Can you get pregnant while on birth control pills?

Question Posted Wednesday September 22 2010, 6:36 am

I take birth control pills and have been for 2 months now. I was talking about it to my boyfriend and he was saying how we wouldn't have to use condoms if we were to have sex since I'm on the pill now. Is that true? Can you get pregnant while on birth control pills or not?

The pill is the best form of birth control there is. After 30 days on the pill, your chances of getting pregnant are very slim.

I would advise any single woman to still require your guy to wear a condom. There are some very life altering STDs out there. It is not a matter of trust to make him wear one. It could very well be a matter of life or death though.

Some women have gotten pregnant while on the pill. It is not 100%, no birth control is.

Nobody can possibly be expected to take their pill at the same time every single day. You will not get pregnant if you don't. Having worked for a doctor I can tell you that taking ANY pill at the same time every day is mostly because those who do are more likely to remember to take them.
All pills have what they call a "half life". I am not going to explain that here, but, taking it a few hours later than normal will not make you more likely to get pregnant.

You still need to use a condom. Even if you used the pill perfectly for a year, and most don't because human error is to be expected, you would still have a 1 in 1,000 chance of getting pregnant that year. Now, that's a hell of a lot better than using nothing or just using condoms.

However, if you make a mistake in taking your pills or you're just the unlucky 1 in 1,000, would it freak you out to get pregnant? If so, save yourself the heartache and stress and use a condom.

Using two methods means that even if one fails, the other one likely won't at the same time. Plus, condoms protect you from STDs and the pill doesn't.

Explain to your boyfriend that you're serious about not having a baby right now and that if he's serious about it too then it's condom time or no sex.

YYYEEEESSSS you can definately still get gregnant. Let me tell you something men love to hear it when women are on the pill. They get real relaxed and happy now cause the have no responsibility. They think the pill is going take care of everything well that is not true. Its good that your on the pill cuase it does help you not to get preganat about 95% but if you skip just one pill Just one lil mistake is all it takes and you will surely get pregnant. So tell your boy friend no glove no love you make him where the condom that way if you forget to take your pill the condom will be the back up.

And in the future don't ever tell a man your own the pill they love that. And the love to spred their seed. Keep that info to your self.

Yes, you can. The pill is not a guarantee against pregnancy. Nothing is. You should still use a condom.

Yes.

"The pill" has a failure rate of 5% when used correctly - taken at the exact same time, every day. Very few women actually manage the same time of day business.
