I am suffering from bipolar disorder. I cannot concentrate on one thing. Because at one moment i feel that it is a very good thing and i get very much interested and the next minute i get bored from that thing and get least interested in that thing. I want to stop that task at that time and want to do something different. The same thing happens with that task also and evenually i keep bouncing from one task to the other, be it studies or any other thing, any thought. It goes with money, girls, internet, everything. For example, At once i get interested in making money, i make many plans of making money, read as many articles as i can, and am very very interested. Then after few minutes i get bored and come to the conclusion that making money is not a good thing or is a very boring thing. Then i go making girlfriends. Same thing happens with it. Eventually i waste my time doing nothing worthwhile. Please help.

However, I have a lot of personal experience, because my best friend has bipolar disorder. A lot of people don't really understand bipolar, they just use the word to describe changes in mood, when, most people change moods, just some more frequently than others. The interesting thing is that switching moods one minute to the next is almost definitely not bipolar, because with bipolar, you switch every few days or weeks. You could have ADD, or just a short attention span, but you probably do not have bipolar disorder. [ the_unexpected's advice column | Ask the_unexpected A Question ]
adviceman49 answered Saturday November 13 2010, 9:41 am: Edited Answer: The fact that it took you almost two months to answer tells me my thoughts to you are probably correct.
I am someone who suffers from chronic depression, which by itself is bad enough. Bipolar disorder, which is a form of depression is even worse. I know someone who is bipolar and have watched her go through treatment, it is not pretty. She has been hospitalized twice and had electroshock therapy. To me bipolar disorder is almost like being schizophrenic with the mood swings from ultra highs to ultra lows.
I'm sorry you found my advice so poor but I stand by what I said; you need to be properly diagnosed. I could be wrong but I think you are more ADHD, possibly complicated by depression. You will never know for sure until you see a doctor and the proper doctor to diagnose you is behavioral psychiatrist.
I agree with bigunored1 as far as thinking you have ADHD and not Bi-Polar Disorder. Bi-Polar Disorder is a manic form of depression where you swing from manic depressed to extremely happy.
To be properly diagnosed for either disorder you should be seeing and treated by a Psychiatrist. Both disorders can be managed with PROPER medications. Even with proper medications continued treat is required.
One of the worst things anyone can do for themselves is to self diagnose an illness or even take advise from people like us as to what illness you may. None of us are doctors, yourself included, and are not trained in the proper procedures to make a diagnoses.
If you are in treatment then you need to speak with your doctor as your medication may need to be adjusted. If you are not seeing a psychiatrist then I urge you to see one as soon as possible.
There is no reason for you to feel as you do; there is help for you whether you are ADHD, Bi-Polar or any other disorder a doctor may find.
Should money or insurance be a problem check with your local and state government departments of health. I do not know of any health department that does not run a free mental health clinic. [ adviceman49's advice column | Ask adviceman49 A Question ]

solidadvice4teens answered Tuesday November 9 2010, 1:42 pm: Have you been diagnosed bipolar by a psychiatrist? If not none of what you are telling me has anything to do with the disease.
You aren't delusional, aren't in crisis, don't have rapid mood swings or grandiose ideas or strange visions. Nor do you think you rule the world or are running the world. You never mentioned belief in telepathic skills or anything amiss.
When it comes to loss of interest in damn near everything or only fleeting interest that's a concern. It could be part of depression or other mental health concern and need to be dealt with by a professional.
If you have bipolar and have been diagnosed it's a pretty big red flag to deal with immediately by telling your doctor. If you haven't been diagnosed with bipolar or any other mental health issue it's possible that you have severe attention span difficulty. liricospinto answered Tuesday November 9 2010, 9:23 am: Have you been specifically diagnosed with bipolar disorder? If not, you may want to have a professional assessment by a counselor or therapist. The behavior you describe does not sound like someone who is bipolar -- bipolar disorder usually alternates between periods of highly energetic mania and severe depression, in cycles of weeks or even months. It sounds as if you lack focus/motivation, which is not the same as being bipolar. [ liricospinto's advice column | Ask liricospinto A Question ]
adviceman49 answered Tuesday November 9 2010, 8:22 am: Edited Answer: I hope the score you gave my answer does not reflect how you will use my advise. From what you wrote you need to see a doctor. Self-diagnose or even asking someone like us for advise on what may be you problem is dangerous. So is shopping for a diagnoses you like.
You need to trust me on this; while both Bi-Polar disorder and ADHD can be controlled with medication, ADHD is easier to live with. I have two friends diagnosed with Bi-Polar disorder. It took a long time to get each of them regulated on medication. During that time they lost everything, their jobs, homes and friends. Bi-Polar disorder scares those who don't understand the disorder and when you need your friends the most is when they abandon you.
So hopefully I am correct in my assumption and you are not Bi-Polar. The only way to know for sure is to see a doctor; so please do what needs to be done to see a doctor. There are free mental health clinics in every community if you need to use them. Check under Health Services in your City, County or State Government listing.
I am not a doctor, none of us on this website are. as such we cannot make a medical diagnoses. What I will say is this; from what you have written it sounds more like you are suffering from ADHD than bi-polar disorder.
Whether I am right or wrong in my thinking you do need to be checked out by a doctor to be properly diagnosed as you are suffering from something. What you are experiencing is not not normal.
Again from what you have written Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder sounds more correct than bi-polar.disorder. Bi-polar disorder is when you have extreme mode swings from ultra highs to extreme depression. This is not what you have written about. You have written about the inability to stay on any one task which more closely fits the ADHD symptoms.
Have mom or dad make an appointment with the family doctor. You need to have a full physical to rule out any organic reason for your symptoms and the doctor can also screen you for bi-polar and HDAD.
HDAD is easier to treat with medication that your family doctor can prescribe or can refer you to another doctor for treatment. Bi-polar disorder is much harder to treat and requires a specialist and therapist as well as medications for treatment. [ adviceman49's advice column | Ask adviceman49 A Question ]
