Watching shows/movies online... My computer runs on wireless, something called Frontier and it's definitely faster than the dial up we used to have. Recently, though, it takes almost ten minutes to buffer a 24 minute video, sometimes even a two minute youtube vid, but my friend says her youtube tends to get slow too.
I watch most of my shows on hulu too. Is it the site or is it my Internet that's being slow?

I have had this problem recently and a solution came to me I didn't have security on my wireless network so one day I hard wired my computer to my modem and what do you know it was super fast I most of had tons of leechers. I never knew how big of an effect this could actually have on a connection so if you don't have security on your wireless I suggest you get it. ]
hi,
if you have too many tabs open it slows your computer if you have too many things on it it can run slowly make sure you delete things you no longer need and empty your recycling bin.
Run a scan on your computer and if nothing on there then disable your virus network until you need it they make your computer slow.
Make sure your internet is working properly reset it every now and again to keep it active also delete history as well
if your computer doesn't have much space on it that might be why it runs or plays slow videos
hope this helped :) ]
I have frontier and it takes 10 seconds to buffer a youtube video and 1.5 minutes for an hour video. Its not your internet, its your computer, you may have to many documents or need to defrag it. ]
It certainly could be the web servers, but there are a couple things to consider on your side. This is not in any particular order, just how I thought of it:
- Simply powering off the router / modem, waiting a couple minutes and powering it back on can clear up issues and improve performance.
- Wireless is typically slower, less stable and less secure than a wired connection. Your wireless router will generally have 1-4 ethernet ports which can be used to connect your computer by ethernet cable directly to the router.
The cables are pretty inexpensive online, or you should be able to find them at Best Buy and places like that if you're willing to spend more for instant gratification.
You'll want to look for CAT 5e, unless you have a Gigabit router. In that case, you might want to spend the extra for the CAT 6 cable.
- There are online speed tests that you can run to benchmark your performance when running Wired and Wireless.
I would test it wireless, then TURN OFF OR DISABLE your wireless connection, wire it up and test again. Your ISP may have their own speed test, but try others too in order to make sure that they aren't tweaking the numbers to make things look good.
Just a few are:

- You probably don't want to be doing anything that would affect overall system performance, which would ALSO affect network performance.
Copying large files from one drive location to another, downloads, disk defrag, video encoding, etc. Anything that requires a fair amount of horsepower will slow things down.
- You can talk to your ISP and see what level of service you have. Both DSL and Cable are available in different speed packages.
- Make sure that your system is clean and running efficiently. (This goes along with what I said earlier about operations that would affect general performance.)
Make sure that you aren't running a bunch of unnecessary processes and programs that are eating up memory and CPU time.
I may think of something 3 minutes after I submit this, but I think that this is about it. Good luck with it, I know that it can be frustrating. ]
