micro wave right now, and i've been using it all evening..or whenever time permits it. by the way, i'm 15 and oviously a female.

in a few weeks my school is having a talent show. i've decided that i want to sing (that's what i do best =]), but i have no idea what to sing!! i like any kind of music. im 14/f, so i'd prefer a song by a girl. i was thinking about jesus take the wheel or suddenly i see, but i dont think i like those for talent show songs.

Sing 'Before He Cheats'. You'll have all the ladies singing with you because it's such a female-empowering song.

first off, i'm 16/f.
Well, my best friend (23/m) is really sad as his girlfriend broke up with him (almost a year ago, he has trouble getting over things...but that's ok) and well I just wanna show him that I care for him heaps.
I wanted to write him an email but I wanna be a bit creative with it. Like, once he sent one to me using nothing more than quotes out of songs. I wanna do something like that, but obviously not that.

Burn him a mixed CD. Songs about moving on and how important friends are to get you through rough times are good. Use modern songs and try to orient towards songs that fit his taste in music, i.e. rock, rap, jazz et cetera

Is there anywhere to get online exercise/work out videos for free? I tried looking on Google, but I couldn't find a specific website with them. The type of exercise does not really matter, I'm just feeling lazy seeing its snowy and I'd rather not be outside running and such.

soo the last time i had sex was about a month ago && i got put on birth control about 5 days after i last had sex. They told meh to come back if i didnt get my period && i havent gotten my period but i bled 2 weeks before i got my period but only for two days. should i go back to get pregnancy tested or am i ok?
You should go get tested. You shouldn't have uprotected sex for at least a month into taking the pills and you should still use a condom even then.

What percent of people in an average highschool have at least one gf/bf in their four years of high school? Ha. i know this is random, but what do you think?
Well in 2001, 46% of teens had sexual intercourse but that number seems low.
In 2003, an NLSAH study said that 89% of girls reported feeling pressured by their boyfriends to have sex.
So I guess roughly 89% of girls have had a boyfriend. Maybe a few of them didn't understand the question or were pressured to have sex with someone who wasn't their boyfriend.

i have naturally wavy hair & it will hold curls really well. i, however, want wider curls (insted of the thin, tight ones you get from say a 1/2 inch curling barrel). i bought a 1 1/2 inch curling barrel & it does NOTHING for my hair. it hardly even makes a slight wave, let alone a curl. could it be the company i bought, or are 1 1/2 inch curling irons not supposed to curl you hair? i just want a FASTER way to get a head of curls then using a 1/2 in curling iron...it takes FOREVER! any adivce about the 1 1/2 inch i bought would be great & also some advice on how to get the curls i want!

I know what you mean, I have the same problem sometimes too.
What you actually need to do is make sure that the iron is really hot and spray hairspray on the strand before -and- after you curl it. Keep the hair curled around the iron longer too.
Sometimes I do my entire head and only the last few curls look right so I have to do over the rest of them too.
But remember to spritz on a protectant to make sure you don't damage your hair.

You've been smoking so much pot that it has started to replace the roles of neurotransmitters that are associated with memory formation. Now these neurotransmitters don't function the same way anymore unless you smoke more pot. Eventually, this process is going to kill you.
The effects don't have to be permanent so you never know but unless you stop now, you're pretty much screwed. So put down that joint and go outside and play some ball.

Today was tutoring for my math class after school. Usually for tutoring, there are quite a few kids in the class so the teacher can't pay all that much attention to the kids individually, but I did get one of my questions asked. During the time I was at tutoring today, I did get one of my questions asked though, but most of the time the teacher was busy. But that's okay, I didn't mind. I just did my homework until I was done.
Then my mom called me and said she was there to pick me up already, so I had to go before the tutoring session was over. I was a little annoyed that I had to leave before I got to ask the teacher more questions but it wasn't that big a deal. So as I'm finishing up the last little bits of my homework, he walks up and asks if I'm okay with everything. So I say,
"Yeah I'm okay. I'm just mad that I have to go because I still have a couple of questions I wanted to ask you." He says "oh okay." Then I say, "But I can just ask you those on Thursday." And then he says "okay, just make sure you remember." I don't think I sounded mad or anything but I didn't want it to come off that way.
My question is, did saying "I'm just mad that I have to go because I still have a couple of questions I have to ask you" seem rude? Because I wasn't trying to be sound mad at all. I was just annoyed that I had to leave so soon.
This is probably really an idiotic thing to be asking for advice on but I just wanted some opinions. If this didn't make much sense the way I explained it feel free to ask me to clear it up for you. If you're taking the time to actually read this and reply, thank you!

Yesterday (Monday, January 15, 2007) my friend Tracy went to see her male therapist. Tracy had left a messageon Friday, January 12, 2006 on her male therapists machine about her sister and how when they get together her sister lectures Tracy about the money Tracy spends when they go shopping together to buy presents for birthdays, or when Tracy buys clothes for herself. (KEEP IN MIND today at work a customer said to Tracy; Tracy you are skinny, very skinny) So when Tracy saw her male therapist tonight she brought up the comments her sister makes about spending to much. Her therapist said; wasnt there an incident when she said fat. This got Tracy upset and mad. And she confronted her male therapist and said to him to explain and he said; I thought that was the message you left on my machine. I thought you said your sister said something about you being overweight; So they argued a little bit. She then said; Why would my sister call me fat, every one always tells me how skinny I am and my sister is always telling me how skinny I am and how I am lucky because I can wear any type of clothes; Her male therapist said; you are definitely skinny, you are not big, you do not have big legs, you do not have big hips, nothing about you is big; your body type is skinny, I bet your metabolism is fast; I just thought you said your sister said something about overweight; As the session came to a close as Tracy was leaving her therapist said; See you in two weeks, skinny: that is when Tracy asked again and the therapist said; you are skinny, your body type is skinny, I bet you have trouble gaining weight. Tonight Tracys friends said to her yes your therapist thinks you are skinny and he just misinterpreted what he thought you said on the phone. Hi, I'm a virgin(and I'm pretty sure about that) and I've never even kissed anyone before, recently I got a cold sore and I don't know where from. I researched what it was and it told me I had some kind of herpes infection- how did i get it then? Also I recently found out that I had little bumps around the head of my penis, and it looks somewhat similar to a picture of someone who has genital herpes. You're fourteen and you're confused.
It's normal for teenagers to be confused about their sexuality during adolescence. Don't close your mind to everything. Just let it play out.
Don't worry too much about it either, the majority of the guys you know feel the same way as you but won't admit it.
