Yea its kinda mean. Just because you have a "best friend" doesnt mean you should push away all your other friends. Why cant you just be friends with all of them? you can never have enough friends. At least thats what i think. :)

not at all. girls do it all the time. you can't be friends with somebody forever. but that doesnt mean you should necessarily "Push" them away, i'm just saying that if it happens, it happens, and its not bad.

Short answer to your question: Yes.
As to why: Put yourself in the position of the friend being pushed away because your BFF has found someone they feel is their new BFF. How does this make you feel?
Enemies are easy to make, friends are hard to make and harder to keep. When you make a friend you should do everything possible to keep all your friends and include your new friend into activities with your old friends.
