marijuana

Question Posted Wednesday August 25 2010, 12:39 am

18/female.
I've never tried marijuana, i've obviously heard a lot about it from health class and that, but I'm very curious about it. pretty much everyone i know takes a hit once in a while, some more than others, but i'm never around when they do.

I guess i'm just wondering if it's really worth a try. I told myself I would never try it; that i want to be able to grow old and tell my grandkids that hey, it really is possible to be straightedge your whole life, and you CAN say no.

My sister says I would really like the feeling because I'm pretty chill to begin with.

Any opinions?

Well , it's up to you , if you want to try it you'll do it , if you don't you don't , sometimes it's good to try it for yourself since your so curious , but you have to be careful. That's not the best answer you gave about wanting and being curious , but it's alright that you are and stuff , but you have to be careful with that. I mean it costs money , cops , tests , and who knows what else. You have to be precocious , I know there is a first for everything , but you have to be careful. My advice to you is be careful with what your injecting in yourself. I wouldn't do it , but it's really up to you.

Good luck girl : )

three problems with smoking pot:

1) it costs money

2) you need to have a job and most test for drugs

3) it is, in most states illegal, which means going to jail, going to court and you will have to explain to future employers why this is on your record..

now, if you can live with those three, be my guest...however know also, they call it dope fopr a reason; they dont say go smoke some genuis...

lastly, pot is a 'gateway' drug to harder drugs; at some point you will not get the 'cherry' high you did first time and you will spend time and money trying to get that back...it is sooo not worth all that...you choose the behaviour, you choose the consequence...

Lord. Three terrible answers.

For now, what you need to know about weed is that it is illegal and the justice system literally makes the bulk of it's money from drug convictions. The majority of incarcerated felons on drug offenses were caught with distribution amounts of marijuana, which is over two ounces in most states. If you touch anything labeled as a controlled substance cops are out looking to make money off of your decisions.

That may soon change. With the subject coming up for straight legalization in california we could see Marijuana re-classed from Schedule 1 Narcotic to the same as alcohol across the country when states see the increase in revenue it will provide.

In that case, it will likely be restricted by similar age limits to alcohol, which would put you as "too young" at the moment. But if and when it is legal, trying weed would be no more harmful than taking a drink on your 21st birthday.

Go to an alcoholics anonymous meeting sometime. It would be an interesting experience. There are people who destroy their lives with something, and drugs, alcohol, work, video games, relationships, family, people can inundate their lives with any one specific thing, lose all balance, and end up non-functional.

About 20% of the population who use some form of intoxicant can't handle it and are irresponsible. But most of the rest of the world discreetly takes part in whatever and goes about their lives. That's alot of people, there are an estimated 50 million marijuana smokers in the US, way more who consume alcohol.

My advice, wait till 21. Give drinking a try. Get a buzz with some friends and see if you like it, perhaps responsible drinking will be something you can and want to fit into your life. At that point, if you want to join those who engage in civil disobedience, you'll have some personal experience to make that judgment on.

But point blank weed is not the devil the people here make it out to be. Weed does not mess with your DNA. Weed does not kill braincells. For all practical intents and purposes weed is safer than alcohol, it's illegal because of a mixture of institutional racism and the desire of the lumber industry to kill the hemp industry. That is backed up by over sixty years of medical studies and US history.

you don't want to try it, so don't! it's a really good thing that you don't want to try it. i know you're curious, but it's not worth taking a drug for. maybe that's just my opinion, as i've never taken any drugs before, and i'm proud of that. i wouldn't say it's worth a try; you may be one of those people who become hooked on it, then that's a really bad thing! you don't want to have to rely on drugs.

Peeps answered Wednesday August 25 2010, 5:17 am:
In my opinion, no drug is ever "worth a try." Not even "just once."

There are some people with very addictive personalities. Most of these people don't even realize they have this problem. These are the people who take one hit today and then start craving it by next week. My cousin was very much like this. He took a hit with a friend once and the next thing you know he's thrown his entire life away, doomed to spend eternity bouncing from friend's house to friend's house without so much as a steady job.

It's just not worth it. Really.

I'd rather get loaded on cake and ice cream ;)

I'd rather get that buzz from a good exercise routine.

I'd rather go out dancing and flirting--and remember it all the next day!

I'd rather live my life free and clean. That's just me though.

Is it worth it?

No.

Love yourself without the drugs. The drugs aren't going to make something special happen. You're not missing out on anything--and whoever tells you otherwise needs to seriously take a good look at themselves and where they plan to "go" in life. No drug makes life better. No drug makes you feel special, builds your self-confidence, lands you that dream-job, or sends you hurling into a future full of fortune.

To me, there's no sense in just trying it. It's worthless and a huge waste of time.

And, I don't want to lecture here, but it also recently has been found to change or alter the DNA structure within a female's ovum (eggs). Wouldn't it be awful to give birth to a retarded baby because you wanted to "party it up" a time or two when you were younger?

In regards to the user above who clearly has not read more about marijuana and the possible side-effects on the human DNA, you can find more about pot, weed, or whatever you want to call it straight from a quick Google search in regards to lifelong effects.

For note, it also DOES mess with your brain:

"Earlier this year, a separate study found evidence that adolescents and young adults who smoked a lot of marijuana are more likely than non-users to have disrupted brain development. Research in 2007 found pot smokers have on average a 41 percent increased risk of developing psychotic disorders later in life."

and a previous question I answered with links to other information: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

Scroll slightly to read a small article about it damaging cell receptors within the brain:

Causes miscarriages:

"Marijuana smoke caused significantly more damage to cells and DNA than tobacco smoke, the researchers note." From here:

"Smoking weed has been shown to adversely affect sperm morphology and function, and can disrupt hormonal balances as evidenced by the development of gynecomastia (male breasts) in some smokers." taken from:

How pot can increase pain:

This particular link has a ton of information like "...long-term use of cannabis (the plant from which marijuana and hashish come) deformed a significantly high proportion of the cells. Impaired white blood cells are unable to function properly and protect the individual from infections.":

And, as a last note, just because it may be legal (in regards to cigarettes or alcohol) doesn't mean it's healthy or safe.

Well first of all just because there is a lot of people doing it doesn't mean its something you outa try I mean what's the point anyways you smoke it get high and then it goes away and what if you get hooked then one thing leads to another and then you want to try something eles .its a visous cycle .are you prepared for that ? Iv tryed marjuana cocane speed but it just wasn't for me yea to each his or her own .but if haven't started then don't ! You will thank me for it trust me you need to weigh the pros and cons and there realy isn't much pros to it .you might even get stoned one time at some party or somewhere and might get raped or no telling what nothing comes good out of getting stoned .so like I said if you haven't yet don't try it that's the best way to go and its illeagle to have it in your posestion I don't think I would want to go to jail for some dope and I don't think you do either
