ovulation is when the expulsion of an ovum from the ovary (usually midway in the menstrual cycle).

The opposite side of your menstrual cycle to menstruation (when the unfertilised eggs, which are technically called 'ova' die away and you have your period). Ovulation is when those are released and 'ready'. A woman 'trying for a baby' might like to precisely identify that point, and there are techniques which can be used to do just that. And because it's driven by an increase in certain hormones, some women find they feel a bit more horny and flirty when they are, and basically wanting to 'display' a bit for the guys. Human behaviourists like to study this kind of thing, but it's quite subtle, you don't become a sex maniac or anything. Still, if you find yourself feeling a bit 'extra sexy' for a spell each month, it's quite probably when YOU are ovulating. Your 'sexy and flirty hormones' as you might call them take a proper nosedive as the eggs die off , which they do if you haven't become pregnany, (ie most months of your life!) . That explains why you might feel a bit moody and touchy just before your period. All sorted??

Dragonflymagic Is correct in about what she has written. About 80% ovulate on this type of cycle. The remaining 20% of women can ovulate at anytime during their cycle including when they have their period. This is why the rhythm method of birth control fails as much as it does.

Their is a ovulation kit you can purchase at your local pharmacy that can help you track when you ovulate and are most fertile. Even though I am a male I believe knowing when during your cycle, even if on birth control, you are ovulating and most fertile is something every women should know.

I hope this additional information is useful to you

Dragonflymagic answered Sunday May 5 2013, 2:44 am:
Ovulation: The release of the ripe egg (ovum) from the ovary. The egg is released when the cavity surrounding it (the follicle) breaks open in response to a hormonal signal. Ovulation occurs around 14 or 15 days from the first day of the woman?s last menstrual cycle. When ovulation occurs, the ovum moves into the Fallopian tube and becomes available for fertilization.
Found that on a medical dictionary on line.

There is a wealth of information on the internet. By doing an easy search, just putting the word ovulation into the search box, you will come up with more details about it other than just the definition I posted from a medical dictionary.
