Question Posted Tuesday September 29 2009, 10:54 am
My son just turned 12 months and is still not walking. I was hoping he would be for his party, but that has come and gone now. His doctor says this can be normal, but if he isn't walking by 15 months then it is time to worry. He cruises (not a pro at it, but still manages to get around.) and can stand holding on to someone or something, but he just doesn't want to take any steps and absolutely cannot stand alone without holding on. Any ideas on how to get him walking? I'm very concerened, anyone with any advice would be a great help!

The little cow was jealous of the baby. She 58 now. so it happens to some, some are slow off the mark. But I can suggest if you can get him into a swimming pool where the boyency can aid the stepping process. take him for lengthy wanders through a baby pool get him interested in walking. be patient My first son was climbing the book case before he could walk. were all different. Yes some children are very lazy but he should at least be able to stand alone. His legs are at the age where he should be strong enough. Why wait two more months to see if he has an medical issue? I would go for a second opinion immediately. As parents we instinctively know when there is an issue.
So if it is really bothering you I would take your child to see another pediatrician.
I have a question for you. Does he use a walker? And if so can he stand straight up and walk without sitting? Does he use the strength in his legs to walk in the walker? If you see that he is using his legs then possibly it isnt a concern but if he is not able to do that yes take him right away to get another opinion.

If his development is normal in all other areas, he's probably just a late bloomer. You might want to try this: Have someone hold his favorite toy at his level, just a few feet away. Then you stand him up and help him walk over to the person holding the toy. He'll start walking on his own once he realizes it the better way to get where he wants to go.
Please keep us posted. We are all rooting for him.
