my first year of college.

Question Posted Wednesday September 23 2009, 11:49 pm

should i got to a community college for my first year. or should i go to a university? my mom says that its cheaper to go to a community college first and then transfer my credits to a university after i take all the basic courses. but all my older friends that are already in college said that is way more fun to go away to a university and live on campus. im really torn between the two. any advice?? thanks :D

honestly, i've heard it costs your more money in the end to go to a community college. Some colleges won't take certain credits or they count them for something else, so you end up losing that way. Also, it's impressive when people graduate from community college in 2 years. It seems that the majority of students take longer. it's really up to you, i considered it, but of course a college campus is much more fun that comm. college, and at least at a college you're with people that are as smart as you, not just eveyone that wants to attend. if you're strapped for cash, I say go to the community college and work it out. if not, really consider a state college or university. most state schools have reasonable tuition costs.
if you need anything else, lemme know. i'm currently a college student! <3

In this economy? Community college is your best bet. Not to sound too motherish but college is the learning experience not how much fun you will have- which...you will still have as much fun as you make of it. Community colleges and universities all teach the SAME EXACT THING. They have to follow the same cirrculum, with the same standards, and sometimes have the same teachers teaching at both. You can save your money, and still have a good time. Your friends are probably having "fun" OUTSIDE of class, not in it. So join in with them after school. It's your education, money, and future.

I agree with the other columnist. (start at community college for your first 2 years) It's much cheaper and honestly...it's as fun as you make it. The one I go to always has events taking place in the courtyard. You have just as much opportunity to be involved. Plus, when you get your diploma...it doesn't mention that you went to Community. All you see is the University's name on it! =D

Usually community colleges last 2 years before transferring to a university. It would be much easier to go to a community college straight from high school than it would to go to university. It's possible to go to university straight from HS, but it's very hard.

Go to CC first for 2 years & then transfer to a Uni.
