too over weight? Any tips?

Question Posted Monday January 30 2012, 11:57 pm

I'm 19 f; I'm 5 foot and I weigh 220 pounds.

This is the biggest I've ever been. I've always been chubby, but my stomach isn't that bad. It's mostly my face, and my thighs. I'd like to make my stomach more firm so it isn't flabby but anyways.

I'm joining a gym and I'd like to know what excerises are the best? They have a pool and yoga and stuff; so any tips?

Also, anyone know of any successful diets that actually show results? And have a list of foods that I can eat, and times that I should eat?

I'm also taking a pill called Phentomine; my doctor prescribed it to me; when I was last one it, it curved my appietite and helped me lose 40 lbs; once I stopped, I gained it back plus 20 more lbs.

So..?

Any tips, or stories?

Swimming would be great for building a lean body and strengthening your arms and thighs. (Which would help burn off the excess flab consequently.)

Not to sound cliche but vegetables, fruits, and fish meat are advisable food options. Especially foodstuffs that would get your metabolism going and help in digestion too. (A lot of fruits can do this.)

Sleeping properly and having a fixed eating schedule would help to stabilize your metabolism. Eating in intervals too far apart would slow it down and quicken one's gain in weight with food intake. Of course, drinking lots of water is a classic too. Don't forget to always eat breakfast too. It goes without saying that majority of what you should eat should be stuff good for your health. I say majority because banning yourself from those desserts we love is a horrid thought. There's nothing wrong with eating them in little amounts. :)

When you go without sleep, the body releases something to keep your energy going and this badly influences your metabolism rate.

It's all about keeping your metabolism rate going - having more physical activities would help this.

NEVER ever ask "When should I eat?" because you eat when you get hungry. You should eat every 5 hours, though. Hope I helped :)

Rena and Zane have good ideas.

I would like to add that while you may want to avoid centering your diet around processed carbohydrates (white bread, rice, pasta, etc), complex, whole grain carbs are actually good for your body - they cause it to work harder to burn what you put into it. Carbs are sugars that you need. They're to your body what gas is to a car. (You can function without carbs, but not well. I tried the South Beach/Atkins type diets. I did lose weight, but I had constant nightmares and was extremely irritable.)

I want to also warn you that as you lose weight and get closer to your "ideal," you may plateau - that is, you may get stuck. The best way to get through this is to just keep on truckin', and change up your gym routine a little bit.

The best diet is a lifestyle change, which is what I did. Anyway, once you get to working out and building muscle, remember that even lean muscle is heavier than fat, so you may appear to gain weight at first, if you look at the scale. Judge by the way your clothes fit, instead. :)

I can't give you a restrictive diet because the best diet doesn't actually forbid any certain foods, or groups of foods. Your diet should include bits of everything, but healthy portions. You're young enough so that you can still speed up your metabolism. You want to aim to eat six small meals - or three meals and two snacks per day. Doing this will teach your body to burn what you put into it more quickly.
If you're working out consistently (at least four times a week), make sure you have a lot of lean protein in your diet (poultry, fish, even lean red meat and pork).
Most importantly, be patient, and love your body. Those two things will get you where you want to be. :)

If you are looking to work on your thighs, You may want to focus on leg press. It is recommended that you do cardio exercise before you attempt to work your muscles. At 5 feet, You should weigh between 120-130 lbs.

If you are looking to join a gym I would focus on the treadmill first, Have a weight loss goal of maybe 50 lbs and then gradually work your way up towards more challenging equipment. Working on other machines right now will only turn the fat into muscle you won't necessarily loose the weight itself.

As far as weight in your face, It will come off as you gradually begin to loose weight. There is really no special exercise that will work it off.

If you are serious, It will be successful. Like I tell everyone else......It all depends on how bad you want it.

Avoid carbs, Pasta, Rice, (Rice is surprisingly high on sugar) Stay away from soda even diet soda as the acid in soda can cause your stomach to expand. Any meat try to stick with lean meat, Pasta is okay but make sure it's wheat. Wheat bread etc. Avoid high calorie and sugar intake. Stick to vegetables, Fruits and lean meats!

Now as far as exercise: When you loose weight from the tread mill, You can jump to the butterfly machine.

This will tighten your chest muscles, As well as your upper arm area.

Pilates are great exercise as well, If you are at home and unable to make it to the gym for whatever reason I would recommend giving it a shot. If the gym has a pool you could look into taking some water aerobic classes.

Make sure you drink plenty of water! Water is known to help reduce stress and maintain a healthy and more filling feeling. If you eat on big plates, Switch to small dishes. Eat with your other hand and you will see you are more likely to eat less. ;) It can happen but you need to make it happen!

Best of luck

I'm 5'4" and I use to weigh 320 pounds. I'm now a comfortable 150. I wasn't happy with myself. Granted most people aren't. The way I lost the weight was I REALLY cut back on fatty foods (fast food, junk foods) and really started to eat healthy, as well as doing cardiovascular workouts. Cardio helps by quickly burning your body fat. But you also HAVE to eat healthy as well as enough to ensure that you always have the energy you will need. In ways of firming my belly, I found that laying flat on your back, arms at your sides, palms on the floor, lift your legs to a 90 degree angle, spread them as wide as you are capable, close your legs, lower them to about 6 inches from the floor, and hold for 3-5 seconds, and repeat. Doing this helps to firm your belly as well as the leg spreading helps thin your legs. As for cardio, go for long fast paced walks, or jogging. This, as I have stated previously, burns body fat. The leg lifts/spreads help with toning your tummy as well as your inner thighs. (I had a problem with my inner thighs due to my being over-weight. This helped thin them out. As for a list of foods, I do not have a list of foods, but do remember, to eat healthy, if you feel the need for something sweet, replace your junky snacks with a fruit of your choice. For meals, eat regularly. Breakfast, Lunch, AND Dinner. Eating properly will help ensure that you lose the weight you wish to lose, as well as giving you the proper nutrients you need. Exercising without eating properly can cause major weight gain problems in your future. In order to maintain the weight you wish to achieve, you HAVE to keep exercising, you can't just exercise, get to the weight you want to be at, and stop exercising, because it'll happen all over again. (The weight gain). I know my description/advice isn't very clean, and kind of jumping back and forth, but as a previous over weight female, I do know what I'm talking about. I would suggest, doing Cardio, those leg lifts, and since you'll be joining a gym, you'll have more access to equipment to help firm/tone other parts of your body. Just remember, DO NOT STOP once you've reached your ideal weight, you HAVE TO KEEP GOING, even after reaching your ideal weight, or you'll end up gaining it back. Hope my everywhere advice helps ya. Good luck and keep at it!
