It's been decades since I had the problem but it stemmed from oily skin and tight fitting clothes as was the style back in the day. Also puberty played a large part in the problem.
My mom took me to a dermatologist which was a little embarrassing for me as the doctor was a women and I'm a guy. She prescribed a body wash and some creams also some medication why I can't remember. I think some of the acne looked infected I can't remember back that far.
In any case once the medication and the other stuff took hold things got better. Now the only problem I get back there is the occasional ingrown hair.

Body acne, in general, is harder to control than regular facial acne... unless you suffered from that horrifying pizzaface acne people get...
Anyway... body acne is caused by lots of things. If you're having butt acne, there are a few things you can do.
Wear cotton panties. They breathe better than silk... and if you wear thongs, take a break. You could be reacting to contact with your pants. Cover your butt with cotton. I like the boy short cut, myself. They're just comfy.
Get some dead sea salt oil. Available at most beauty product stores (or something similar) and use it in the shower. The salt exfoliates your skin, the oil keeps your skin from drying out after being horrifically accosted by salt. Follow with an unscented, no-oil moisturizer for best results.
Pumice stone. This one is for when you don't intend on showing your butt to people for at least 3 days... but some body wash on a pumice stone and scrub your butt. It may be uncomfortable at first, but once you kind of sand it down your skin can rebuild itself. Again, cotton is an important part of that heaing process, because your skin is going to be a little tender. After like 3 days, though, your skin should have healed over and start looking better.
hollisterhottie answered Thursday November 8 2012, 12:53 pm: probably the same thing you do this the rest of your body. use body acne wash, like neutrogena or clean and clean and clean it like you clean your chest and back and stuff.
you can use an astringent too if you want. And make sure to wear clean clothes. [ hollisterhottie's advice column | Ask hollisterhottie A Question ]
