I want to be a writer

Question Posted Tuesday April 10 2012, 9:23 am

17/ M
Hi there.
I am a type of person who like to share his thoughts. It was just recently that I spotted this quality in me - I have a very very very good imagination. Really ! I AM NOT JOKING!!!
Ok cut down one '' very ''. Happy ? :P
Now, I thought that I can use (and I do use) this imagination to make up scripts for stories, novels or even films. I have 2 small story scripys ready. I can improve upon that. But my english writing skill is not too good to make me a good writer. I can make up wonderful novels, but the vocabulary and writing style ? It's too basic, too normal. What as a budding writer do I need to do to make myself more skillful in these areas and what do you, as an audience suggest me I should be writing. Any topic, any suggestion. What would you like to be written about...???? Any answer. Thanks.

You should try to work on your grammar first then if you want to you can try and start with short stories and see what happens. Maybe you should try and see if you can join the school newspaper too.I hope I helped you somewhat.

Well, if you're going to do writing whether it's a career or hobby definitely work on grammar and punctuation first. And also how to drag people in and how to form your thoughts in a proper way. These are one of the best attributes most writers need, and a lot who don't make it seem to lack. And really what you write about can't be told. You should just write what you feel; what you want. This happens to be one of the perks of being a writer. And one of the keys to definitely writing isn't just writing something you know will entertain you and others but something others can relate too.

I'd say that's a wonderful dream! I'm glad you found one of your passions in life. The only thing I'd suggest is working at basic sentence structures and working on your sentences better. I'm not sure if you just were typing too fast but there's a lot of mistakes on this post with your sentences. Ex: 1st sentence should be something more like I am the type of person who likes sharing his thoughts. Don't start off a sentence with but. Towards the end should be suggest that I do you don't need the me. The sentence at the end what would you like to be written about doesn't make sense. So there are several mistakes with the writing but as long as you study more about writing structure and the grammar mistakes you'll be way better off to your writing career!

To improve your writing style, I suggest reading different kinds of writing to see what you might like to write about. By reading other authors' stuff, you kind of get an example of different styles. Also, remember that every author and what they right is different in its own way. There are some writers who do have a basic writing style and came make something out of nothing. Also, if you truly are blessed with an imagination, you definitely should stick with writing fiction.
Another thing that I recommend to do is enter some of your writing in contests. There are several that you can enter for free across the web specific for teenagers. There is also a website called Teen Ink ([Link](Mouse over link to see full location)) where you can create an account and upload your work where other people can see and give an opinion on it. It's a pretty nice way to get some other opinions without any bias. Anyways, I hope this helped and good luck with writing :)
