I have a question for anyone that might know, preferably somebody who knows from experience. How much does it cost to get an ambulance to come pick you up? Will the people who run the ambulance be able to help me or do they need to take me to the hospital? I guess overall what I really need to know just in case it is how much does an ambulance ride cost? Does it vary or is there pretty much a set price? I have been having some problems but I don't know if I can afford to go. Can anybody help me?

Most emergency ambulance transports, those dispatched through the local 911 system, charge a fee for the type of transport: Advance Life Support with one or more paramedics or Basic life support with two EMT’s. Then there is usually a per mile fee and a charge for any drugs used as well as any oxygen administered during transport. The bill for this service is sent directly to your insurance carrier. If you do not have insurance the bill can be sent to Medicare or Medicaid depending on your age. The same is true of the hospital bill.
You cannot be refused service by a County or State emergency health service provider or Hospital based on your inability to pay for service. The hospital social worker will provide you with the necessary forms and assist you in completing them to obtain coverage from State and Federal programs designed to cover your hospital and transport expenses.
If you live in the United States and are sick and need to go to the hospital and cannot get there by yourself. Pick up the phone and dial 911. The call taker may ask a lot of questions; answer them as best you can. This information is used to dispatch the appropriate emergency service. SarcasticGreetings answered Saturday March 6 2010, 9:49 am: I'm pretty sure it varies. But it can financially destroy you if you don't have health insurance.
My sister got taken to the hospital by ambulance a couple of months ago. A month later, they sent us a bill that pretty much said, "If you don't have insurance, you owe us $550". Same goes for Emergency Rooms. They help you first and send a monstrous bill later. [ SarcasticGreetings's advice column | Ask SarcasticGreetings A Question ]
ASKDADA answered Friday March 5 2010, 11:48 pm: You will need to contact your local hospital to get the exact cost. They can provide you with the most accurate information. Once they ambulance arrive they will check you,and if they find a need to transport to the hospital they will take you unless you refuse(you CAN do that). You will receive a bill in the mail, separate from the bill from the treament you receive from the "emergency room". You're better off going to a urgent care... Or If its that serious ..just take a cab.. , catch a ride.. At least you'll cut out one expense... [ ASKDADA's advice column | Ask ASKDADA A Question ]
SecretDreamer95 answered Friday March 5 2010, 10:58 pm: It depends on where you are from. Here in New Brunswick Canada it is $130.00. It use to be free but people started to abuse it and they put a price on it. If you have insurance you will get the $130.00 back. They will send you a bill.
If you call they will come and check you out to see if you are serious enough to go with them.. if you are able to go to the hospital without needing the service of the ambulance it's best to do so. but it really depends on where youare living for the price range. DearSusie answered Friday March 5 2010, 10:56 pm: You need to look up medical transport online in your zip code and surrouding areas. Let them know where you live and when you need to be taken. It is a common issue and easily solved by getting your answers in advance.
I do know that when you call the ambulance, they will take you directly to the ER (inside) and you get priority placement, because you came with a medical transition team of EMTs or Paramedics.
I won't kid you, ambulances can cost a pretty penny, so I am thinking a medical transport in a non-emergency situation will be able to accomodate many of your needs.
xlostangelx answered Friday March 5 2010, 10:54 pm: I believe it is anywhere between 600 and 900 dollars generally. When they take you to the hospital, they will send you a bill in the mail. You do not have to pay upfront on the spot. Then, you can make payments on it if you need to. Also, I am not sure if they will stay at your house and help you as opposed to taking you to the hospital. They will, of course, help you with what they can and, if needed, take you to the ER. My advice: If you feel you need to be checked out right now, go. Don't second guess it when it comes to your health.
