Does milk make you gain weight? Does milk make you lose weight?

Question Posted Saturday October 10 2009, 1:06 am

I saw on a commercial a long time ago that having so many glasses of milk a day can really help you lose weight. I assumed that drinking milk helps you lose weight then.

Well, I just read on another site that if you drink too many glasses of milk a day then you gain weight. Now, I'm really confused. One thing is saying that milk makes you lose weight while another one says milk makes you gain weight.

What is true?

Why?

well as an athlete i drink alot of milk to help me add muscle cuz it has great health benefits with lots of protein. but like if u dont want to add muscle/weight then dont go and drink half a gallon a day like i might, and if your rly concerned keep it to only skim milk which will eliminate some of the fat and calories that milk possesses.

my science teacher told me that milk is actually made out of water and fat...so skim milk is water with one percent fat...milk difinitly does make you gain weight if you drink too much of it but its good fro your bones.

Anything with calories in it makes you gain weight if you eat/drink too much.

There have been studies that suggest calcium helps increase metabolism, and milk has calcium in it, which is why people claim that milk helps you lose weight.

Milk can be part of a healthy diet. Just don't drink too much.

I'm not really sure if this is true or not but whole milk is thicker than skim milk, 1 percent milk etc. so I would imagine it could be true. Skim milk is not as thick as whole milk. so I guess it depends on what type of milk you drink and how much of an intake you put in your body.
