I completely understand your situation. I got my period when I was 13. My mum always used pads and because that's what was there I used them. When I started to got to high school I became quite active and was playing netball and started rowing in the summer. So how I got tampons was by writhing a letter to my mum explaining my situation. If you tell her how you feel and why you want to use them she should understand. Make sure you leave the letter in a place where she will find it. If that doesn't work maybe ask another close trusted adult or friend to get you some. Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any other questions. Good Luck :)

hey i got my period when i was just 11 yrs old, as it follwed in my family. the next month i used one, though i didnt use it reguarly, because i wasn't very confident in using them. I had to use it that time because i was going to a waterpark. You should not be ashamed, embarrssed, etc. You are 14, a teenager, its time to start. And this dilema with your strict mother seems to be concerning you. My advice is, first go out with a friend buy 2 packages of tamps (i like non-cardboard, tampax pearl) there like $7 each maybe. Then discuss this subject with your mom and simply say "mom im 14, i like tampons more than pads, pads are very discomforting for me, and i know how to use one, and what the risks are, blahhhhhhhh, and i would appreciate if you would buy me tampons too." wait, see how she reacts. i think your personally overreacting, and any sane and logic mom would get that using tamps are perfectly normal especially for your age.My mom is kinda strict, and im 13, and my mom makes sure i take my tamps out. Although lot of times i forget. BUT add to the fact to your mom that you KNOW how to use one, and you LIKE them. she should respect that and buy tamps and pads from now on. (because you need BOTH) but just get a thinner pad. so after you tell your mom all this, if she takes it the wrong way, dont get angry, leave it alone, and talk about it another day. hide the tampons you bought in your room if she did overreact. Day by day keep bringing up valuable points and reasons. I agree, maybe one of my friends uses tampons? but then again i started my period young. So i perfer tampons.
Good luck, and best wishes. ~INBOX ME ON HOW IT GOES!!

Discussing your period with other women you feel comfortable with is okay, It is nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about. Every women gets their period it's just a part of life.

If you feel more comfortable using tampons then you could tell your mother that you have your period and would prefer to use tampons as they are more convinced too you. If you don't think you could have this conversation with your mother then you could go out and buy them yourself when you go out with a friend. There is no age limit to buying tampons and stores have check out lanes if you don't want other people knowing your business. Like I said, It's nothing to be embarrassed about it's normal.
